Significant advancements in nanoscale material efficiency optimization have made it feasible to substantially adjust the thermoelectric transport characteristics of *** by the prediction and enhanced understanding of the behavi-or of two-dimensional(2d)bilayers(BL)of zirconium diselenide(ZrSe_(2)),hafnium diselenide(HfSe_(2)),molybdenum diselenide(moSe_(2)),and tungsten diselenide(WSe_(2)),we investigated the thermoelectric transport properties using information generated from experimental measurements to provide inputs to work with the functions of these materials and to determine the critical factor in the trade-off between thermoelectric *** on the Boltzmann transport equation(BTE)and Barden-Shockley deformation potential(dP)theory,we carried out a series of investigative calculations related to the thermoelectric properties and characterization of these *** calculated dimensionless figure of merit(ZT)values of 2dBL-mSe_(2)(m=Zr,Hf,mo,W)at room temperature were 3.007,3.611,1.287,and 1.353,respectively,with convenient electronic *** ad-dition,the power factor is not critical in the trade-off between thermoelectric materials but it can indicate a good thermoelec-tric ***,the overall thermal conductivity and power factor must be considered to determine the preference of thermoelectric materials.

Antispermatogenic activity of morinda lucida extract in male rats

Aim： To investigate the effect of morinda lucida Benth （Rubiaceae） on the reproductive activity of male albino rats. methods： Two groups of rats were treated with 400 mg/（kg.d） of morinda lucida leaf extract for 4 and 13 weeks, respectively. The control rats received the vehicle. All the treated rats had corresponding recovery groups. At the end of each experimental period, animals were killed and organ weights, sperm characteristics, serum testosterone levels, histology of the testes and fertility were assessed. Results： morinda lucida leaf extract did not cause any changes in body and somatic organ weights, but significantly increased the testis weight （P 〈 0.05）. The sperm motility and viability, and the epididymal sperm counts of rats treated for 13 weeks were significantly reduced （P 〈 0.05）. Sperm morphological abnormalities and serum testosterone levels were significantly increased （P 〈 0.05）. There were various degrees of damage to the seminiferous tubules. The extract reduced the fertility of the treated rats by reducing the litter size. Reversal of these changes, however, occurred after a period of time. Conclusion： The extract of morinda lucida has reversible antispermatogenic properties.

Nudix hydrolases are widely distributed across all classes of organisms and provide the potential capacity to hydrolyze a wide range of organic pyrophosphates. Although Nudix hydrolases are involved in plant detoxification processes in response to abiotic and biotic stresses, the biological functions of Nudix hydrolases remain largely unclear in *** the present study, a total of 25 putative grapevine Nudix hydrolases(VvNUdXs) were identified by bioinformatics analysis and classified into eight subfamilies based to their preferred substrates. Both tandem and segmental duplications were responsible for the evolution and expansion of the NUdX gene family in grapevine. To investigate the regulatory roles of VvNUdX genes during growth and development, as well as in response to abiotic and biotic stresses in grapevine, the expression patterns were revealed in publicly available microarray data. The spatial and temporal expression patterns of the VvNUdX genes indicated that they might play important roles in multiple developmental processes. Transcriptome and qRT-PCR analyses showed that ten VvNUdX genes were specifically expressed in grapevine berries, suggesting potential roles in grapevine berry development. Expression and phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that VvNUdX1 and VvNUdX3 might be involved in terpenoid biosynthesis in grapevine. Furthermore,most VvNUdX genes active toward the AdP-ribose/NAdH showed different patterns in response to various abiotic and biotic stresses, such as salinity and drought, as well as different types of biotic treatments, such as Erysiphe necator,Bois Noir phytoplasma and leaf-roll-associated virus-3(GLRaV-3). These results indicated that VvNUdX genes were associated with plant detoxification processes in response to abiotic and biotic stresses, and regulate the disease immunity and resistance pathways. The effective stress method is developed to predict the axial capacity of piles in clay. The effective stress state changes due to the resulting pore pressure change and therefore, the strength and stiffness of the soil will change. In this work, the finite element method is utilized as a tool for the analysis of pile-soil systems in undrained condition. The computer program CRISP was developed to suit the problem requirements. CRISP uses the finite element technique and allows predictions to be made of ground deformation using critical state theories. Eight-node isoparametric element was added to the program in addition to the slip element. A pile loading problem was solved in which the pile-soil system is analyzed in undrained condition. The pile is modelled as elastic-plastic material, while the soil is assumed to follow the modified Cam clay model. during undrained loading condition, the settlement values increase by 22% when slip elements are used. The surface settlement increases by about three times when the load is doubled and the surface settlement at all points increases when using slip elements due to the mode of motion which allows smooth movement of the adjacent soil with respect to the pile. The vertical displacement increases as the distance decreases from the pile and negligible values are obtained beyond 10d (where d is the pile diameter) from the center of the pile and these values are slightly increased when slip elements are used. The vertical effective stress along a section at a distance d from the pile center is approximately the same for all load increments and lower values of effective vertical stress can be obtained when slip elements are used.

Quantitative measurements of tumor response rate in three dimensions (3d) become more re-alistic with the use of advanced technology im-aging during therapy, especially when the tumor morphological changes remain subtle, irregular and difficult to assess by clinical examination. These quantitative measurements depend strongly on the accuracy of the segmentations methods used. Improvements on such methods yield to increase the accuracy of the segmentation process. Recently, the essential modification in the Traditional Region Growing (T-RG) method has been developed and a “modified Region Growing method” (mRGm) has been presented and gives more accurate boundary detection and holes filling after segmentation. In this pa-per, the new automatic calculation of the volu-metric size of brain tumor has been imple-mented based on modified Region Growing method. A comparative study and statistical analysis performed in this work show that the modified method gives more accurate and better performance for 3d volume measurements. The method was tested by 7 fully investigated pa-tients of different tumor type and shape, and better accurate results were reported using mRGm.

BACKGROUNd As the population of the United States ages,there has been an increasing number of elderly patients with cirrhosis listed for *** studies have shown variable results in terms of the relative survival benefit for elderly liver transplant(LT)*** may be factors that are associated with a poor post-transplant outcome which may help determine which elderly patients should and should not be listed for *** To identify factors associated with futility of transplant in elderly *** This was a retrospective study of all patients above the age of 45 who underwent liver transplantation at our tertiary care center between January 2010 and march 2020(n=1019).“Elderly”was defined as all patients aged 65 years and *** outcome was defined as death within 90 d of *** regression analysis was performed to determine what variables,if any were associated with futile outcome in elderly *** outcomes such as one year mortality and discharge to facility(such as skilled nursing facility or long-term acute care hospital)were analyzed in the entire sample,compared across three age groups(45-54,55-64,and 65+years).RESULTS There was a total of 260 elderly patients who received LT in the designated time period.A total of 20 patients met the definition of“futile”*** mean model of End-Stage Liver disease scores in the futile and non-futile group were not significantly different(21.78 in the futile group vs 19.66 in the“non-futile”group).Of the variables tested,only congestive heart failure was found to have a statistically significant association with futile outcome in LT recipients over the age of 65(P=0.001).Of these patients,all had diastolic heart failure with normal ejection fraction and at least grade I diastolic dysfunction as measured on *** aged 65 years and older were more likely to have the outcomes of death within 1 year of LT[hazard ratio:1.937,confidence interval(C

A 39-year-old male was admitted for recurrent ischemic strokes. TEE was performed to detect the potential intra-cardiac thrombi and right-to-left shunts. A large hypermobile, echodense, irregular mass was found in the right atrium, which looked like a cluster of grapes. The motion of the components of the mass was synchronized, prolapsing into right ventricle in an octopus-like fashion during diastole. There was no evidence for PFO or other intra-cardiac shunts by color flow doppler. The patient was referred to surgery and a continuous 30 cm long thrombus spanning from the inferior vena cava to the right ventricle was discovered.

Phragmites australis, Potamogeton pectinatus, Potamogeton perfoliatus and Ceratophyllum demersum were selected to study concentrations of PAHs in lotic ecosystems. Six sampling sites were selected along Al-Hilla River and sampling was conducted in 2010 and 2011. Sixteen PAHs listed as priority pollutants were detected in the samples collected, including Naphthalene (Nap), Acenaphthylene (Acpy), Acenaphthene (Acp), Fluorene (Flu), Phenanthrene (Phen), Anthracene (Ant), Fluoranthene (Flur), Pyrene (Py), Benzo (a) Anthracene (B(a)A), Chrysene (Chry), Benzo (b) Fluoranthene (B(b)F), Benzo (k) Fluoranthene (B(k)F), Benzo (a) Pyrene (B(a)P), dibenzo (a, h) Anthracene (d(b)A), Benzo (ghi) Perylene (B(ghi)P) and Indeno (1,2,3-cd) Pyrene (Ind). The results of the study illustrate that the PAH concentration in macrophytes varies among their species. These variances were as follows: P. australis 0.425 to 299.424 μg/g dry weight (dw) for B(ghi)P and B(b)F, respectively;P. perfoliatus 0.354 to 235.84 μg/g dw for B(b)F and B(ghi)P, respectively;C. demersum 0.996 to 162.942 μg/g dw for Ant and B(ghi)P, respectively;and P. pectinatus 0.383 to 99.87 μg/g dw for Ant and Nap, respectively. The accumulation potential of PAHs was also investigated by calculating the Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) and Bio-sediment Accumulation Factor (BSAF). The ranges of BCF ratios were 0.05 to 5334.5, 0.08 to 1602.5, 0.01 to 536.6, 0.16 to 1882 in P. australis, P. perfoliatus, P. pectinatus and C. demersum, respectively. The range of BSAF ratios were 3.14 to 1041.6 and 1.5 to 2920.8 in P. australis and P. perfoliatus, respectively.
