Attitudes Towards Shoplifting： A Preliminary Cross-cultural Study of Consumers

The aim of this paper is to explore the consumers’ attitudes towards shoplifting from a cross-cultural perspective. The research questions are: 1. What may influence offenders to engage in shoplifting? 2. To which extent consumer attitudes towards shoplifting might reflect cultural issues? The study adopted a quantitative approach to data collection and was conducted in two stages including different retail contexts. Preliminary analysis of 529 questionnaire responses from UK, US, and Libyan consumers finds that attitudes towards shoplifting are broadly similar despite the different cultural and retail contexts therefore this study reinforces the view that ethical behaviour is culturally bound. However, on closer inspection these findings suggest interesting disparities among the countries in relation to specific attitudes towards the consequences of shoplifting, the impact it has on the social networks of the perpetrator and whether the demographics of the shoplifter play a role in the decision to punish the offender. It also suggests that attitudes towards shoplifting are complex and context specific making it particularly problematic for international retailers to implement universal shoplifting preventative measures.

Peri-urban forests are subject to different dynamics due to several factors. Nfifikh forest is a man-made space, located in suburban of Mohammedia City, belonging to Casablanca, Settat Region, and geographically between Casablanca, the economic and business Capital of Morocco and Rabat, the national political capital. Over the past three decades, it has experienced several significant degradations. The aim of this study is to evaluate and quantify the deforestation within the study area using a forest cover change detection of various vegetation indices and subpixel classification to pick out high density plots with Landsat images TM, ETM+ and OLI. Remote sensing is used to highlight the changes caused through Space-Time. This monitoring might help managers to generate forest management plans and to moderate the speed of deforestation and degradation. The results show a significant change in vegetation cover detected between 1987 and 2015. The Density increased in 2001 while it decreased considerably in 2015.

Water is undoubtedly the most vital natural resource. Water use management is one of the greatest challenges that face humanity. The demand for water is continuously growing because of the population growth, the intensive urbanization and the development of industrial and agricultural activities. To face the increasing pressure on this vital resource, it is so necessary to set up the adequate instruments to ensure a rational and efficient management of this resource. In this context, the hydrological modeling is largely used as an instrument to assess the functioning of these resources at watershed scale. In addition, the use of spatial models let to depict and simulate the watershed processes at small spatial and heterogeneous scales that reflect the field reality more accurate and more realistic as possible. However, the use of spatial models requires geospatial data that must be gathered at very fine scales. The aim of this study is to highlight the contribution of geospatial data to assess the hydrologic modeling of watershed by using a spatial hydro-agricultural model, notably the SWAT model (Soil and water Assessment Tool). The study area is the Basin of Low Oum Er Rbiaa River which extends from the Al Massira dam to its outlet in the Atlantic Ocean. This watershed includes a set of dams (Daourat, Imfout and Sidi Maachou) built in waterfall fashion along the river. The objective was to simulate the hydrological functioning of this area that had never been modeled in order to assess the management of these reservoirs used essentially to produce electricity and fresh water. The implementation of the SWAT model required a spatial database that was built from topography, soil, land use and climate data. The calibration and validation of the model was carried out on a daily basis over several years (2001-2010) using The ArcSWAT tool integrated in ArcGIS software and the Parasol optimization method. The temperature influence factor on the kinetics of hydration of hemi hydrated calcium sulphate β has been studied in this work under microwave irradiation between 10℃ and 50℃ by isothermal calorimetry. Results show that the temperature corresponding to a maximum of the maximum rate of hydration or a minimum of tm, the existence of which could be shown theoretically and experimentally during the conventional hydration does not exist under microwave irradiation. This maximum rate or minimum of tm, is replaced by a limit (above 40℃) which has been determined and interpreted.

In the gut, where billions of non-self-antigens from the food and the microbiota are present, the immune response must be tightly regulated to ensure both host protection against pathogenic microorganisms and the absence of immune-related pathologies. It has been well documented that regulatory T cells(Tregs) play a pivotal role in this context. Indeed, Tregs are able to prevent excessive inflammation, which can lead to the rupture of intestinal homeostasis observed in inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs). Both the worldwide incidence and prevalence of such diseases have increased throughout the latter part of the 20^(th) century. Therefore, it is crucial to understand how Tregs suppress the colitogenic immune cells to establish new treatments for patients suffering from IBDs. In this review, we will first summarize the results obtained in animal model studies that highlight the importance of Tregs in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and describe the specific suppressive mechanisms involved. Next, our current knowledge about Tregs contribution to human IBDs will be reviewed, as well as the current therapeutic perspective on using Tregs for clinical IBD treatment and the challenges that remain to be resolved to ensure both the safety and effectiveness of these therapies in targeting this critical immune-regulatory cell population.

The main objective of this paper is to model, analyze and estimate wind energy at East region of Mohammedia and other Moroccan sites. The basic data were taken from meteorological records of each region. In this context, this work is focused on a methodological approach of a decision support system for optimal choice of wind turbine using multi-criteria model that takes into consideration both the accurate Weibull distribution in the area (wind speed-ground roughness) and the technical parameters of the wind turbine. In this approach we realized an adapted modeling of each element of the turbine (rotor-multiplier-generator). This article also offers a way to forecast wind speed in a region where wind data are not accessible using an artificial neural network.

Efficient Choice of a Multilevel Inverter for Integration on a Hybrid Wind-Solar Power Station

DC/AC converters are very important components that have to be chosen efficiently for each type of power station. In this article, we present in details, a comparison between three different architectures of multilevel inverters, the flying capacitor multilevel inverter (FCMLI), the diode clamped multilevel inverter (DCMLI), and the cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (CHMLI). Thus the comparison is focused on the output voltage quality, the complexity of the power circuits, the cost of implementation, and the influence on a power bank inside the renewable power station. We also investigate trough simulation the efficient number of levels and suitable characteristics for the CHMLI that showed the most promising performance. The study uses Matlab Simulink platform as a tool of simulation, and aim to choose the most qualified inverter, for a potential insertion on a hybrid renewable energy platform (wind-solar). In all the simulations we use the same PWM control type (SPWM).

An Optimal Management System of a Wind Energy Supplier

In this paper, we propose a real time approach to optimize the supplied energy of a wind station. This station is used for electric energy storage in battery bank, water pumping, lighting and heating systems. The characterization of the wind generator allows us to estimate the available electrical wind energy of the platform. A data sheet of the required energy for each load (battery charging, wind pumping system, lighting system and heating system) is drawn up. Basing on the issued data sheet we develop and implement a management system for optimal energy distribution. To improve the proposed management system, we introduce a real time data acquisition (DAQ-S) and data processing (DP-S) subsystems. The DAQ-S measures all the required electrical parameters needed by the proposed DP-S to perform an optimal algorithm activating our smart decision system to allow a rational and effective use of the electrical wind power.

The study of water resources at watershed scale is widely adopted as approach to manage, assess and simulate these important natural resources. The development of remote sensing and GIS techniques has allowed the use of spatially and physically based hydrologic models to simulate as simply and realistically as possible the functioning of watershed systems. Indeed, the major constraint that has hindered the expansion use of these tools was the unavailability or scarcity of data especially in the developing countries. In this context, the objective of this study is to model the hydrology in the Bouregreg basin, located at the north-central of Morocco, using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) in order to understand and determine the different watershed hydrological processes. Thus, it aims to simulate the stream flow, establish the water balance and estimate the monthly volume inflow to SMBA dam situated at the basin outlet. The ArcSWAT interface implemented in the ArcGIS software was used to delineate the basin and its sub-components, combine the data layers and edit the model database. The model parameters were analyzed, ranked and adjusted for hydrologic modeling purposes using daily temporal data series. They were calibrated using an auto-calibration method based on a Shuffled Complex Evolution Algorithm from 1989 to 1997 and validated from 1998 to 2005. Based on statistical indicators, the evaluation indicates that SWAT model had a good performance for both calibration and validation periods in Bouregreg Watershed. In fact, the model showed a good correlation between the observed and simulated monthly average river discharge with R2 and Nash coefficient of about 0.8. The water balance components were correctly estimated and the SMBA dam inflow was successfully reproduced with R2 of 0.9. These results revealed that if properly calibrated, SWAT model can be used efficiently in semi-arid regions to support water management policies.
