The photocatalytic degradation of the synthetic textile dye Reactive Yellow 145 (RY 145) in aqueous solution, using TiO2 coated non-woven fibers as photocatalyst, under UV-lamp irradiation, was studied. The effects of the operational parameters such as initial dye concentration, pH, addition of oxidant hydrogen peroxide and addition of ethanol on the reaction rate were investigated. The effect of some inorganic ions such as and , commonly present in real effluents, on the photodegradation of RY 145 was also examined. The experimental results showed that the photocatalytic degradation rate was favoured by a high concentration of solution in respect to Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. The maximum rate of complete decolorization of RY 145 was observed in the acidic medium at pH 3. The presence of and anions led to an increase of the effectiveness of the photocatalytic degradation. However, the presence of and anions decreased differently the photodegradation reaction rate. TiO2/UV process was proved to be capable of the complete degradation of the RY 145.

Modeling experimental design was used to study the main effects and the interaction effects between operational parameters in the photocatalytic degradation of pesticide methomyl. The important parameters which affect the removal efficiency of methomyl such as concentration of Fe(NO3)3, concentration of H2O2, initial concentration of the pesticide and pH. The parameters were coded as x1, x2, x3 and x4, consecutively, and were investigated at two levels (–1 and +1). The effects of individual variables and their interaction effects for dependent variables, namely, photocatalytic degradation efficiency (%) were determined. From the statistical analysis, the most effective parameters in the photocatalytic degradation efficiency were initial concentrations of the methomyl and Fe(NO3)3. The interaction between initial concentration of the pesticide and Fe(NO3)3 was the most influencing interaction. The optimum conditions that were obtained for the photocatalytic degradation of methomyl were: minimum quantity of contaminant: 6 × 10–5 mol.L–1, maximum quantity of Fe(NO3)3: 5 × 10–4 mol.L-1, initial pH of the solution: 3 and maximum quantity H2O2: 10–2 mol.L–1.

This study was conducted to assess the removal efficiency of pesticide (Carbaryl) used in Souss Massa region (Agadir city), on a clay originated from barrage situated in Agadir. The adsorption of Carbaryl from aqueous solution by local clay as a low-cost, natural and eco-friendly adsorbent was investigated. Different physicochemical parameters were analyzed: adsorbent mass, ionic strength (NaNO3), initial concentration of pollutant, temperature, and pH. The empirical results showed that all these parameters have an impact on the retention of pesticide on the clay. The equilibrium uptake was increased with an increase in the initial pesticide concentration in solution. The results of adsorption were fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The Freundlich model represented the adsorption process better than Langmuir model, with correlation coefficients (R2) values ranged from 0.97 to 0.99. This study has shown that the natural clay is a solid that has got an important adsorption capacity, which may be used in treatment and depollution of water.

Mine waste and process tailings storage is one of important challenge for which mining operations are increasingly confronted. Treatment discharges of plants and main part of waste rock development are generally stored on surface areas. The volume and chemical characteristics of these materials generate serious problem for required storage spaces and mainly environmental degradation. Paste backfill(PBF) is one of ingenious solutions to minimize the quantity of tailings to store. PBF is basically defined as a combination of mine processing tailings, binder, and water mixing. The purpose of this paper is to present backfilling components characterization and formula verification for a waste valorization solution through paste backfilling technology in Imiter operation. Obtained results and realized analysis demonstrate PBF conformity and adequacy with assigned underground functions. However the studied recipe can be more ameliorated to obtain an optimal mixture ensuring the required mechanical strength.

Objective:Meningiomas are neoplasms that arise from the meninges of the central nervous system(CNS).They constitute about25.6%of CNS tumors diagnosed in *** morphological variants of meningiomas display aggressive behavior,leading to brain-invasive growth *** meningiomas are usually treated by complete surgical excision,the risk of postoperative recurrence ***,additional biomarkers for predicting aggressive behavior must be *** study aims to explore the clinical and biological relevance of the protein expression levels ofβ-catenin and galectine-3 in meningioma and to understand the pathobiology of this ***:This retrospective study was carried out on 153 cases of meningioma by using tissue microarrays and immunohistochemistry forβ-catenin and ***:Highβ-catenin expression was significantly associated with transitional and meningiotheliomatous meningiomas,low tumor grade,low recurrence rate,and low incidence of brain ***,high galectin-3 expression was associated with brain invasion,recurrence,high tumor grade,and tumor *** regression analysis indicated that among all variables included in the model,β-catenin and galactin-3 expression levels were significant predictors of tumor recurrence(P<0.001).Conclusions:Galectin-3 andβ-catenin are involved in meningioma recurrence but not in brain *** molecules could be important potential therapeutic targets and predictors for meningiomas.

Due to the mass demand for excellent construction materials for infrared and super structures in Jordan, intensive field and laboratory works were carried out to determine the quality of basalt as a source for construction uses or as aggregate materials. Representative basaltic samples were collected from four quarries in Harrat Ash Shaam Basalt (HASB), northeast Jordan (Al-Azraq, Tel-Hassan, Q’a-Khanna and Al-Aritayin). Necessary and accentual quality control tests were carried out on 17 samples of basalt to determine the physical and mechanical properties of target samples, whereas petrographic and chemical analysis for some representative samples have been carried out using a polarizing microscope and X-ray fluorescence (XRF). This study aims to focus on the main engineering characteristics of the basalt rocks and to shed some light on their properties. This work represents the results of petrographic and chemical analysis, tests of abrasion, absorption, specific gravity, unit weight and void ratio, sieve analysis (gradation), soundness, flakiness and elongation indices, pulse velocity and compressive strength. Petrographic studies show that the basalt is characterized by a presence mainly of calcic-plagioclase feldspar, pyroxene-augite and olivine. The composition of the basaltic samples reflects ultrabasic-basic (Basanite-Tholeiitic basalt type). The basalt is characterized by higher specific gravity, lower absorption and medium abrasion loss values, and resistance to corrosion, with medium to high compressive strength. The results of the studied physical and mechanical properties of the basalt that have been tested comply with the standard requirements. In most of the studies, basalt has good physical and mechanical properties that can be used for engineering applications.

AIM:To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of intravenous ketamine-midazolam sedation during pediatric endoscopy in the Arab ***:A retrospective cohort study of all pediatric endoscopic procedures performed between 2002-2008 at the shared endoscopy suite of King Abdullah University Hospital,Jordan University of Science & Technology,Jordan was *** children were > 1 year old and weighed > 10 kg with American Society of Anesthesiologists class 1 or *** was performed in terms of sedation-related complications(desaturation,respiratory distress,apnea,bradycar-dia,cardiac arrest,emergence reactions),adequacy of sedation,need for sedation reversal,or failure to complete the ***:A total of 301 patients(including 160 males) with a mean age of 9.26 years(range,1-18 years) were *** were premedicated with atropine;and 79.4%(239/301) had effective and uneventful *** 248(82.4%) of the 301 patients received a mean dose of 0.16 mg/kg(range,0.07-0.39) midazolam and 1.06 mg/kg(range,0.31-2.67) ketamine,respectively within the recommended dosage *** maximum midazolam dose was exceeded in 17.6% patients [34 female(F):19 male(M),P = 0.003] and ketamine in 2.7%(3 M:5 F).Maximum midazolam dose was more likely to be exceeded than ketamine(P 1 year and weighing > 10 kg without co-morbidities.

Standard genetic algorithms （SGAs） are investigated to optimise discrete-time proportional-integral-derivative （PID） con- troller parameters, by three tuning approaches, for a multivariable glass furnace process with loop interaction. Initially, standard genetic algorithms （SGAs） are used to identify control oriented models of the plant which are subsequently used for controller optimisa- tion. An individual tuning approach without loop interaction is considered first to categorise the genetic operators, cost functions and improve searching boundaries to attain the desired performance criteria. The second tuning approach considers controller parameters optimisation with loop interaction and individual cost functions. While, the third tuning approach utilises a modified cost function which includes the total effect of both controlled variables, glass temperature and excess oxygen. This modified cost function is shown to exhibit improved control robustness and disturbance rejection under loop interaction.

Large electromechanical strain at high temperatures of novel <001> textured BiFeGaO3-BaTiO3 based ceramics

BiFeGaO3-BaTiO3(BFG-BT)based ceramics with a large piezoelectric coefficient are potential high performance lead-free piezoelectric *** this work,textured and random BFG-BT ceramics were realized by the solid state reaction method with and without BaTiO3(BT)*** ceramics were obtained by a reactive templated grain growth(RTGG)method leading to a high-temperature electromechanical strain of S=0.27%at 40 kV/cm and to an effective piezoelectric coefficient(d33*)up to 685 pm/V at 180℃.The easy movement of oriented domains enhanced the electromechanical strain under an applied electric field in textured sample(Lotgering factor f=66.3%).Structural investigations reveal that the proportion and degree of distortion of BFG-BT rhombohedral phase(R3c)reached its maximum in textured ceramics,resulting in large ferrodistortive displacements under electric *** addition,the dense nanodomains with low domain wall energies,inferred from the high-resolution transmission electron microscope(HR-TEM)observations,contribute to the extra displacement of the textured sample under an applied electric *** textured ceramics,the remnant polarization was stable(about 17μC/cm2)from room temperature to 180℃,contributing to the stable ferroelectric property at high *** the introduction of BT templates,high-density nanodomains were formed and the Burns temperature was enhanced in textured *** electromechanical strain,polarization and dielectric behavior were correlated to the textured or random forms of the BFG-BT based ceramics.

Crop coefficients (Kc) of sugar beet were determined for accurate calculation of water requirements (CWR) and better irrigation water management. Three irrigation treatments were used during two seasons to measure actual crop water use (ETc) under no soil stress treatment using gravimetric sampling. In the second season (SS), the method was modified to target 8 temporal points during crop growth for smooth calculation of ETc under sufficient moisture supply to avoid the distortion that was created by the continuous gravimetric sampling after, before and during each irrigation cycle on the experimental plots. Water was stopped when each targeted sampling point was reached using large plots where intensive sampling continues until the crop reaches severe water stress or permanent wilting point (PWP). The actual crop water use was extracted from the soil moisture depletion curve which allowed the identification of two clear segments. The first segment indicated crop water use during no water stress while the change of the slope indicated the beginning of the water stress. The reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) was determined on daily basis using appropriate weather data that coincides with the ETc measurement and consequently the crop Kc were calculated. The results showed that the method used during the SS is easy and provides a better understanding of actual crop water use and better estimation of crop Kc. The calculated 10-day Kc values for sugar beet under heavy cracking clay soil conditions were: 0.46, 0.49, 0.53 and 0.60; for the initial stage: 0.69, 0.78, 0.88 and 0.97; for the development stage: 1.05, 1.11, 1.13, 1.11 and 1.04; for mid-season stage and for late season stage: 0.92, 0.74 and 0.60. Yield and other sugar related parameters were also presented for the two seasons.
