Polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity of some wild Saudi Arabian asteraceae plants

Objective:To study the antioxidant properties of crude extract of different Asteraceae ***:The antioxidant properties of six extracts were evaluated using different antioxidant tests,including free radical scavenging,reducing power,metal chelation,superoxide anion radical scavenging,total antioxidant capacity and inhibition of lipid peroxidation ***:Picris cyanocarpa(***)and Anthemis deserti(***)had powerful antioxidant properties as radical scavenger,reducing agent and superoxide anion radical scavenger while Achillia fragrantissima(***)and Artemissia monosperma(***)were the most efficient as ion chelator(100%at 100,200 and 400μg/mL)*** and Rhanlarium appoposum(***.)showed 100%inhibition on peroxidation of linoleic acid emulsion at 200 and 400μg/mL,while butylatedhydroxy toluene and ascorinc acid showed 100and 95%inhibition percentage at 400μg/mL,*** various antioxidant activities were compared to standard antioxidants such as butylated hydroxyl toluene and ascorbic ***:In most tests *** and *** had powerful antioxidant properties as radical scavenger,reducing agent and superoxide anion radical scavenger.

Investigation of the volatile oils,lipid constituents and biological activity of Ballota andreuzziana,Teucrium zanonii and Verbena tenuisecta in Libya

Objective:To determine the chemical composition of essential oils and lipid constituents of Ballola andreuzziana(***),Teucrium zanonii(***) and Verbena tenuisecta(V. tenuisecta) growing in Libya,and to test the antibacterial activity of different extracts of Teucrium ***:The volatile oils of all plants were extracted by hydrodistillation method and analyzed by GC/MS *** lipid constituents of plants were obtained by extraction with petroleum ether and fractionated into fatty alcohols,fatty acids and unsapoinfiable matters. Antibacterial activity of *** extracts and antioxidant activity of different extracts of T. zanonii were also ***:The volate oil of *** was found to consists of 20 compounds in which caryophyllin is the main one(63.1%),the volatile oil of *** consists of 74 compounds in which germacrene-D was the main compound,while the volatile oil of V. tenuisecta consists of 13 compounds with l-octen-3- ol as a major constituent(52.87%).The study of antimicrobial activity of different extracts of *** showed that,both methanol and butanol extracts exhibited the highest activity against Mycobacterium phlei(***) and Candida albicans(***) respectively,while petroleum ether,fatty alcohols and unsaponifiable fractions had no antimicrobial activity against all the tested microorganisms. Investigation of the antioxidant activity of different extracts of *** using DPPH method proved that,the ethyl acetate and butanol fractions showed the highest activity where the inhibition percentage(1%) are 93.6 and 92.1 ***:This is the first report about the volatile oils of these plants where *** have the highest content and the highest number of the identified *** study of antioxidant *** extracts proved that,the ethyl acetate,butanol and aqueous extracts have the highest antioxidant *** and butanol extracts of *** exhibi

Phytochemical and biological activities of Crataegus sinaica growing in Egypt

Objective:To evaluate the cardiac activity and hepatoprotection of Crataegus sinaica (***).Methods:All the isolated compounds were isolated by open-column liquid chromatography(CC) using sephadex LH-20 as stationary *** of the column was performed with EtOH or *** phytochemical investigation of the young stem of *** for the first time together with the leaves and flowers lead to the isolation and identification of quercetin,hyperoside,vitexin-2"-0-rhamnoside,epicatechin,procyanidin B2 and procyanidins ***:Rats treated with the low and high dose of *** leaves with flowers extract showed 15%and 17%reduction in the heart rate,and reduction in the STsegment by 107%and 57%;*** T-amplitude was decreased by 59%of the high dose *** the other hand,the young steins and leaves with flowers extracts of *** on primary culture of rat hepatocytes monolayer indicated a hepatoprotection for the total extract,ethyl acetate,butanol,and chlor of orm fractions at 100μg/mL,75μg/mL,50μg/mL,and 25μg/mL; ***:The results of these chemical and biological studies suggest the use of *** growing in Egypt as a preventive drug against cardiovascular and hepatic diseases. The chemical studies suggest the use of woody young stems as a newly investigated bioactive *** extraction of unsaturated fatty acids from the seeds of the plant would serve as a good health and nutritive product.

Antioxidant activity of proanthocyanidins from adansonia digitata fruit

Besides（-）-epicatechin,epicatechin-（4β-8 ）-epicatechin（procyanidin B2）,epicatechin-（4β-6 ）-epicatechin （procyanidin B5）,epicatechin-（4β-8,2β-O-7）-epicatechin（proanthocyanidin A2） and epicatechin- （4β-8）-epicatechin-（4β-8）-epicatechin（procyanidin C1）,which were isolated before from Adansonia digitata, in this work an A-type proanthocyanidin trimer,***-（4β-8）-epicatechin-（4β-8,2β-0-7）- epicatechin,tetrameric procyanidin D1,***-（4β-8）-epicatechin-（4β-8）-epicatechin-（4β-8）- epicatechin and a polymeric compound were isolated from the pericarp（fruit wall） of the fruits for the first time from this *** antioxidant activity of different fractions and pure compounds was experimentally evaluated in the DPPH- *** ethyl acetate fraction,and most of the isolated compounds displayed a high activity(IC50 2.40-9.60μg/ml) compared with the reference antioxidant Trolox(IC50 12.18μg/ml) as a standard.
