The inhibition effects of sodium vanadate along with inorganic coolantinhibitors were examined on corrosion of AZ91d in ASTM d1384-80 corrosive water by polarizationmeasurements. The galvanic corrosion of AZ91d coupled to 3003, 6063, and 356 Al alloys were alsotested. An effective combination of inhibitors containing (but not limited to) sodium vanadate,silicate, and nitrate was proposed for inhibition of AZ91d and prevention of galvanic corrosion.

Bulldog with unilateral cryptorchidism was admitted to our clinic suffering from a persistent erection for 2 d. The animal was left for the first time for breeding without observation. Penis was hyperaemic, oedematous with area of mucous membrane necrosis and swollen bulbus glandis. doppler ultrasound was optimized to allow adequate recognition of blood flow sensitive for slow flow on the head, shaft of the penis and bulbus glandis. Penis showed unsymmetrical blood flow that started in the left side of the bulbus glandis, and continue to the shaft until the gland penis;whereas, the other half of the penis showed no blood flow. Using doppler ultrasonography was useful for diagnosis of the blood flow pattern that was beneficial to give the appropriate treatment.

Quasi-isotropic laminates have isotropic elastic properties in all in-plane directions. Therefore, this kind of laminate is widely used for structural elements. The simplest stacking sequence of quasi-isotropic laminates is [0/-60/60]s. When the direction of applied axial load to [0/-60/60]S laminate is inclined at a 30-degree angle, we have the other quasi-isotropic laminate [30/-30/90]s under axial load. The failure mechanisms of these two laminates are, however, entirely different from each other because these two laminates have different distribution of the interlaminar stresses. it was confirmed by tensile fatigue tests that the [0/-60/60]s laminate does not show any visible fatigue damage, but the [30/-30/90]s laminate develops edge-delamination during cyclic loading. The analytical results were in good agreement with the experimental results.

An eco-friendly chemical reduction method was successfully used for the preparation of chitosan （CTS） composite films loaded with silver nanoparticles （AgNPs） by self assembly method using poly（ethylene glycol） as both reducing and stabilizing agent. UV-Vis spectra of the prepared chitosan loaded silver nanoparticles （CTSLAg） films reveal that full reduction of silver ions to silver nanoparticles takes place at 90 ℃. The effect of reaction conditions on the silver nanoparticles formation was investigated using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The morphology of the films was tested by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The dSC curves showed that the CTSLAg film had a favorable compatibility and heat stability. AgNPs were confirmed by XRd and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The TEM findings revealed that the silver nanoparticles synthesized were spherical in shape with uniform dispersal, and by increasing CTS：PEG ratio larger silver nanoparticles could be obtained. The results of antibacterial study reveal that the prepared nanoeomposite films exhibited potential inhibition.

in this paper, response surface methodology(RSM) based on central composite design(CCd) is applied to obtain an optimization design for the fuel rod's diameter and distance cooled by turbulent Al_2O_3–water nanofluid for a typical pressurized water reactor(PWR). Fuel rods and nanofluid flow between them are simulated 3d using computational fluid dynamics(CFd) by ANSYS-FLUNET package software. The RNG k–ε model is used to simulate turbulent nanofluid flow between the rods. The effect of different nanoparticles concentration is also investigated on the Nusselt number from heat transfer efficiency view point. Results reveal that when distance parameter(a) is in the minimum level and diameter parameter(r) is in the maximum possible level, cooling the rods will be better due to higher Nusselt number in this situation. Also, using the different nanoparticles on the cooling process confirms that Al_2O_3 averagely 17% and TiO_2 10% improve the Nusselt numbers.

Cyclic patterns of incidence rate for skin malignant melanoma:association with heliogeophysical activity

Background： Our previous studies revealed cyclicity in the incidence rate of skin malignant melanoma （SMM; iCd9, dx： 172） in the Czech Republic （period T=7.50～7.63 years）, UK （T= 11.00 years） and Bulgaria （T= 12.20 years）. incidences com- pared with the sunspot index Rz （lag-period dT=＋2, ＋4, ＋6, ＋ 10 or ＋ 12 years） have indicated that maximal rates are most likely to appear on descending slopes of the ;ll-year solar cycle, i.e., out of phase. We summarized and explored more deeply these cyclic variations and discussed their possible associations with heliogeophysical activity （HGA） components exhibiting similar cyclicity. Methods： Annual incidences of SMM from 5 countries （Czech Republic, UK, Bulgaria, USA and Canada） over various time spans during the years 1964-1992 were analyzed and their correlations with cyclic Rz （sunspot number） and aa （planetary geomagnetic activity） indices were summarized. Periodogram regression analysis with trigonometric approximation and phase-correlation analysis were applied. Results： Previous findings on SMM for the Czech Republic, UK and Bulgaria have been validated, and cyclic patterns have been revealed for USA （T=8.63 years, P〈0.05） and Canada （Ontario, T=9.91 years, P〈0.10）. Also, various ＇hypercycles＇ were established （T=45.5, 42.0, 48.25, 34.5 and 26.5 years, respectively） describing long-term cyclic incidence patterns. The association of SMM for USA and Canada with Rz （dT=＋6 and ＋7 years, respectively） and aa （dT=-10 and ＋9 years, respectively） was described. Possible interactions of cyclic non-photic influences （UV irradiation, Schumann resonance signal, low-frequency geomagnetic fluctuations） with brain waves absorbance, neuronal calcium dynamics, neuro-endocrine axis modulation, melatonin/serotonin disbalance and skin neuro-immunity impairment as likely causal pathways in melanoma appearance, were also discussed. Conclusion： The above findings on cyclicity and temporal association of SMM with cyclic environmental factors

The largest urban areas of Mexico cities have witnessed high levels of air pollution in the past few decades. The most important air pollutants are ozone and paniculate matter with levels that are still far above current air quality standard. in this work we studied exhaust and evaporative emissions of Mexico City metropolitan area （MAMC） vehicles using fuels in which sulfur content was varied from 89×10^-6 to 817×10^-6, and calculated the ozone forming potential of emissions as well as the specific reactivity of the exhaust for each average fleet-fuel combinations. data on emission levels were compared to those obtained in 2000 for the same vintage of vehicles. The almost twofold increase in emissions found could be due to degradation of the exhaust emissions control systems.

The heat transfer phenomena and driving forces of slag bath flow in ESR process were analyzed, and the mathematical models in ESR system were reviewed and evaluated. The electromagnetic force is the main driving force for the flow formation in the ESR slag pool, and the temperature difference in the pool creates a convective flow in the system. The shape of the electrode tip has an effect on electromagnetic field distribution in slag pool, thus affects the flow pattern. Finally an improved mathematical model of slag pool flow was proposed.

Adsorptive removal of iron and manganese ions from aqueous solutions with microporous chitosan/polyethylene glycol blend membrane

Microporous chitosan （CS） membranes were directly prepared by extraction of poly（ethylene glycol）（PEG） from CS/PEG blend membrane and were examined for iron and manganese ions removal from aqueous solutions. The different variables affecting the adsorption capacity of the membranes such as contact time, pH of the sorption medium, and initial metal ion concentration in the feed solution were investigated on a batch adsorption basis. The affinity of CS/PEG blend membrane to adsorb Fe（ii） ions is higher than that of Mn（ii） ions, with adsorption equilibrium achieved after 60 min for Fe（ii） and Mn（ii） ions. By increasing CS]PEG ratio in the blend membrane the adsorption capacity of metal ions increased. Among all parameters, pH has the most significant effect on the adsorption capacity, particularly in the range of 2.9-5.9. The increase in CS/PEG ratio was found to enhance the adsorption capacity of the membranes. The effects of initial concentration of metal ions on the extent of metal ions removal were investigated in detail. The experimental data were better fitted to Freundlich equation than Langmuir. in addition, it was found that the iron and manganese ions adsorbed on the membranes can be effectively desorbed in 0.1 mol/L HCl solution （up to 98% desorption efficiency） and the blend membranes can be reused almost without loss of the adsorption capacity for iron and manganese ions.
