Two dimensional nanomaterials, specifically graphene, can play a significant role in various photonic and electronic devices. This is especially true in handling the enormous heat in high density electronics and in nonlinear optics when using high power lasers. To model these systems it is important to know the thermal-optical properties of graphene. In this paper, we report on the thermal and optical linear and nonlinear properties of graphene materials using Z-scan system. In particular, we explore the thermo-optical properties of graphene, with and without gold nanorods （AuNRs）. The obtained results illustrate that the addition of gold nanorods causes a significant change in thermal nonlinear refractive index coefficients of graphene, due to the plasmonic enhancements.

Larger wireless access networks are required to meet the growing demand for mobile traffic and multimedia services. The use of RoF (Radio over Fiber) technology in combination with millimeter waves is a potential response to the requirements of broadband applications and high capacity networks. In this paper, we proposed a RoF architecture able to provide very high-speed wireless access points up to Gbps considering an indoor and outdoor environment conform to IEEE 802.11ad and IEEE 802.15.3c standard. Optical transmission and radio coverage have been studied by considering the uplink and downlink. System performance has been evaluated in the relation to the Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) for various modulation formats (BPSK, QPSK and 16QAM). Results showed that millimeter wave signals are successfully delivered over a 50 km fiber link and a wireless channel up to 32 m. Data throughput up to 5.28 Gbps has been reached. The proposed architecture can extend the range of applications for wireless communications in association with the unlicensed 60 GHz band with the advantages of better capacity, a wider coverage area and a reduction in the investment cost.

As low cost and highly portable sensors, inertial measurements units (IMU) have become increas-ingly used in gait analysis, embodying an efficient alternative to motion capture systems. Mean-while, being able to compute reliably accurate spatial gait parameters using few sensors remains a relatively complex problematic. Providing a clinical oriented solution, our study presents a gy-rometer and accelerometer based algorithm for stride length estimation. Compared to most of the numerous existing works where only an averaged stride length is computed from several IMU, or where the use of the magnetometer is incompatible with everyday use, our challenge here has been to extract each individual stride length in an easy-to-use algorithm requiring only one inertial sensor attached to the subject shank. Our results were validated on healthy subjects and patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease (PD). Estimated stride lengths were compared to GAITRite? walkway system data: the mean error over all the strides was less than 6% for healthy group and 10.3% for PD group. This method provides a reliable portable solution for monitoring the in-stantaneous stride length and opens the way to promising applications.

Kaposi's sarcoma(KS) of the gastrointestinal tract is not an uncommon disease among individuals with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS). The majority is asymptomatic, and for this reason, gastrointestinal KS(GI-KS) remains undiagnosed. With continued tumor growth, considerable variation in clinical presentation occurs including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, iron deficiency anemia(either chronic or frank gastrointestinal bleeding), and rarely mechanical obstruction alone or combined with bowel perforation. Endoscopy with biopsy allows for histological and immunohistochemical testing to confirm the diagnosis of GI-KS among those with clinical symptoms. In previous studies, dual treatment with highly active antiretroviral therapy and systemic chemotherapy have been associated with improved morbidity and mortality in individuals with visceral KS. Therefore, investigators have suggested performing screening endoscopies in select patients for early detection and treatment to improve outcome. In this review, we describe a 44 years old man with AIDS and cutaneous KS who presented for evaluation of postprandial abdominal pain, vomiting, and weight loss. On upper endoscopy, an extensive, infiltrative,circumferential, reddish mass involving the entire body and antrum of the stomach was seen. Histologic examination later revealed spindle cell proliferation, and confirmatory immunohistochemical testing revealed human herpes virus 8 latent nuclear antigen expression consistent with a diagnosis of gastric KS. Following this, we present a comprehensive review of literature on KS with emphasis on gastrointestinal tract involvement and management.

Fetal Cerebellar Vermis Assessment by MRI. What Does It Add?

Background: Posterior fossa anomalies (PFAs) are considered one of the commonest brain anomalies identified by the fetal imaging techniques. The current study aims to estimate the significance of cerebellar vermis assessment by fetal MRI in fetal brain malformations. Patients and Methods: The study was conducted at a tertiary University hospital in Upper Egypt. Data were gathered prospectively from sixty pregnant women with sonographically diagnosed fetal brain malformations referred for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) between April 2015 and May 2019 followed by postpartum neonatal MRI brain examination for non-terminated and live birth cases. Results: Of the sixty fetuses with brain malformations, additional cerebellar vermis findings were seen on MRI in 10 cases (16.6%). Fetal MRI sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 100% that were in correlation with those of prenatal ultrasound turned out to be significantly higher. Conclusion: This study recommends fetal MRI for cerebellar vermis assessment in fetal brain malformations to guide the clinical management.

Hepatic artery thrombosis(HAT) is the most serious vascular complication after liver transplantation. Multiple risk factors have been identified to impact its development. Changes in haemostasis associated with end stage liver disease and the disturbance of the coagulation and anticoagulation cascades play an important role in development of this lethal complication. Early recognition and therapeutic intervention is mandatory to avoid its consequences. Pharmacological prophylaxis, by the use of antiplatelet or anticoagulant agents, is an important tool to reduce its incidence and prevent graft loss. Only a few studies have shown a clear benefit of antiplatelet agents in reducing HAT occurrence, however, these studies are limited by being retrospective and by inhomogeneous populations. The use of anticoagulants such as heparin is associated with an improvement in the outcomes mainly when used for a high-risk patients like living related liver recipients. The major concern when using these agents is the tendency to increase bleeding complications in a setting of already unstable haemostasis. Hence, monitoring of their administration and careful selection of patients to be treated are of great importance. Well-designed clinical studies are still needed to further explore their effects and to formulate proper protocols that can be implemented safely.

Antimicrobial activity of Rosmarinus eriocalyx essential oil and polyphenols:An endemic medicinal plant from Algeria

Objective:To evaluate the antimicrobial potency of Rosmarinus eriocalyx(***)essential oil and total polyphenols against pathogenic ***:Antimicrobial activity of *** extracts was assessed by disc diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concentrations *** oil obtained from endemic rosemary by hydrodistillation was analysed by gas chromatograph/retention index and gas chromatograph-mass ***:An interesting antimicrobial activity was shown by *** ***,constituted mainly by flavonoids,were the most effective extract with very low minimum inhibitory concentrations values,ranged between 0.06 and 8.00 mg/mL,while essential oil was less *** should be noted that antimicrobial activities of both *** extracts were more directed against fungi and Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative ones,in which Staphylococcus aureus,Enterococcus faecalis,and Candida albicans were the most sensitive *** chemical composition of *** essential oil,camphor(37.8%),1,8-cineole(17.4%),camphene(13.3%),and α-pinene(10.9%)were the major ***:The findings of the present study indicate that *** extracts possess significant bactericidal and fungicidal *** of its richness in essential oil,and especially flavonoids,*** may be a source for effective and safe antimicrobial agents.

Porous Cu-doped SnO2 thin films were synthesized by the sol-gel dip-coating method for enhancing methanol sensing performance. The effect of Cu doping concentration on the SnO2 sensibility was investigated. XRD data confirm that the fabricated SnO2 films are polycrystalline with tetragonal rutile crystal structure. AFM and SEM micrographs confirmed the roughness and the porosity of SnO2 surface, respectively. UV-Vis spectrum shows that SnO2 thin films exhibit high transmittance in the visible region ~95%. The band gap (3.80 - 3.92 eV) and the optical thickness (893 - 131 nm) of prepared films were calculated from transmittance data. The sensing results demonstrate that SnO2 films have a high sensitivity and a fast response to methanol. In particular, 3% Cu-SnO2 films have a higher sensitivity (98%), faster response (10-2 s) and shorter recovery time (18 s) than other films.
