Services and Applications Based on Mobile User’s Location Detection and Prediction

Many wireless applications are deployed and available to customers via their mobile phones. Variety of these applications and services are based on determination of the current or future location of mobile user. Location based services (LBS) are one of the vital applications which are subdivided into two main categories: economical category and public category. Economic applications include mobile marketing, entertainment and tracking applications. Whereas, emergency cases, safety, traffic management, Muslims’ applications and public information applications are sort of public applications. The first part of the paper presents a new proposed system with developed procedure to recreate public and economic applications with high positioning accuracy and good authentication of users’ data. The developed system is created to enhance both location based services and network allocation resources within mobile network platform using either normal or GPS supported mobile equipment. The second part of the paper introduces future location prediction of mobile user dependent applications. New algorithm is developed depending on utilizing both intra-cell Movement Pattern algorithm (ICMP) [1] and hybrid uplink time Difference of Arrival and Assisted GPS technique (UTDOA_AGPS) [2]. It has been noticed that ICMP algorithm outperforms other future location prediction algorithms with high precision and within suitable time (less than 220) msec. However, UTDOA_AGPS guarantees high precession of mobile user independent of the surrounding environment. The proposed technique is used to enhance reliability and efficiency of location based services using cellular network platform.

Hybrid Uplink-Time Difference of Arrival and Assisted-GPS Positioning Technique

A hybrid positioning system is merely one in which multiple systems are used for positioning purposes. This virtually always, though not necessarily, includes Global Positioning System (GPS) as it is the only global positioning network currently. Combination of mobile network and GPS positioning techniques provide a higher accuracy of mobile location than positions based on a standalone GPS or mobile network based positions. High accuracy of mobile position is mainly essential for emergency, military and many other location based services such as productivity enhancement, entertainment, position-based advertising, navigation, asset management and geographic information access. Assisted GPS, also known as A-GPS or AGPS, enhances the performance of the standard GPS in devices connected to the cellular network. This paper introduces a new hybrid technique for mobile location determination utilizing Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) network, Mobile Station (MS) and GPS positioning characteristics. Different positioning techniques are chosen according to positioning parameters. The minimum required number of UMTS base stations, location measurement units and GPS satellites are calculated in this paper. The required number of GPS satellites is reduced from four satellites to three ones while using three dimension positioning and from three satellites to two ones at two dimension positioning. Moreover, MS receiver main functions including both network and GPS received paths to achieve output assisted data are discussed. In this paper many drawbacks such as indoor positioning, receiver high power consumption, delay in first time to fix position, low position accuracy as well as large number of required satellites and base stations are improved.

Reactivity Investigation on Iron-Titanium Oxides for a Moving Bed Chemical Looping Combustion Implementation

Ilmenite-type natural ore which is constituted mainly of iron-titanium oxide is an interesting candidate as an oxygen carrier in chemical looping combustion (CLC) process. Its reactivity was investigated using methane as reducing gas and air as oxidizing gas. Experiments were carried out in a coupled thermogravimetric–thermo differential analyzer (TGA-DTA). When temperature increases from 700℃ to 1000℃, the reaction rate increases by 50 times while the oxygen transfer capacity passes from 1.8% to 12%. TG-DT analyses showed that the overall mass loss due to ilmenite reduction reached at most 12%. It corresponds to 87% of theoretical mass loss due to the transformation of Fe2TiO5 into Fe and TiO2. It is established that the reduction for the iron-titanium oxides occurs in two steps: Fe2TiO5→ FeTiO3→ Fe + TiO2. The titanium reduction from the state TiO2 to the stage Ti3O5 was observed as well. This behavior is supported by XRD analysis. Subsequent oxidation of the reduced mineral led to recover the starting oxide. The stability of iron-titanium oxides was established over 35 looping cycles of oxidation-reduction, with an increase of 5% of oxygen transfer capacity and reactivity in the first 5 cycles and after that, ilmenite reactivity remained constant. At high temperatures, catalytic effect of ilmenite on methane decomposition leading to carbon deposition is observed. The deposited carbon participates in the reactivity of the oxide.

Objective: Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) is a life threatening complication after pneumonectomy. Extra thoracic skeletal muscle transposition especially latissimus dorsi muscle flap (LDMF) had been used to prevent this complication. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of LDMF in preventing BPF developing after extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) and external radiation therapy in malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). Methods: Between May 1999 and Dec. 2008, 37 patients with MPM were operated upon by EPP using LDMF prophylactically to reinforce the bronchial stump, and then received external radiation therapy with or without postoperative chemotherapy. Results: The mean age of all patients was 46.7 (range 26-57) years. Twenty five patients were males and 12 patients were females. Twenty three patients had MPM of the right side and 14 patients had MPM of the left side. The peri-operative mortality was 2.7% and only few flap related postoperative morbidity were reported in the form of minor seroma and subcutaneous surgical emphysema. The median follow up was 17 (range 9-43) months. All cases completed their postoperative external radiation therapy with no reported cases of early or late BPF. Conclusion: Intrathoracic pedicled LDMF transposition is proved to be effective in prevention of BPF developing after EPP and external radiation therapy in MPM and it is advised to be a routine step in EPP in these cases and to use more sophisticated technique of postoperative external beam radiotherapy (3D conformal or IMRT) to minimize this complication.

Aetiology and risk factors of ischaemic cholangiopathy after liver transplantation

Liver transplantation(LT)is the best treatment for endstage hepatic failure,with an excellent survival rates over the last *** complications after LT pose a major challenge especially with the increasing number of procured organs after circulatory *** cholangiopathy(IC)is a set of disorders characterized by multiple diffuse strictures affecting the graft biliary system in the absence of hepatic artery thrombosis or *** commonly presents with cholestasis and cholangitis resulting in higher readmission rates,longer length of stay,repeated therapeutic interventions,and eventually re-transplantation with consequent effects on the patient’s quality of life and increased health care *** pathogenesis of IC is unclear and exhibits a higher prevalence with prolonged ischaemia time,donation after circulatory death(DCD),rejection,and cytomegalovirus *** majority of IC occurs within 12 mo after *** warm ischaemic times predispose to a profound injury with a subsequently higher prevalence of *** complications and IC rates are between 16%and 29%in DCD grafts com-pared to between 3%and 17%in donation after brain death(DBD)*** majority of ischaemic biliary lesions occur within 30 d in DCD compared to 90 d in DBD grafts following ***,there are many other risk factors for IC that should be *** benefits of DCD in expanding the donor pool are hindered by the higher incidence of IC with increased rates of *** donor selection and procurement might help to optimize the utilization of DCD grafts.

Stainless-Steel Thin Film as Passive Radiative Cooling Materials

Spectrally selective glazing system attracts great attention for energy efficient radiator applications. The present work reports the possibility of a specific shield (Stainless steel/Borosilicate glass) to provide passive cooling for the purpose of reducing the use of classical active method. Radiative cooling devices require a convective shield that blocks all incoming solar radiation, but should selectively reemit radiation in the “atmospheric-window” region. In this study, borosilicate glass substrate coated with a stainless steel thin film was prepared by thermal evaporation and low pressure (6.3 × 10-3 bar) DC plasma sputtering, in order to achieve the radiative cooling effect. The optical properties of the optimal thickness thin film were measured in the wavelength range of 0.3-20 μm by an OL-750 double-beam spectroradiometer. The thin film has high visible band reflectance with high infrared band emissivity across the full 8-13 μm;which indicates that stainless steel thin film can be used as good radiative cooling material.

Hydrological Modelling of Sidi Jabeur Watershed (Morocco) Using Spatially Distributed Model ATHYS

The objective of this study is to model the hydrology in the Sidi Jabeur basin, located in Bouregreg watershed at the north-central of Morocco, using the spatially distributed model (ATHYS) in order to understand and determine the different watershed hydrological processes. The study requires the collection of a series of data as inputs models namely rainfall data, water quantity, soil occupation, digital terrain model and requires also a calibration in order to evaluate the model in validation phase. The simulation results are obtained from the validation phase aim to replicate the operation of Sidi Jabeur watershed, and present a suitable adjustment perspective of the observed hydrograph. These results show that the objective is achieved and a model distributed like ATHYS plays an effective role in improving the efficiency and presents a high advantage in anticipation of runoff volume.

Pellet Embolization after Subclavian Artery Injury:A Case Report

Acute upper limb ischemia caused by a gunshot penetrating vascular injury and subsequent arterial embolization by foreign body is uncommon in everyday practice and is associated with high morbidity/mortality rates, especially with emergency surgery. We present the case of a 72-year old male who attempted suicide using a gun. A gunshot entry wound was evident in the right upper chest region with no pellet exit wound. Radial pulses were palpable bilaterally. Angiography revealed right subclavian artery direct injury and pellet embolization to the brachial artery. The patient underwent open surgery, with reversed saphenous vein interposition graft to replace subclavian artery defect. A pellet was removed by a separate arteriotomy in the brachial artery. Associated injuries were clavicle-comminuted fracture and subclavian vein injury. The patient remained well 5 months later with no reported complications. In conclusions, the presence of radial pulses alone on clinical exam cannot rule out the presence of a significant vascular injury.

Diagnosis of Fucosidosis through Cutaneous Manifestations

Angiokeratoma corporis diffusum is a dermatological hallmark of several inherited lysosomal storage disorders including Anderson-Fabry disease and other enzyme deficiencies such as fucosidosis. We report a 4-year-old boy with neurodevelopment delay who was diagnosed as having fucosidosis following recognition of dermatological signs, angiokeratoma and telangiectasies. The diagnosis was confirmed by leukocyte oligosaccharide enzyme analysis.

Elaboration and Magnetic Properties of Cobalt-Palladium Magnetic Nanowires Encapsulated in Carbon Nanotubes

Bimetallic one-dimensional (1-D) cobalt-palladium magnetic nanowires encapsuled by carbon nanotubes were synthesized on silicon substrate using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique. After the deposition of the catalyst, the growth of nanotubes takes place in two stages. The first is a thermal pretreatment to transform continuous nanometer bimetallic thick film into isolated and uniformly distributed nanoparticles over the entire surface of the substrate. The second step results in the growth of nanotubes perpendicular to the substrate by the addition of carbon atoms on the insulated metal nanoparticles. While growing the nanotubes at given thermochemical conditions, a Co-Pd eutectic is thought to diffuse inside the cavity of the nanotube along a length of few hundreds of nanometers as determined by high resolution, spatially resolved Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS), and energy filtered elemental mapping. The magnetic anisotropy along the nanotube directions is observed. Ferromagnetic or superparamagnetic-like behavior of the filled nanotubes was measured through local magneto-optical Kerr effect or global superconducting quantum interference device measurements, respectively. Information on the magnetism of filled nanotubes at different scales is pointed out and discussed.
