The Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most widespread chronic, insidious neurodegenerative disease causing dementia in elderly and leading to a massive burden on AD individuals, their families, and on social and health care systems. Its diagnosis is subjective, definite AD can only be diagnosed after pathological brain specimens are examined by either biopsy or autopsy, and it covers 50%-70% of all dementia cases. It is estimated that, by 2050, the number of people aged 80 years or older will approach 370 million worldwide and that 50 percent of those aged 85 years or older will be afflicted with AD. Causes of the disease are multifactorial;where genetics and environmental risk factors work in harmony to cause the disease. Neuropathological features of AD depend on finding of extracellular deposits of β-amyloid peptides (Aβ) that lead to senile plaque formation and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphory lated tau. However, increasing evidence has suggested that inflammation may play a critical role in AD pathogenesis as well. In the era of genome and sophisticated technology, AD early diagnosis still indecisive and valid biomarkers for AD to be used in routine clinical practice have met with dissatisfaction. Indeed, the relatively unchanged levels of plasma β-amyloid in AD, and a lack of analytical sensitivity for assays for the axonal damage marker have increased the effort to find an alternative ultra-sensitive assay for pathological markers in peripheral blood. We believe that early presymptomalogical practical inexpensive strategies, for characterizing a potential surrogate marker in blood and CsF for AD is warranted, are of interest because they: 1) confirm diagnosis;2) enable epidemiological screening;3) identify distinct groups of patients (predictive testing);4) monitor progression and response to treatment and aid in design/implementation of optimal therapeutic regimens;5) further the study of the brain-behaviour relationship underlying neuro

Background: several related accidents occur in the laboratories due to insufficient regulation, inappropriate implementation of safety measures or unawareness attitude and practice toward safety precaution. Biosafety is a tool through which we are managing safety and security related to any kinds of hazards that may be either to the human, animals, plants and environment as well. We can implement good laboratory practice to minimize the risk while performing any kind of test procedures, either handling to the samples like blood and other body fluids which is playing important role for infections and transmissible diseases. If we will provide facilities and training to the lab personnel, then we can protect public, agriculture, and the environment from which is leading cause of infections as well as hazards such as biological, chemical, electrical and glassware. For achieving effective and necessary biosafety and security, it should make sure that any unauthorized person is not able to handle, process, transport to minimize loss and misuse of the any kind of hazards especially biohazards. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to make an international system to avoid any kind of biosafety related issues. Objective: Because biosafety is an important element in quality management system (QMs) and it is a fundamental tool for compliance with accreditation and certification standards, the aim of this study was to assess the practices of lab personnel towards biosafety measures in their laboratories. Method: The study was cross-sectional study that conducted among 70 laboratories by use of structured questionnaire. Data analysis was done by using statistical package for social science (sPss). Result: Among 70 laboratories, 2 (3%) were appointing a biosafety officer, 16 (23%) have fire detection system and fire alarm system, and 20 (29%) of all laboratories were provided by fire extinguisher. Diabetes is a major health global problem that has reached alarming levels. The present study aims for studying the effect of date palm pollen (Phoenix dactylifera L.) El-Hayani cultivar on serum glucose and lipids profile in induced diabetic male albino rats. Palm pollen chemically analyzed besides chemical constituents, mineral contents, polyphenols and flavonoids. 本论文分别采用三苯基磷(PPh3)液相磷化技术和二硫化碳(Cs2)液相硫化技术制备了 Ni2P/MgAlO和Ni3s2/MgAlO催化剂,采用X射线衍射(XRD)、透射电子显微镜(TEM)、N2吸附脱附实验(BET-BJH)以及X射线荧光光谱(XRF)等手段对催化剂进行了表征,研究了这两个催化剂的模型柴油加氢精制活性,即二苯并噻吩(DBT)加氢脱硫(HDs)活性和喹啉加氢脱氮(HDN)活性,同时考察了反应前后催化剂的物相和结构变化。论文还研究了 Ni/MgAlO和Ni2P/MgAlO催化剂上邻氯硝基苯气相加氢制邻氯苯胺的反应,考察了不同反应条件对邻氯硝基苯转化率和邻氯苯胺选择性的影响。本工作还测定了三苯基磷在不同溶剂中的溶解度,考察了溶剂对PPh3液相磷化Ni/MgAlO催化剂的影响,以期优化PPh3液相磷化工艺,提高担载Ni2P催化剂的活性,取得了良好的效果。

Prevalence and Correlates of Dyslipidemia among Adults in saudi Arabia: Results from a National survey

Data were collected and analyzed from a cross-sectional study using the World Health Organization’s sTEPwise approach, to estimate the prevalence of various types of dyslipidemia and determine their associated factors among adults in Kingdom of saudi Arabia. The study population included 4490 saudi adults aged 15 years and older who were selected by a stratified, multistage, cluster random sampling technique. Lipid profile was determined by spectrophotometrically by biochemical methods, high total cholesterol (TC) was defined as TC of 5.2 mmol/L or more, hypertriglyceridemia as serum triglycerides level 1.7 mmol/L or more and. low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) as serum HDL-C 0.9 mmol/L or less, LDL-C 3.35 mmol/L or more and TC/HDL ratio 5 or more. Of the 4490 subjects (94.4 % of total sample) included in the final analysis, 51% were females, 23% of study subjects were less than 25years and 11% were 55 or more years of age. The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia ranged from about 20% to 40%. The highest prevalence was for triglycerides where about 44% of all subjects were affected. About a fifth of the subjects had high level of total cholesterol. Males had significantly higher prevalence of all types of dyslipidemia than female except LDL-C and TC. Higher dyslipidemia prevalence of total cholesterol and triglycerides were significantly found in older subjects, illiterates and housekeepers. Lower prevalence rates for HDL-C was significantly observed in retired and youngest subjects. There were significant regional variations and significantly higher prevalence of dyslipidemia among hypertensives, diabetics, obese/overweight, smokers and physically inactive subjects. There were no significant differences according to income or fruits and vegetable consumption. AIM： To evaluate the potential of s-nitroso-N-acetylcysteine （sNAC） in inhibition of lipid peroxidation and the effect of oral sNAC administration in the prevention of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD） in an animal model.METHODs： NAFLD was induced in Wistar male rats by choline-deficient diet for 4 wk. sNAC-treated animals （n=6）（1.4 mg/kg/day of sNAC, orally） were compared to 2 control groups： one （n=6） received PBs solution and the other （n=6） received NAC solution （7 mg/kg/d）. Histological variables were semiquantitated with respect to macro and microvacuolar fat changes, its zonal distribution, foci of necrosis, portal and perivenular fibrosis, and inflammatory infiltrate with zonal distribution. LOOHs from samples of liver homogenates were quantified by HPLC. Nitrate levels in plasma of portal vein were assessed by chemiluminescence. Aqueous low-density lipoprotein （LDL） suspensions （200 pg protein/mL） were incubated with CuCl2 （300 μmol/L） in the absence and presence of sNAC （300 μmol/L） for 15 h at 37 ℃ Extent of LDL oxidation was assessed by fluorimetry. Linoleic acid （LA）（18.8 μmol/L） oxidation was induced by soybean lipoxygenase （sLO）（0.056 μmol/L） at 37 ℃ in the presence and absence of N-acetylcysteine （NAC） and sNAC （56 and 560 pmol/L） and monitored at 234 nm. REsULTs： Animals in the control group developed moderate macro and microvesicular fatty changes in periportal area. sNAC-treated animals displayed only discrete histological alterations with absence of fatty changes and did not develop liver steatosis. The absence of NAFLD in the sNAC-treated group was positively correlated with a decrease in the concentration of LOOH in liver homogenate, compared to the control group （0.7±0.2 nmol/mg vs 3.2±0.4 nmol/mg protein, respectively, P〈0.05）, while serum levels of aminotransferases were unaltered. The ability of sNAC in preventing lipid peroxidation was confirmed in in vitro experiments using LA and LDL as model substrates. CONCLUsION： Oral

This study investigates the groundwater aquifer located in Fayuim oasis. In this study, two of the electromagnetic measurement methods have been used in determining the hydrological situation in the Fayoum oasis. The first is airborne electromagnetic (AEM) which, sometimes is referred to as Helicopter electromagnetic (HEM) and the second is ground Time-domain Electromagnetic method (TEM). The subsurface consists of four geoelectrical layers with a rough slope towards the center. The third and the fourth layers in the succession are suggested to be the two-groundwater aquifers. The third layer saturates with fresh water overlying saline water which exists in the bottom of the second one. It is worth mentioning that the depth of the fresh water surface undulates between the surface level in two lakes in the study area and 57 meters below the ground, whereas the thickness of the fresh water aquifer varies from 13 to 36 meters. The depth of the saline water surface undulates between 59 and 81 meters below the ground. In general, airborne electromagnetic surveying has the advantage of fast resistivity mapping with high lateral resolution. Groundbased geophysical surveys are often more accurate, but they are definitely slower than airborne surveys. It depends on targets of interest, time, budget, and manpower available by the method or the combination of methods that will be chosen. A combination of different methods is useful to obtain a detailed understanding of the subsurface resistivity distribution.

Cholangiocarcinoma, Primary sclerosing Cholangitis, or IgG4-sclerosing Cholangitis: similar Presentations with Different Managements

In our case, we present a case of an 80-year-old male who was referred to the gastroenterologist for evaluation of a suspicious mass. CT imaging at the time had shown intrahepatic and extrahepatic biliary dilations, and the patient was thought to have a pancreatic or a common bile duct mass. A mass biopsy showed no malignancy, and further evaluation was warranted. The patient was found to have elevated IgG4 levels and was diagnosed with IgG4-sclerosing cholangitis (IgG4-sC). IgG4 has been found to create a wide array of pathologies, including autoimmune pancreatitis, dacryoadenitis, and sialadenitis. These pathologies have been grouped under an IgG4-Related Disease (IgG4-RD) category. In some cases, this IgG4-RD can present as a subclass of primary sclerosing cholangitis due to immune depositions and swelling of the CBD. Due to the strictures caused by the sclerosing cholangitis, intrahepatic and extrahepatic dilations might be found on endoscopic ultrasound (EUs). It is imperative to differentiate this from a malignant mass as the early recognition and treatment of IgG4-sC can lead to complete resolution. In this case report, we present a case of a patient who was found to have IgG4-sC and responded well to steroid treatment.
