A matched-pair analysis of laparoscopic versus open pancreaticoduodenectomy: oncological outcomes using Leeds Pathology Protocol

Ba.k.ROUND： Laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy（LPD）is a safe procedure. Oncological safety of LPD is still a matter for debate. This study aimed to compare the oncological outcomes,in terms of adequacy of resection and recurrence rate following LPD and open pancreaticoduodenectomy（OPD）.METHODS： Between November 2005 and April 2009, 12LPDs（9 ampullary and 3 distal common bile duct tumors）were performed. A cohort of 12 OPDs were matched for age,gender, body mass index（BMI） and American Society of Anesthesiologists（ASA） score and tumor ***： Mean tumor size LPD vs OPD（19.8 vs 19.2 mm,P=0.870）. R0 resection was achieved in 9 LPD vs 8 OPD（P=1.000）. The mean number of metastatic lymph nodes and total number resected for LPD vs OPD were 1.1 vs 2.1（P=0.140）and 20.7 vs 18.5（P=0.534） respectively. Clavien complications grade I/II（5 vs 8）, III/IV（2 vs 6） and pancreatic leak（2 vs 1）were statistically not significant（LPD vs OPD）. The mean high dependency unit（HDU） stay was longer in OPD（3.7 vs 1.4 days,P〈0.001）. There were 2 recurrences each in LPD and OPD（logra.k.P=0.983）. Overall mortality for LPD vs OPD was 3 vs 6（log-ra.k. P=0.283） and recurrence-related mortality was 2 vs *** was one death within 30 days in the OPD group secondary to severe sepsis and none in the LPD ***： Compared to open procedure, LPD achieved a similar rate of R0 resection, lymph node harvest and longterm recurrence for tumors less than 2 cm. Though technically challenging, LPD is safe and does not compromise oncological outcome.

Aqueous solutions of azo dyes undergo degradation to form harmless intermediates and colorless products following irradiation by visible light in the presence of titanium dioxide thin films. The dyes that were studied in this work are： Chicago Sky Blue 6B and Benzopurpurin 4B. Results obtained indicated that complete mineralization of the dyes took place under the experimental conditions. There was an increase in conductivity after the complete mineralization experiments possibly indicating the formation of ions such as NO3^- and SO4^2-. Chemical oxygen demand（COD） measurements show a decrease in organic matter for both dyes following complete degradation. The effect of how changing experimental conditions such as pH, temperature and starting concentrations of dyes affected the rate of dye degradation was measured. There was an increase in the rate of disappearance of the dye color at lower pH. High concentrations of dye solutions reauired Iona dearadation time.

Estimating Age in Short Utterances Based on Multi-Class Classification Approach

Age estimation in short speech utterances finds many applications in daily life like human-robot interaction,custom call routing,targeted ma.k.ting,user-profiling,*** the comprehensive studies carried out to extract descriptive features,the estimation errors(***)are still *** this study,an automatic system is proposed to estimate age in short speech utterances without depending on the text as well as the ***,four groups of features are extracted from each utterance frame using hybrid techniques and *** that,10 statistical functionals are measured for each extracted feature ***,the extracted feature dimensions are normalized and reduced using the Quantile method and the Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA)method,***,the speaker’s age is estimated based on a multi-class classification approach by using the Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)*** have been carried out on the TIMIT dataset to measure the performance of the proposed *** Mean Absolute Error(MAE)of the suggested system is 4.68 years,and 4.98 years,the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)is 8.05 and 6.97,respectively,for female and male *** results show a clear relative improvement in terms of MAE up to 28%and 10%for female and male speakers,respectively,in comparison to related works that utilized the TIMIT dataset.

Contraception with RISUG and functional reversal through DMSO and NaHCO3 in male rabbits

The study aimed to evaluate reversal of short- and long-term vas occlusion with reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance （RISUG） using dimethyl sulfoxide （DMSO） and sodium bicarbonate （NaHCO3） in male rabbits （Oryctolagus cuniculus）. Animals were divided into seven groups containing five animals each. Fortnightly, semen analysis revealed that sperm concentration and output steadily declined after vas occlusion and complete azoospermia was attained at 30-60 days postinjection. Spermatozoa reappeared at 60-75 days of reversal and normozoospermia was noticed between 135 days and 150 days in the reversal groups. All spermatozoa were found nonmotile prior to azoospermia and a gradual recovery in sperm motility was observed between 105 days and 135 days of reversal. A significant decline in viability of sperms was noticed during vas occlusion up to 30-60 days which recovered at 60-75 days postreversal and normalized by 75-105 days in the reversal groups. A significant enhancement in the sperm abnormalities was recorded in all vas occluded animals as well as those in initial periods of reversal. Other parameters, namely, semen volume, ejaculation time, pH, color, and consistency, remained unaltered during all phases of the study. Fertility test, at the intervals of 15 days, demonstrated that animals exhibited complete sterility during the entire period of vas occlusion. A gradual recovery in fertility was observed with the appearance of spermatozoa following vas occlusion reversal and 100% fertility was observed following 135-150 days of reversal. F, progeny of reversed animals was found normal. The results suggest that reversal with DMSO or NaHCO3 is feasible, with normal progeny, following short- and long-term contraception.
