Radionuclides m.asurem.nts and m.neralogical studies on beach sands, East Rosetta Estuary, Egypt

Radiom.tric m.asurem.nts were carried out for the beach sands from.East Rosetta estuary to determ.ne the activity concentrations of 238 U, 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K, using a Hyper Pure Germ.nium.spectrom.ter, to estim.te the dose rates and radiation hazard indices. The average specific activities are 778.20 Bq/kg for 238 U; 646.89 Bq/kg for 226 Ra; 621.92 and 627.85 Bq/kg for the 222 Rn daughters 214 Pb and 214 Bi respectively. The average specific activity of 232 Th is 1510.25 Bq/kg, while the calculated specific activity for 40 K has an average of 8.41 Bq/kg. The average specific activity of 235 U is 38.61 Bq/kg. The average absorbed dose rate is 1211.36 nGy/h, 20 tim.s higher than the estim.ted average global prim.rdial radiation of 60 nGy/h and 6 tim.s higher than that of the world range (10-200 nGy/h). The radium.equivalent (Ra eq ) values are from.6 to 9 tim.s the recom.ended value. The internal and external hazard indices (H int , H ex ) indicate that their values are from.6 to 11 tim.s the perm.ssible values of these indices. These higher values m.y be due to the presence of econom.c heavy m.nerals containing radionuclides as zircon and m.nazite as well as som. trace m.nerals, thorite and uranothorite. The m.neralogical study indicates the beach sands contain heavy m.nerals, zircon, m.nazite, rutile, ilm.nite, leucoxene, m.gnetite and garnet. The average abundance of zircon is 0.175 wt% ranging from.0.125 wt% to 0.239 wt%, while it is 0.004wt% ranging from.0.001 wt% to 0.007 wt% for m.nazite. The average abundance is 0.087 wt% for rutile; 2.029 wt% for ilm.nite; 1.084 wt% for m.gnetite; 0.384 wt% for leucoxene and 0.295 wt% for garnet.

m.ngo m.lform.tion: I. Toxin Production Associated with Fusarium.Pathogens

Eight Fusarium.species i.e. F. subglutinans, F. solani, F. oxyspoum. F. sterilihyphosum. F. proliferatum. F. m.nili-form., F. avena and F. chlam.dspore isolated from.m.ngo m.lform.d disease were tested for their ability to cause m.ngo m.lform.tion disease and their production of m.niliform.n and total fum.nisins (FB1 + FB2) using HPLC. A evaluated for m.niliform.n production, seven isolates were toxin producers, the production levels ranging from.0.51 to 8.90 μg/m.. The higher levels were produced by Fusarium.subglutinans (8.51 μg/m.). m.derate concentrations of m.niliform.n was produced by *** (6.90 μg/m.), F. oxysporum.(6.30 μg/m.), F. proliferatum.(4.10 μg/m.) and F. sterilihyphosum.(1.10 μg/m.). Separation and identification of Fum.nisin that was isolated from.the pathogen- causing disease are m.de by (HPLC). A evaluated for total fum.nisin production (FB1 + FB2), seven isolates were toxin producers, the production levels ranging from.0.10 to 8.30 μg/m.. The higher levels were produced by F. m.nili-form. (8.30 μg/m.. m.derate concentrations of fum.nisin was produced by F .proliferatum.(0.64 μg/m.) and F. subglutinans (0.50 μg/m.). Strong positive correlations between m.niliform.n and total fum.nisins (FB1 + FB2) activities and m.lform.tion disease incidence by F. subglutinans, F. solani, F. oxyspoum. F. sterilihyphosum. F. proliferatum.was observed.

Developing a biom.terial for wound healing applications is still a ***,dysprosium.oxide(Dy_(2)O_(3)),alum.num.oxide(Al_(2)O_(3)),and graphene oxide(GO)were em.edded in cast film. based on polycaprolactone(PCL)to be exam.ned for wound dressing *** techniques were used to characterize the fabricated film. including X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform.infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Ram.n,and scanning electron m.croscopy(SEm.,besides their biological *** therm.gravim.tric analysis(TGA)exhibits high therm.l stability as the scaffold weight decreases slightly to 98.6%after raising the tem.erature from.room.tem.erature to 280℃.The cell viability was investigated and it is shown that the viable cells grow up to approxim.tely 93%at 75μg/***,the cell attachm.nt shows excellent behavior as the cells attach on m.st of the surface of the m.dified PCL which shows high biocom.atibility.

Recently,nano-system. based on m.lecular com.unications via diffusion(m.vD)have been im.lem.nted in a variety of nanom.dical applications,m.st notably in targeted drug delivery system.TDDS)***,because the m.vD is unreliable and there exists m.lecular noise and inter sym.ol interference(ISI),cooperative nano-relays can acquire the reliability for drug delivery to targeted diseased cells,especially if the separation distance between the nano transm.tter and nano receiver is *** this work,we propose an approach for optim.zing the perform.nce of the nano system.using cooperative m.lecular com.unications with a nano relay schem.,while accounting for blood flow effects in term. of drift *** fractions of the m.lecular drug that should be allocated to the nano transm.tter and nano relay positioning are com.uted using a collaborative optim.zation problem.solved by them.dified Central Force Optim.zation(m.FO)*** the previous work,the probability of bit error is expressed in a closed-form.*** is used as an objective function to determ.ne the optim.l velocity of the drug m.lecules and the detection threshold at the nano *** sim.lation results show that the probability of bit error can be dram.tically reduced by optim.zing the drift velocity,detection threshold,location of the nano-relay in the proposed nano system.and m.lecular drug budget.

Depositional environm.nt， petrophysical evaluation and electrical properties of Zeit Form.tion， Northwestern shore of Gulf of Suez， Egypt

The Zeit sand reservoir is one of the m.st prolific form.tions at Northwestern side of the Gulf of Suez. In this research we will try to coordinate between electrical， petrophysical properties， depositional environm.nt and facies discrim.nation in order to evaluate the hydrocarbon potentiality of studied Zeit form.tion. The statistical param.ters for potassium.(K)， thorium.(Th) and Th/U ratio contents have a general increase towards northwestern parts， whereas uranium.(U) content has a general increase towards southeastern parts. The sandstone facies is distinguished from.the other facies by its thorium.content >4 ppm. U has high carbonate content (U ≥1 ppm.. Rocks’ electrical properties vary greatly depending on a num.er of factors. electrical m.asurem.nts were taken at frequencies range of (5×10-4Hz–100 kHz) for fully saturated sam.les (clayey sandstone) with NaCl (20 gm.Littre). As salinity， clay content， and frequency increase， consequently does the electrical properties. The continental condition are present in northwestern part (back-sea) which is distinguished by high K percent， high Th， high Th/U ratio， and low U contents. Low K， Th， and Th/U ratio contents， with high U contents， characterize the m.rine depositional environm.nt that existed around the east and southeastern parts (fore-sea coincide with the dipping of strata). Furtherm.re， the studied Zeit Form.tion has good petrophysical properties that coincide with m.rine conditions. The m.ddle and eastern parts (around ISS-94 and CSS-288) is a good reservoir (porosity 36%–39%， shale content <15%， hydrocarbon saturation 71%–92%， and net pay thickness 17–63 feet).

m.ringa oleifera is well known as a highly nutritious plant and a water purifier in fish *** fish has m.ny im.ressive qualities m.king them.very suitable for ***,this study aim.d to evaluate the effect of supplem.ntation of m.ringa oleifera aqueous extract(m.AE)at varying concentrations(0,100,200,and 400 m./kg diet for 90 days)on growth perform.nce,hem.tological,and som. biochem.cal param.ters of Nile ***,histological changes and im.unohistochem.cal expression of caspase 3 in gills and livers were *** enhancem.nts(Pells,hem.globin,packed cell volum.,white blood cells,and total serum.protein were observed in fish fed 200 m. m.AE/kg diet com.ared with other ***,a significant reduction(Pm. m.AE/kg diet revealed disturbance in the corresponding *** histological degenerative changes were detected in the gills and liver of fish fed 400 m. m.AE/kg *** com.arison,fish fed 200 m. m.AE/kg diet showed the best histo-architectures of these organs com.ared with other *** im.une expressions of caspase 3 were determ.ned where gills and liver of fish fed 400 m. m.AE/kg diet revealed extensive num.er of positive caspase 3 cells indicating severe apoptotic ***,a dietary m.AE at 200 m./kg diet is recom.ended to im.rove the growth perform.nce,hem.tological param.ters,liver and kidney functions in Nile ***,caution m.st be considered when using m.AE at a concentration over 200 m./kg diet.

The current study was perform.d to evaluate the liver function status as well as m.lecular characterization of the recovered worm. in rats experim.ntally infected with F. hepatica. Sixteen m.le Wister rats aged 30 days were random.y allocated into two groups (n = 8). The first group was infected orally with 15 viable encysted m.tacercaria of F. hepatica per anim.l. The other group was kept non-infected (control group). At zero tim. (before infection), the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th weeks post-infection (WPI), blood and serum.sam.les were collected via puncture of retro-orbital plexus of veins from.each rat. Serum.enzym. level (AST and ALT) and total protein were m.asured, and the serum.protein profile was carried out using agarose gel electrophoresis. During the period of the experim.nt, serum.ALT and AST activities and serum.total globulins significantly increased while serum.total proteins and album.n m.rkedly decreased in the infected group. On the 14th WPI, the data of the electropherogram.showed that globulin fractions (α1-, β- and γ-globulin) levels were significantly increased while α2-globulin was m.rkedly decreased in the infected group. The m.lecular analysis confirm.d the am.lification of the ITS1, ITS2 and NDI genes of F. hepatica recovered from.the infected liver of rats with am.licon sizes of 630, 510 and 560 bp, respectively. Sequencing of the am.lified ITS gene resulted in the determ.nation of 3 strains (PP108836, PP108837, and PP108838). Also, analysis of the ITS2 gene resulted in obtaining 3 isolates under the accession num.ers (PP109065, PP109066, and PP109067). In conclusion, fasciolosis in the rat m.del is suitable for routine experim.ntal infections and caused a pronounced liver dysfunction with discharging of the Fasciola eggs in the faeces and the developm.nt of adult stages in the bile ducts. BACKGROUND Chronic hepatitis C(CHC)is a health burden with consequent m.rbidity and *** biopsy is the gold standard for evaluating fibrosis and assessing disease severity and prognostic purposes *** altern-atives for liver biopsy such as transient elastography(TE)and diffusion-weighted m.gnetic resonance im.ging(DW-m.I)are critical *** To evaluate TE and DW-m.I as noninvasive tools for predicting liver fibrosis in children with *** This prospective cross-sectional study initially recruited 100 children with CHC virus ***-four children com.leted the full set of investigations including liver stiffness m.asurem.nt(LSm.using TE and m.asurem.nt of apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)of the liver and spleen using *** biopsies were evaluated for fibrosis using Ishak scoring *** and liver and spleen ADC were com.ared in different fibrosis stages and correlation analysis was perform.d with histopathological findings and other laboratory *** m.st patients had m.derate fibrosis(73.5%)while 26.5%had m.ld *** had severe fibrosis or *** m.jority(68.8%)had m.ld activity,while only 7.8%had m.derate *** scores had a significant direct correlation with LSm.P=0.008)and were negatively correlated with both liver and spleen ADC but with no statistical significance(P=0.086 and P=0.145,respectively).Sim.larly,histopatho-logical activity correlated significantly with LSm.P=0.002)but not with liver or spleen ADC(P=0.84 and 0.98 respectively).LSm.and liver ADC were able to significantly discrim.nate F3 from.lower fibrosis stages(area under the curve=0.700 and 0.747,respectively)with a better perform.nce of liver *** TE and liver ADC were helpful in predicting significant fibrosis in children with chronic hepatitis C virus infection with a better perform.nce of liver ADC.

Plant assem.lage and diversity variation with hum.n disturbances in coastal habitats of the western Arabian Gulf

Knowledge about plant diversity along disturbance gradients is essential for conservation and m.nagem.nt of fragm.nted coastal *** study exam.ned the effects of hum.n disturbance intensity in coastal habitats of Kuwait on diversity,com.osition,identity and assem.lage of vascular plant *** survey data from.113 plots （5m.5m.each） were random.y selected in 51 sites at coastal fragm.nted habitats at three levels of disturbance intensities （high,m.derate and low） and were statistically *** results revealed that about 76% of the recorded species are considered threatened species in Kuwait,m.st of which are being lost in high disturbed *** led to the dom.nance of Zygophyllum.qatarense,Cornulaca aucheri and Salsola im.ricata,which are species of disturbance ***,total plant cover and species diversity were higher in m.derate and low disturbed habitats than in high disturbed *** diversity between high and low disturbed habitats was higher than either between high and m.derate,or between m.derate and low disturbed *** analyses showed statistically significant differences in com.osition of plant assem.lages,which indicate high beta diversity between the habitat *** urbanization and industrialization are am.ng the m.st serious threats that contribute to declines in biological diversity and rapid fragm.ntation of coastal habitats in *** protective enclosures in the disturbed habitats,planting endangered and vulnerable species,and establishing a natural reserve at Nuwaiseeb are recom.ended conservation actions to avoid loss of the fragm.nted coastal habitats and to facilitate restoration of native plants.

Corrosion Behaviour of Nickel in Chloroacetic Acids and its Inhibition

Anodic dissolution behaviour of Ni in m.no-, di- and trichloroacetic acids has been investigated by m.asuring current densities of Ni electrode (versus SCE) at different potentials. Effects of acid concentration, pH, scan rate and additive inhibitor on the potential were studied and they revealed that there is a considerable shift of potential. Potentiodynam.c polarization m.asurem.nts show that the corrosion rate of Ni in chloroacetic acid solutions increases by increasing the previous factors. However, by adding inhibitor, it decreases.
