Interaction of insulin with prokinetic drugs in STZ-induced diabetic mice

AIm:To study the possible interactions of metoclopramide,dom.e.idone and erythromycin in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice treated with insulin by various ***:effects of the individual as well as combined drugs were studied in diabetic mice via estimation of the blood glucose and serum insulin levels,small intestinal transit(SIT),gastric emptying(Ge),xylose absorption and glucose tolerance *** were given insulin 2 IU/kg s.c.,metoclopramide 20 mg/kg p.o.,dom.e.idone 20 mg/kg *** erythromycin 6 mg/kg *** and in *** were also normal and diabetic control *** first set of experiments was carried out to investigate the subchronic effect on blood glucose and serum insulin levels in diabetic mice of one week of daily dose administration of the tested drugs individually as well as the combination of insulin with each prokinetic *** other five sets of experiments were carried out to investigate the acute effect of a single dose of each drug individually and in combination on blood glucose and serum insulin levels,SIT,Ge,oral xylose absorption and glucose tolerance ***:The study included the prokinetic drugs metoclopramide(20 mg/kg),dom.e.idone(20 mg/kg) and erythromycin(6 mg/kg),as well as insulin(2 IU/kg),which was individually effective in decreasing SIT,enhancing Ge and increasing xylose absorption significantly in diabetic *** tended to decrease blood glucose level and increase serum insulin level after 1 wk of daily administration in diabetic *** potentiated the effect of insulin on blood glucose level and serum insulin level whereas other prokinetic agents failed to do so after repeated dose administration in diabetic *** or erythromycin in combination with insulin significantly decreased SIT,in diabetic mice,to lower levels than with insulin *** of prokinetic drugs along with insulin antagonized the action of insulin on xylose abs

Properties, Inference and Applications of Inverse Power Two-Parameter Weighted Lindley Distribution

We proposed “a new extension of three-parametric distribution” called the inverse power two-parameter weighted Lindley (IPWL) distribution capable of modeling a upside-down bathtub hazard rate function. This distribution is studied to get basic structural properties such as reliability measures, moments, inverse moments and its related measures. Simulation studies are done to present the performance and behavior of maximum likelihood estimates of the IPWL distribution parameters. Finally, we perform goodness of fit measures and test statistics using a real data set to show the performance of the new distribution.

Biometric security is a growing trend,as it supports the authentication of persons using conﬁdential biometric *** of the transmitted data in multi-media systems are susceptible to attacks,which affect the security of these *** systems provide sufﬁcient protection and privacy for *** recently-introduced cancellable biometric recognition systems have not been investigated in the presence of different types of *** addition,they have not been studied on different and large biometric *** point that deserves consideration is the hardware implementation of cancellable biometric recognition *** paper presents a suggested hybrid cancellable biometric recognition system based on a 3D chaotic *** rationale behind the utilization of the 3D chaotic cryptosystem is to guarantee strong encryption of biometric templates,and hence enhance the security and privacy of *** suggested cryptosystem adds signiﬁcant permutation and diffusion to the encrypted biometric *** introduce some sort of attack analysis in this paper to prove the robustness of the proposed cryptosystem against *** addition,a Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)implementation of the pro-posed system is *** obtained results with the proposed cryptosystem are compared with those of the traditional encryption schemes,such as Double Random Phase encoding(DRPe)to reveal superiority,and hence high recogni-tion performance of the proposed cancellable biometric recognition *** obtained results prove that the proposed cryptosystem.e.hances the security and leads to better efﬁciency of the cancellable biometric recognition system in the presence of different types of attacks.

Combination of Paracetamol and the Glutathione Depleting Agent Buthionine Sulfoximine Show Differential effect on Liver Cancer Cells and Normal Hepatocytes

Background: Paracetamol exerts toxic effects on liver cells through its metabolism into N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), which is detoxified by conjugation with cellular glutathione (GSH). Once GSH is depleted, NAPQI stimulates a range of oxidative reactions that result in cell necrosis. The aim of the present investigation is to find a new strategy that would selectively protect normal hepatic tissues and sensitize liver cancer cells to the toxic effects of paracetamol or its metabolite. This may lead to the development of a targeted therapy for liver cancer. methods: The anti-proliferative effects of paracetamol and buthionine sulfoximine BSO (a glutathione depleting agent) alone and in combination on the liver cancer cells HepG2 and normal rat hepatocytes were investigated by sulphorhodamine-B assay. effects on cell cycle regulation and induction of apoptosis were tested by flow cytometry. The level of prostaglandin expression was measured by elISA. Results: The present study showed that both agents alone or in combination have anti-proliferative effects on both cell types. Surprisingly, BSO showed a cytoprotective effects on normal hepatocytes treated with high concentrations (1.75 and 2 mm) of paracetamol. This was confirmed by cell cycle analysis that recorded decreased fraction of sub-G1 cells indicating reduction of apoptosis in normal hepatocytes. Analysis of prostaglandin e2 revealed differential effects of paracetamol on normal and liver cancer cells. A significant increase in PGe2 level over the control was observed in normal hepatocytes whereas a significant decrease was seen in HepG2 cells after treatment with paracetamol. Conclusion: These results indicate that combination of paracetamol/BSO has differential effects on liver cancer cells and normal hepatocytes, which opens the avenue for a new effective and selective combination for management of liver cancer.

Performance Comparison of Various machine Learning Approaches to Identify the Best One in Predicting Heart Disease

Nowadays, machine learning is growing fast to be more popular in the world, especially in the healthcare field. Heart diseases are one of the most fatal diseases, and an early prediction of such disease is a vital task for many medical professionals to save their patient’s life. The main contribution of this research is to provide a comparative analysis of different machine learning models to reach the most supporting decision for diagnosing heart disease with better accuracy as compared to existing models. Five models namely, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Logistic Regression (LR), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector machine (SVm), and extreme Gradient Boost (XGB), have been introduced for this purpose. Their performance has been tested and compared considering different metrics for precise evaluation. The comparative study has proven that the XGB is the most suitable model due to its superior prediction capability to other models with an accuracy of 91.6% and 100% on two different heart ailments datasets, respectively. Both datasets were acquired from the heart diseases repositories where dataset_1 was taken from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and dataset_2 was from Kaggle.

桃仁中油和蛋白质的含量分别为54.5％和27.5％,灰分和碳水化合物含量很低。总脂类中含有98％甘油三酸酯;甾醇和极性脂类分别为0.41％和1.1％。脂肪酸组成主要为油酸(63.8％)、亚油酸(15.4％);饱和脂肪酸为20.7％。脱脂粉呈现良好的吸油和乳化特性, 但是吸水作用和发泡能力较低。在酸性和碱性两种pH下蛋白质的溶解度都高;在pH4.3情况下,溶解度最低。清蛋白是蛋白质的主要组成成份(占60％);其次为非蛋白质氮(17％)、球蛋白和谷蛋白组分为9.5％和8.2％、醇溶谷蛋白仅为6.0％。胃—胰蛋白酶对蛋白质消化力最高, 而胰蛋白酶消化率最低。蛋白质富含赖氨酸、亮氨酸、异亮氨酸、缬氨酸、苏氨酸、以及碱性和酸性氨基酸,但是蛋氨酸缺乏。聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳分析(PAGe)表明,由不同迁移率分离出五条谱带,它们含有高和低的两种分子量的蛋白质。

Identification and Conservation State of Painted Wall Plasters at the Funerary House in Necropolis of Tuna el-Gebel, el-minia-Upper egypt

During this study, the principal aim carried out was to obtain more information about technique and conservation conditions of the egyptian wall paintings during the Roman period in the funerary house in necropolis of Tuna el-Gabal, el-minia-Upper egypt. It’s going back to 2nd century AD and involves different sites of Ptolemaic and Roman chapels;some are in the immaculate established style while others are a blend of Pharaonic-Greek style and both are secured with mural painting. Deterioration problems observed on the wall paintings of the funerary house are, loss of plaster layers, disintegration of plaster layers, loss of paint layers (blistering and peeling), discoloration and severely damaged owing to a lot of deterioration factors as weakness of mud brick support, deterioration of surface treatments and to the widespread presence of different salts. The materials used in the painting, preparation layers and the state of conservation of the mural painting at funerary house were investigated by integrated physio-chemical measurements, particularly micro-Raman spectroscopy (µRaman), light optical microscopy (LOm), scanning electron microscopy (Sem) coupled with an energy dispersive X-ray analysis system (eDX), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). In addition, the morphology of multilayer plaster from wall painting was investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFm). A wide color palette utilized as a part of the necropolis has been identified with mineral pigments and pigment mixtures. It is found that, the paints were based on an organic binder and traditional pigments (azurite, hematite, ochre, vegetable black) were used as colorants on plaster. The examination demonstrated that the preparatory layer is verging on made of pure lime while the plaster layer based mainly of lime and gypsum with variable amounts of quartz. Gold and Base metals Associated with Uranium mineralization in Some Lower Carboniferous Rock Units in the Wadi Abu el mogheirat Area, Southwestern Sinai, egypt

The Lower Carboniferous sediments at Wadi Abu el mogheirat consist of four stratigraphic formations, from base upwards: Um Bogma, el Hashash, magharet el maiah and Abu Zarab formations. The most-concentrated radioactive anomalies at Wadi Abu el mogheirat are in the middle mem.e. of the Um Bogma Formation. The gibbsitic marl in this formation shows the highest uranium contents(around 710 ppm). Gibbsitic marl and black gibbsite of the middle Um Bogma Formation show higher enrichment in Co, Cu, mn, Ni, Pb, Zn, U, V, Ce and Th. Black gibbsite contains the highest total rare earth elements concentration, especially in terms of LRees, while gibbsitic marl contains the highest content of HRees. Anomalous contents of gold at Wadi Abu el mogheirat are recorded for the first time in the gibbsitic marl(content: 10.4 ppm), black gibbsite(2.8 ppm) of the middle mem.e. of the Um Bogma Formation and in the siltstones of the el Hashash Formation(0.6 ppm). Gibbsitic marl shows the presence of uranothorite, celestite, zircon, atacamite, barite, xenotime and rutile. These characteristic demonstrate that the middle mem.e. of the Um Bogma Formation constitutes a potential source for gold. This conclusion is reinforced by the potential to exploit other metals such as Co, Cu, mn, Ni, Pb, Zn, U, V, Th and Ce as by-products.

Im.e.ance analysis of Labisia pumila plant water status

Labisia pumila(Kacip fatimah)is a popular medicinal plant in *** constituents of this plant have been reported to possess anticancer,antioxidant and anti-inflammatory *** growth and production of *** is greatly influenced by the plant water *** techniques to measure plant water status are generally based on the plant soil moisture,which apparently did not indicate the real water content inside the *** are other techniques to measure directly on the plant such as based on leaf water potential(LWP)and relative water content(RWC).However,these techniques are destructive and time *** this study,four levels of evapotranspiration replacement(eR)treatment which were 100%eR,75%eR,50%eR and 25%eR was applied to 30 polybags of *** *** plant water status was measured using an im.e.ance spectroscopy technique.A pair of electrocardiogram.e.G)electrode connected to an im.e.ance analyzer board was used to measure the im.e.ance value of the leaf samples *** water status parameters such as LWP,RWC,volumetric moisture content(VmC),and leaf thickness were measured using standard *** results show that after 20 weeks of treatment,25%eR had the highest im.e.ance value ranged from 0.10 mX to 0.15 mX at the frequency of 70–100 *** resistance of 100%eR at 20 weeks of treatment increased from 0.70 kX to 1.23 kX as the reactance decreased from 0.51 kX to 0.28 ***,the resistance of 25%eR increased from 1 kX to 1.10 kX as the reactance decreased from 0.88 kX to 0.83 *** polynomial regression of im.e.ance measurements with plant water status parameters(VmC,leaf thickness,LWP and RWC)shows that LWP and RWC had the highest R2(0.78,0.73).The results show that im.e.ance measurement technique is auspicious to evaluate plant water status.

Rubber band ligation for 750 cases of symptomatic hemorrhoids out of 2200 cases

AIm: To study the results for the treatment of symptomatic hemorrhoids using rubber band ligation (RBL) method. meTHODS: A retrospective study for 750 patients who came to the colorectal unit from June, 1998 to Septem.e., 2006, data was retrieved from archived fi les. RBL was performed using the mc Gown applicator on an outpatient basis. The patients were asked to return to out-patient clinic for follow up at 2 wk, 1 mo, 6 mo and through telephone call every 6 mo for 2 years). ReSULTS: After RBL, 696 patients (92.8%) were cured with no difference in outcome for second or third degree hemorrhoids (P = 0.31). Symptomatic recurrence was detected in 11.04% after 2 years. A total of 52 patients (6.93%) had 77 complications from RBL which required no hospitalization. Complications were pain, rectal bleeding and vaso-vagal symptoms(4.13%, 4.13% and 1.33% of patients, respectively). At 1 mo there were a significant improvement in mean SF-36 scores over baseline in five items, while after 2 years there were improvement in all items over baseline, but not significant. No significant manometeric changes after band ligation. CONCLUSION: RBL is a simple, safe and effective method for treating symptomatic second and third degree hemorrhoids as an out patient procedure with signifi cant improvement in quality of life. RBL doesn't alter ano-rectal functions.
