Twenty patients with diabetes type-2, aged between 38 and 61 years, with at least one cardiovascular risk factor were divided in two groups （Group-1 included newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients without treatment with oral antidiabetic OAD, Group-2： patients with diabetes type 2 under OAD ＋/- insulin （N = 11））. Patients from both groupswere taking Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide （NADH） Rapid Energy 80 mg/day in two takes for a period of 56 days. A greater reduction in average fasting glucose and HbAlc after 56 days was observed in the patients of group 1 not taking metformin compared to patients of group-2 which were taking metformin. Why metformin reduces the anti-diabetic effect of NADH will be discussed.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dysmenorrhea among adolescents in Dubai, and its effect on their academic and athletic performance. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in ten randomly selected private and government high schools in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Using both the English and Arabic translated version of the Women’s Health Symptom Survey Questionnaire World, data was collected from 456 female students of grades 7 - 12, aged 11 - 19 years. Results: Dysmenorrhea was a crucial problem reported by 432 (94.7%) of the participants. Of the total number, 208 (45%) participants reported experiencing severe pain during menstruation and 152 (33.4%) students reported being absent from school during every menstrual cycle. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were used by 147 (32.3%) students, and majority reported no or little improvement. The percentage of students who experienced menstrual pain with micturition or defecation was 43.1% and 46.7%, respectively. None of the participants reported the use of hormonal agents. Conclusion: The unexpected high number of female adolescents who reported symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea necessitating treatment, as well as subsequent school absenteeism, calls for implementation of a screening questionnaire for early detection of persistent primary dysmenorrhea. Moving from surgical to clinical diagnosis of endometriosis can contribute greatly to improving the quality of life and reproductivity of female adolescents with severe dysmenorrhea.

Chemical Treatment Effects of Blue, Yellow and Green Colors with Heating Methods on Agates of Cheshme Shoor Area, Qom, Iran

The Cheshme Shoor area is located in northeast of Qom which is a part of central Iran geo-structural zone. The rocks of the area are mainly volcanic rocks that include Eocene acidic tuffs and ignimbrites. Different types of agate, jasper and amethyst formed as secondary cavity filling deposits in variety of colors and shapes in the area. In this paper, chemical treatments by different chemicals with heating methods in 15 different procedures have been conducted on one agate sample of the study area which has been divided into smaller pieces by milling. Dyeing with these methods has been done in blue, yellow and green colors. Excellent results have been achieved in 9 processes, significant but not expected results have been illustrated in 4 processes and 2 processes have been represented no changes. Produced colors have had a natural and light color which makes them more desirable to the consumers but totally these dyeing processes illustrate that concentration of the solution is effective in coloring and solutions with more concentrations produce stronger color.

Microbial fuel cells(MFCs)are bio-electrochemical systems that can directly convert the chemical energy contained in an effluent into bioelectricity by the action of *** performance of these devices is heavily impacted by the choice of the material that forms the *** work focuses on the assessment of ferroelectric and photocatalytic materials as a new class of non-precious catalysts for MFC cathode construction.A series of cathodes based on mixed oxide solid solution of LiTaO_3with WO_3formulated as Li_(1-x)Ta_(1-x)W_xO_3(x=0,0.10,0.20 and0.25),were prepared and investigated in *** catalyst phases were synthesized,identified and characterized by DRX,PSD,MET and UV–Vis absorption *** cathodes were tested as photoelectrocatalysts in the presence and in the absence of visible light in devices fed with industrial *** results revealed that the catalytic activity of the cathodes strongly depends on the ratio of substitution of W^(6+)in the LiTaO_*** maximum power densities generated by the MFC working with this series of cathodes increased from60.45 mW·m^(-3)for x=0.00(LiTaO_3)to 107.2 mW·m^(-3)for x=0.10,showing that insertion of W^(6+)in the tantalate matrix can improve the photocatalytic activity of this ***,MFCs operating under optimal conditions were capable of reducing the load of chemical oxygen demand by 79%(COD_(initial)=1030 mg·L^(-1)).

In this work, the use of lithium niobate （LiNbO3）, a ferroelectric and photocatalyst material, is investi- gated as a new type of cathode catalyst for wastewater-fed single-chamber microbial fuel cells （MFCs）. Carbon cloth electrodes coated with LiNbO3 were studied with and without UV-vis irradiation to assess its photocatalytic behavior in these devices. The synthesized phase of LiNbO3 was characterized by X- ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, particle size distribution, and transmission electron microscopy analyses. The MFC containing a LiNbO3-based cathode exhibited a maximum open circuit potential and power output of 400 mV and 131 mW/m^3, respectively, under irradiation. This cathode configuration also achieved the maximum chemical oxygen demand removal of 84% after 120 h of MFC operation. These results show that ferroelectric materials such as LiNbO3 could be used as cathode cat- alysts in MFC devices. As a complementary analysis, the removal of the heavy metals detected in the wastewater was also monitored.

Economic Geology of the XIV Iron-Oxide Prospect, Bafq Mining District, Central Iran: A Preliminary Approach

This paper presents an overview about the XIV iron-oxide prospect which is located in the Bafq mining district, central Iran. The prospect and its host rocks were investigated by field observations together with mineralogical and geochemical studies. According to these investigations, the XIV prospect is similar to Kiruna-type iron deposits and demonstrates a magmatic source for the ore forming processes with a metasomatic overprinting.

Many approaches have been proposed to pre-compute data cubes in order to efficiently respond to OLAP queries in data warehouses. However, few have proposed solutions integrating all of the possible outcomes, and it is this idea that leads the integration of hierarchical dimensions into these responses. To meet this need, we propose, in this paper, a complete redefinition of the framework and the formal definition of traditional database analysis through the prism of hierarchical dimensions. After characterizing the hierarchical data cube lattice, we introduce the hierarchical data cube and its most concise reduced representation, the closed hierarchical data cube. It offers compact replication so as to optimize storage space by removing redundancies of strongly correlated data. Such data are typical of data warehouses, and in particular in video games, our field of study and experimentation, where hierarchical dimension attributes are widely represented.

Prior studies have noted that gas nitriding has a considerable effect for wear resistance. The aim of this paper is to study the influence of gas nitriding time (12, 24, 36 and 48 h) in the wear behaviour of 42CrMo4 steel. It has been assessed by micro hardness, pin-on-disc tribosystem, and SEM through the nitrided layer for each nitriding time. The study relates to the performance of the compound layer and the diffusion layer with respect to adhesive wear. The results were analyzed in terms of the weight lost during wear, for nitrided steel with and without the compound layer, and for untreated steel. It has been observed that wear rate varies as a function of the tests conditions due to the presence of different wear mechanisms. Thus, for short tests conditions wear rate depends on two mechanisms: plastic deformation and adhesive wear, whereas for large tests conditions the mechanisms controlling wear rate are abrasive and oxidative wear. Furthermore, this study contains an analysis of the wear mechanisms of a nitrided part, founded on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of the wear traces at various stages of the evolution of wear. The SEM examination of worn surfaces revealed signatures for the adhesion, abrasion, delamination and tribochemical (oxidative) modes of wear. This is an important issue for future research.

Evaluating Pressure Ulcer Development in Wheelchair-Bound Population Using Sitting Posture Identification

Pressure ulcers are a common complication among wheelchair-bound population. They are resulted from prolonged exposure to high pressure, which restricts blood flow and leads to tissue necrosis. In this work, a continuous pressure monitoring system is developed for pressure ulcer prevention. The system consists of 64 pressure sensors on a 40×50 cm2 sheet. Real time pressure data and corresponding maps are displayed on a computer simultaneously. Furthermore, a posture detection procedure is proposed for sitting posture identification. Having information about the patient’s postural history, caregivers are capable of a better decision about repositioning and treating the patient.
