Structures erected on swelling clay soils are subjected to several stresses which are at the origin of the premature deterioration of the infrastructures. The soils being supports for the works, the improvement of their weak characteristics with cotton fibers will not only increase the bearing capacities of these soils and the resolution of the environmental problem, by eliminating the CO2 produced by the burning of the stems after harvest. The objective of this study is to contribute to the improvement of the characteristics by cotton stalk powder of the swelling clay soils used as the foundation of the infrastructures in order to guarantee their durability. Identification and mechanical parameterization tests were carried out on raw soil samples taken at 1.5 meters deep and on samples improved with cotton stalk powder at different levels (3%, 6% and 10%). The results from the physical tests reveal that the soil studied is very plastic silt. As for the mechanical tests, it appears that by adding 3% cotton stalk powder to dry density which goes from 1.435 t/mp>3p> compared to the control sample with a dry density of 1.50 t/mp>3p>;which reflects an improvement in the compaction characteristics of the soil studied. The dry densities are 1.445 t/mp>3p> and 1.29 t/mp>3p> for the samples improved with 6% and 10% cotton stalk powder.

The present study aims at environmental protection through the use of plastic wastes in the production of mortar. The behavior of siliceous sand-based mortars from Togo and binders of plastic bags of the kind “voltic” is analyzed. Mortar samples from a mixture of siliceous sand and binder of plastic bags are prepared and subjected to physical and mechanical tests after immersion in the hydrocarbon from 0 hour to 504 hours. The result demonstrates that hydrocarbons have no influence on mechanical properties of mortars for an immersion time below 3 hours. Between 3 hours and 24 hours the presence of hydrocarbon increases their physical and mechanical properties. After 24 hours mortars generally lose the mechanical properties of around 8% to 24% due to the loss of viscosity and cohesiveness of the binder caused by the fuel. The behavior in the face of hydrocarbons shows that the material can be used in the surface of roads by carefully avoiding that hydrocarbons remain on the roads for a period of time beyond 24 hours.

The plasticity index is an essential design parameter used as a standard input in fine-grained soil investigation *** is used to estimate the plasticity and physical properties of soils,and indirectly their strength *** index is determined from the Atterberg limit tests,starting from the limits of liquidity and ***,the realization of the test considered as basic and simple,is not so *** effects of the operator,the calibration of the apparatus and the environmental aspects during the tests affect the reliability and accuracy of the *** this paper,the objective is to overcome these difficulties by evaluating the plasticity index of clay and loam soils by considering only the values of the liquid *** samples were collected from 0 to 5 m depth in the localities of the Khôdepression in *** these samples,Atterberg limit tests were performed in the *** MATLAB’s Curve Fitting Toolbox,linear,exponential and power prediction models were *** results showed that there is indeed a good correlation between the plasticity index and the liquid limit of the *** the linear model,it was observed R2 equal to *** the exponential model,R2 is 0.98871 and for the power model 0.9802.A study of the residual plot validated the models found,as well as comparisons with well-known literature *** the equations obtained,it is now possible to study the plasticity of soils in the Khôdepression only from the liquid limit,without determining the plasticity limit.

peanut is a worldwide oilseed crop and the need to assess germplasm in a non-destructive manner is important for seed nutritional *** this study,Near Infrared Spectroscopy(NIRS)was applied to rapidly assess germplasm variability from whole seed of 699 samples,field-collected and assembled in four genetic and environmentbased sets:one set of 300 varieties of a core-collection and three sets of 133 genotypes of an interspecific population,evaluated in three environments in a large spatial scale of two countries,Mbalmayo and Bafia in Cameroon and Nioro in Senegal,under rainfed *** elemental spectra were gathered on six subsets of seeds of each sample,after three rotation scans,with a spectral resolution of 16 cm-1over the spectral range of867 nm to 2530 *** were then processed by principal component analysis(pCA)coupled with partial least squares-discriminant analysis(pLS-DA).As results,a huge variability was found between varieties and genotypes for all NIR wavelength within and between *** magnitude of genetic variation was particularly observed at 11 relevant wavelengths such as 1723 nm,usually related to oil content and fatty acid *** yielded the most chemical attributes in three significant pCs(i.e.,eigenvalues>10),which together captured 93%of the total variation,revealing genetic and environment structure of varieties and genotypes into four clusters,corresponding to the four samples *** pattern of genetic variability of the interspecific population covers,remarkably half of spectrum of the core-collection,turning out to be the ***,a pLS-DA model was developed and a strong accuracy of 99.6%was achieved for the four sets,aiming to classify each seed sample according to environment *** confusion matrix achieved for the two sets of Bafia and Nioro showed 100%of instances classified correctly with 100%at both sensitivity and specificity,confirming that their seed quality was different f

Motivations,enablers and barriers to the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices by smallholder farmers:Evidence from the transitional and savannah agroecological zones of Ghana

This paper examined the prioritized climate-smart agricultural practices by smallholder farmers,the motivations of adopting climate-smart agricultural practices,the enablers to the successful adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices,and the barriers to the successful adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices in the transitional and savannah agroecological zones of ***,we employed ethnographic research using participatory approaches,including two stakeholder workshops and household surveys with 1061 households in the transitional and savannah agroecological zones of *** weighted average index(WAI)and problem confrontation index(pCI)were used to rank smallholder farmers’perceived enablers to the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and the barriers affecting climate-smart agricultural practices,*** suggest that the majority of the respondents used a suite of climate-smart agricultural practices,including the timely harvesting of produce and storage,emergency seed banking,appropriate and timely weed and pest control,and early planting as practices to build climate *** majority of smallholder farmers primarily employed climate-smart agricultural practices to improve household food security(96.2%),reduce pests and diseases(95.6%),and obtain higher yields and greater farm income(93.2%).Findings also show that secured land tenure system arrangement,understanding the effects of climate change,and access to sustainable agricultural technologies were ranked the first,second,and third most important enablers to the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices with the WAI values of 2.86,2.75,and 2.70,*** barriers to the successful adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices included incidences of pests and diseases(pCI=2530),inadequate access to agricultural credit(pCI=2502),high cost of improved crop varieties(pCI=2334),and limited government support with farm inputs(pCI=2296).Sm

Wrist Septic Arthritis Due to <i>Streptococcus pneumoniae</i>Revealing a Selective Immunoglobulin G4 Subclass Deficiciency: A Case Report

The pneumococcal septic arthritis is uncommon in healthy adults. In most cases, it occurs in patients with immune deficiency. Its exceptional location at the wrist can maintain doubt with rheumatic causes which are more frequent. IgG4 deficiency found in this patient was the only cause that could be impugned. We report the case of a young woman of 46 years without any evident cause of immunodeficiency and any particular risk factor, managed for septic arthritis of the wrist due to Streptococcus pneumoniae. This case without any apparent risk factors demonstrates that pneumococcal infection in a more distant articulation of the ENT is still possible. Scan has been a very significant contribution in confirming the positive diagnosis that leads to surgical drainage. The approach of the systematic search for the gateway must be done. In the study of the patient’s immune status, the realization of the protein profile could be interesting and then guide the practitioner in the decision to vaccinate the patient against Streptococcus pneumoniae if he was not. We recommend looking always for a cause of immunodeficiency including primary Ig defiencies even among adult.

Simultaneous extraarticular fracture of the base of the first metacarpal and dislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb： A case report

Double fracture-dislocations of the thumb are rare. Only a single case report of a simultaneous extraarticular fracture of the base of the first metacarpal and dislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint has been previously reported. We report the second case report of this injury in a 20-year-old man. The patient had an excellent outcome after treatment.

Elbow Dislocation with Ipsilateral Galeazzi Fracture: A Case Report

Elbow dislocation associated with ipsilateral Galeazzi fracture is a rare pattern of injury. Only seven cases were reported in the literature. We reported another case in a 42 years old man. Closed reduction of the dislocated elbow joint was immediately performed under sedation. Because the patient did not want surgery for radius, it was decided to manage the fracture conservatively. The lack of clinical improvement motivated operative treatment for Galeazzi fracture 56 days after injury. We have discussed the treatment option and the result obtained. The prognosis of this associated injury is related to the DRUJ dislocation, which should not be misdiagnosed.
