The operating temperature is a critical factor affecting the performances of photovoltaic(PV)*** this work,relevant models are proposed for the prediction of this operating temperature using data(ambient temperature and solar irradiance)based on real measurements conducted in the tropical *** each weather condition(categorized according to irradiance and temperature levels),the temperatures of the PV modules obtained using the proposed approach is compared with the corresponding experimentally measured *** results show that the proposed models have a smaller Root Mean Squared Error than other models developed in the literature for all weather conditions,which confirms the reliability of the proposed framework.

A theoretical analysis of the electricity production of a photovoltaic solar power plant of 22 MW for different sites in Senegal is presented. The study is carried out in two coastal regions (Dakar and Saint-Louis) and two continental regions (Mbacké and Linguère). This study is done using the RET Screen clean energy project management software climate data. The amount of electricity exported to the grid is calculated for each site. The results show that the climatic conditions of the coastal and continental regions are different from November to June. From July to October, which corresponds to the rainy season in Senegal, the climatic conditions of the coastal and continental regions are similar. The results also show that although the efficiency of photovoltaic modules is better on the coast, electricity production varies little from one site to another. Climate conditions in Senegal therefore have no impact on electricity production.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases constitute the deadliest pathology in the world with 31% of global mortality in 2018. This is how we felt it necessary to conduct a study on cardiovascular diseases in emergency units of Senegal, more precisely in Dakar, in order to know epidemiological profile of these patients. Methods: The study setting was the reception and emergency units of the Hôpital de Pikine and Hôpital Principal de Dakar. This was an observational, descriptive cross-sectional study with an analytical aim to search for factors associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular disease. The study ran from January 25th to February 5th, 2018 at the Hôpital de Pikine and from February 25th to March 5th, 2018 at Hôpital Principal de Dakar. The source population consisted of patients over 18 years of age and not in a state of pregnancy, who were been received there and had given their free and informed consent to participate in the survey. A representative sample had drawn and a consecutive recruitment of eligible patients were been carried out. The data collection tools were been based on the WHO STEPwise survey questionnaire. Data collection was been carried out in accordance with ethical rules. Results: The study involved 615 patients. The proportions of sedentary lifestyle, low daily consumption of fruits/vegetables, overweight and obesity were 72.4%, 96.4%, 22.7% and 17.3% respectively. This was 55.5% of women who had a waist circumference that corresponded to a high risk of a cardiovascular event and 10.2% for men. 38.9% of patients had blood pressure above 140/90mmhg and 32.2% said they had never controlled their blood pressure in their life. The use of a consultation in a health structure to control his blood pressure was by far the most frequent modality with 61.4%. The proportion of people with cardiovascular disease was 50.1%. Introduction: Anemia in women of reproductive age is a common health problem in Senegal. The objective of this research was to study the contribution of dietary diversity in the fight against anemia in women of reproductive age in two regions of Senegal using the propensity score method. Methodology: An observational, cross-sectional and analytical study of women of reproductive age and their households was conducted in the Kolda and Kedougou regions in 2015. This was a three-stage random sample survey. The data was collected during an individual interview. Conditional logistic regression was used to identify the risk factor for this anemia. Results: In this study, 1926 women of reproductive age were surveyed. The average age of women of reproductive age surveyed was 27.2 years with a standard deviation of 7.6 years. The median age was 26 years old. Married women were in the majority. Pregnant and lactating women were 43.8%. The percentage of women with adequate diets was 31.5%. The proportion of women with anemia was 51.8%, or 998 women of reproductive age. Adequate dietary diversity is the main factor associated with anemia in these women (OR = 0.75 (0.59 - 0.96)). Conclusion: The prevalence of anemia in women of reproductive age is still high in the southern regions of Senegal. To combat this phenomenon, it is therefore necessary to intensify interventions on the balance of diet, iron and folic acid supplementation in pregnant and lactating women and to strengthen the empowerment of women.

Assessment of Hybrid Concentrated Solar Power-Biomass Plant Generation Potential in Sahel: Case Study of Senegal

Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) is non-existent in Sahel. Such a situation arises from the high investment costs required by these energy infrastructures and from a lack of information on the identification of suitable sites to accommodate them. Conversely, CSP-biomass plants due to lower investment may be an option for CSP penetration in Sahel where Direct Normal Irradiation (DNI) is between 1400 kWh/m2/year and 2000 kWh/m2/year and significant biomass potential. This work presents the results of an identification of suitable sites for hybrid CSP-Biomass in the Sahel, case study of Senegal, taking into account the Direct Normal Irradiation, the availability of water, space and biomass potential. The identified sites have a DNI > 1600 kWh/m2/year. The biogas production capacity is equivalent to 5,096,563 m3/year. The quantity of Typha Australis, invasive plant in Senegal river valley available is estimated at more than 3 million tons. The capacity of electrical energy in this zone is estimated at 6.89 GWe for an installation surface estimated at 275.61 km2. The establishment of CSP/hybrid plants can also contribute to combat the proliferation of Typha Australis.

Study of the Determinants of the Use of Breast Cancer Screening in Women 35 to 65 Years in the Region of Thies (Senegal)

Introduction: In Senegal, breast cancer is the second most common cancer of women after cervical cancer. It is a cancer accessible to clinical and radiological screening. The objective of this study was to study the determinants of the use of breast cancer screening among women aged 35 to 65 in the Thies region in 2015. Material and Methods: It was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. It was conducted with a sample of women selected using a two-stage cluster survey. The study used a questionnaire to collect data on the individual characteristics of women, knowledge, attitudes and practice on breast cancer and quality of care in an individual interview at the homes of women after consent. The data was entered on the Epi Info 3.5.3 software and analyzed with the R 3.3.3 software. A description of qualitative variables across proportions and quantitative variables by mean and standard deviation was performed. Parametric or non-parametric tests were used to examine the association between the dependent variable (breast cancer screening) and explanatory variables (predisposing factors, resources, health needs) according to their applicability conditions and at a risk α equal 5%. Finally, all variables with p less than 0.25 were used to construct an explanatory model by simple logistic regression. Results: The study involved 960 women aged 35 to 65 years. The average age was 43.8 years with a standard deviation of 8.3 years. The rate of breast cancer screening was 25.7%. Educated women (OR adjusted = 1.89 [1.25 - 2.85]), women who resided in urban settings (adjusted OR = 1.79 [1.05 - 3.04]), those who experienced at least one risk factor for breast cancer (OR adjusted = 2.71 [1.81 - 4.06]) were more likely to use screening breast cancer. In contrast, women with low socioeconomic status (adjusted OR = 0.66 [0.45 - 0.97]) were less likely to be screened. Introduction: Relapsed Congenital Talipes Equino Varus (CTEV) refers to clubfoot diagnosed after walking age. We refer to this entity as residual deformities of a previously treated clubfoot or a complete recurrence following treatment. For its treatment, several techniques have been used to improve the foot’s functional outcome while remaining minimally invasive. Correction by distraction using the Ilizarov external fixator is a promising technique. This single-center study aims to evaluate the anatomical and functional outcomes of treatment by distraction and compression with the Ilizarov fixator in relapsed club feet. Patients and Method: We carried out a retrospective, single-center study over 5 years. In total 16 clubfeet in 14 patients, including 9 males and 5 females were retained for final analysis. The average age of the patients at the time of the intervention was 15.16 years. K-wires were placed using the original technique. The average duration of the fixator in our series was 4.27 months. The functional assessment of patients was based on pre-and post-operative evaluation of the Foot and ankle function according to the AOFAS score. Results: Anatomic assessment was done according to the Dimeglio classification. There was a significant improvement at post-operative period with an average score of 4.47 against 10.07 at pre-operative period. We obtained 43.8% good and very good functional outcomes according to the global AOFAS score increasing from 63.07 at pre-operative period to 77.88 at post-operative period. Two cases of reinterventions were recorded. Conclusion: Distraction with the Ilizarov external fixator occupies a place of choice in the management of relapsed club foot. A good mastery of the technique and patient selection produce good functional outcomes.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought changes in behaviour in public places. Indeed, the health and political authorities, in order to fight against the virus in a preventive manner, require the respect of barrier gestures: social distance, mask, vaccine, gel. Still in terms of public health, long waits in a place for a service have a negative impact on the health of fragile categories such as the disabled, pregnant women and the elderly. The technical devices used for queue management must now take into account the health context, identity, particularity and behaviour of people. This paper presents an electronic system developed with artificial intelligence for queue management in public facilities. This design personalises the user’s ticket by automatically integrating the name, facial image, age and possible disability status. At the counters, a system of name calling, sound and screen display, allows users to follow the queue without having a ticket printed on thermal paper with a high carbon footprint. This solution also makes illiterate users autonomous in the queue, allowing them to maintain their dignity and to respect the safety distance between people. The device allows the establishment’s manager, depending on the context, to activate positive discrimination of the disabled or the elderly, to control the Covid-19 mark or the health pass by QR Code. This queue manager performs biometric authentication by facial recognition before the user is registered in the queue register, which prevents fraud by people who do not want to respect the order of arrival of users. This work has led to the improvement of the technical management of queues by introducing more equity, inclusion, solidarity, health and ecology.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed vulnerabilities within our healthcare structures. Healthcare facilities are often faced with staff shortages and work overloads, which can have an impact on the collection of health data and constants essential for early diagnosis. In order to minimize the risk of error and optimize data collection, we have developed a robot incorporating artificial intelligence. This robot has been designed to automate and collect health data and constants in a contactless way, while at the same time verifying the conditions for correct measurements, such as the absence of hats and shoes. Furthermore, this health information needs to be transmitted to services for processing. Thus, this article addresses the aspect of reception and collection of health data and constants through various modules: for taking height, temperature and weight, as well as the module for entering patient identification data. The article also deals with orientation, presenting a module for selecting the patient’s destination department. This data is then routed via a wireless network and an application integrated into the doctors’ tablets. This application will enable efficient queue management by classifying patients according to their order of arrival. The system’s infrastructure is easily deployable, taking advantage of the healthcare facility’s local wireless network, and includes encryption mechanisms to reinforce the security of data circulating over the network. In short, this innovative system will offer an autonomous, contactless method for collecting vital constants such as size, mass, and temperature. What’s more, it will facilitate the flow of data, including identification information, across a network, simplifying the implementation of this solution within healthcare facilities.
