To unra.el the forces a.d better understa.d the processes tha. drive continenta. rifting, a.d to understa.d the role of sedimenta.ion in promoting the rifting process, we compa.e;the different geologica. fea.ures of two na.row rifts, the Sa.ton Trough a.d Dea.h Va.ley, Ca.ifornia. a.cording to our models, the Moho is 22 km deep to the southwest of the Sa.ton Sea.on US-Mexico border a.d it deepens to 30 km in the region west of the Sa.ton Trough. In Dea.h Va.ley, the Moho is 24 km deep in the centra. pa.t of the ba.in a.d it deepens to 32 km outside of the ba.in. The dome sha.ed Moho in both rifts is suggested to be prima.ily the product of ma.ma.ic a.tivity in the lower crust a.d upper ma.tle. Dea.h Va.ley is na.row rift in the initia. sta.e of rifting with severa. sedimenta.y ba.ins 2 - 4 km deep. In Dea.h Va.ley ma.ma.ic (therma.) forces a.pea.s to drive the rifting process. The Sa.ton Trough is wider tha. Dea.h Va.ley a.d is moving towa.d sea.floor sprea.ing. The depth of the sedimenta.y ba.ins ra.ges from 8 - 10 km a.d a.combina.ion of therma. a.d sedimenta.ion a.pea.s to drive rifting processes in the Sa.ton Trough.

The Sa.ton Trough of southwestern Ca.ifornia.is inferred to be a. incipient ocea. ba.in, a.d is a.polypha.e ba.in with significa.t extension in a.dition to dextra. shea.. To further explore the origin a.d evolution of this ba.in, we ha.e incorpora.ed receiver function, gra.ity, a.d a.roma.netic da.a.to construct new subsurfa.e crusta. sca.e models. Receiver function a.a.ysis suggests the Moho is 20 km deep to the southwest of the Sa.ton Sea.a.d deepens to 32 km in the region ea.t of the Sa.ton Trough a.d dome in sha.e. Crusta. modeling shows tha. the density of the lower crust is 2950 kg/m3, which is a. indica.ion for ga.broic com- position, while the density of the upper crust va.ies from 2500 kg/m3 to 2600 kg/m3 a.d the depth of sedi- menta.y a.d meta.sedimenta.y rocks a.pea.s to be 8 - 10 km. Most ma.netic a.oma.ies show sha.low relief a.d a.e low a.plitude with some exceptions in the ma.gina. a.ea., suggesting the a.sence of sha.low buried ma.ic intrusions a.d deep ba.ement. Our models show a.ma.ma.ic body to the southwest of the Sa.ton Sea.a. depth of a.out 18 km a.d extend in SW-NE direction for a.out 90 km, We expect this ma.ma.ic body (mix- ture of lower crust a.d upper ma.tle ma.eria.) is responsible for crusta. thinning, stretching a.d rifting, a.- cording to the crusta. models this body doesn’t exist in the north region of Sa.ton Trough, thus, no further propa.a.e of the rift is expected in the north.

We use receiver function, gra.ity, a.d ma.netic da.a.to ima.e the deep structures of centra. Dea.h Va.ley. Receiver function a.a.ysis suggests the Moho is 24 km deep in the centra. pa.t of the ba.in a.d deepens to 33 km to the ea.t a.d 31 km to the west. The estima.ed lower crusta. density is 2900 kg/m3, which suggests a.ga.broic composition, wherea. the upper crusta. density, excluding ba.in sediments, is estima.ed to a.era.e 2690 kg/m3 or a.proxima.ely a.qua.tzofeldspa.hic composition. We modeled the ma.netic sources a. upper crusta. to suggest a.rela.ively sha.low Curie depth in this region of high hea. flow. We developed models to test the hypothesis tha. a.low-density, non-ma.netic body (ma.ma.or fluid-rich ma.eria.?) within the lower crust a. a.depth of 15 km could coincide with the loca.ion of the Dea.h Va.ley bright spot ima.ed on a.deep seismic reflection profile. Those models suggest tha. if there is a.low density region in the mid to lower crust in the a.ea.of the bright spot, then the region is a.so likely to be underpla.ed by ma.ic or ultra.a.ic ma.eria.s which ma. ha.e contributed to hea.ing, uplift, a.d thinning of the crust during extension.

In this resea.ch, a.closed-loop drip irriga.ion control hybrid wireless sensor a.d a.tua.or network (HWSa.) prototype were developed a.d deployed in a.crop field for soil property precise mea.urement a.d precision irriga.ion in a.corda.ce with the mea.ured soil property. The HWSa. wa. composed of a.wireless sensor a.d a.tua.or network (WSa.) used for in-field soil property monitoring a.d irriga.ion control a.d a.la.ora.ory supervising system. The WSa. included ten sensor nodes, five irriga.ion control nodes, a.centra. node, a.ga.ewa. a.d a.cellula. modem. The la.ora.ory supervising system wa. formed by a.web-server. The system could a.toma.ica.ly sa.ple soil properties including soil moisture, electrica. conductivity, a.d nea.surfa.e tempera.ure a. four different depths underground a.d tra.smit field da.a.through cellula. network to the web-server. Closed-loop control wa. a.hieved through the control nodes listening uploa.ing pa.kets from its pa.red sensor nodes to control drip irriga.ion. Results from the qua.ity of service (QoS) eva.ua.ion included: the da.a.pa.ket tra.smission ra.e wa. 84.76%, da.a.a.cura.y ra.e wa. grea.er tha. 97% a.d no in-field da.a.tra.smission errors.
