Porous photocatalysts are promising materials capable of simultaneously adsorbing and oxidizing/reducing target species,showing great potentials in environmental remediation and energy generation.This review offered a comprehensive overview of the recent progress in design,fabrication,and applications of porous photocatalysts,including carbon-based semiconductors,metal oxides/sulfides,metal–organic frameworks,and adsorbent–photocatalyst hybrids.The fundamental understanding of the structure–performance relationships of porous materials together with the in-depth insights into the synergetic effects between adsorption and photocatalysis was presented.The strategies to further improve the photocatalytic activity of porous photocatalysts were proposed.This review would provide references and outlooks of constructing efficient porous materials for adsorptive and photocatalytic removal of pollutants and energy production.

Dynamic voltage regulation and power export in a distribution system using distributed generation

The major aim of power quality(PQ) enhancing techniques is to maintain a specified voltage magnitude at a desired frequency for sensitive loads irrespective of faults on the power distribution network.The dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) is a device used to mitigate voltage sags to regulate load voltage.This paper presents a mathematical model for leading series voltage injection to mitigate sags thereby achieving the improvement of the utility power factor as well as power sharing between the DVR and utility.The power sharing will be as per requirement to compensate the sags considering the available distributed generation(DG).The approach of mitigating voltage sags using the concept of leading series voltage injection is suitable for those locations where phase shift in the voltage will not cause any problem.The MATLAB/SIMULINK SimPowerSystem toolbox has been used to obtain simulation results to verify the proposed mathematical model.

Sensors based Human Activity Recognition(HAR)have numerous applications in eHeath,sports,fitness assessments,ambient assisted living(AAL),human-computer interaction and many more.The human physical activity can be monitored by using wearable sensors or external devices.The usage of external devices has disadvantages in terms of cost,hardware installation,storage,computational time and lighting conditions dependencies.Therefore,most of the researchers used smart devices like smart phones,smart bands and watches which contain various sensors like accelerometer,gyroscope,GPS etc.,and adequate processing capabilities.For the task of recognition,human activities can be broadly categorized as basic and complex human activities.Recognition of complex activities have received very less attention of researchers due to difficulty of problem by using either smart phones or smart watches.Other reasons include lack of sensor-based labeled dataset having several complex human daily life activities.Some of the researchers have worked on the smart phone’s inertial sensors to perform human activity recognition,whereas a few of them used both pocket and wrist positions.In this research,we have proposed a novel framework which is capable to recognize both basic and complex human activities using builtin-sensors of smart phone and smart watch.We have considered 25 physical activities,including 20 complex ones,using smart device’s built-in sensors.To the best of our knowledge,the existing literature consider only up to 15 activities of daily life.

N-doped graphitic carbon encapsulating cobalt nanoparticles derived from novel metal–organic frameworks for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction

Nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts with hierarchical porous structure are promising oxygen evolution reaction(OER)catalysts due to the faster mass transfer and better charge carrying ability.Herein,an exquisite high nitrogen-containing ligand was designed and readily synthesized from the low-cost biomolecule adenine.Accordingly,three new MOFs(TJU-103,TJU-104 and TJU-105)were prepared using the Co(II)or Mn(II)ions as metal nodes.Through rationally controlling pyrolysis condition,in virtue of the high nitrogen content in well-defined periodic structure of the pristine MOFs,TJU-104–900 among the derived MOFs with hierarchical porous structure,i.e.,N-doped graphitic carbon encapsulating homogeneously distributed cobalt nanoparticles,could be conveniently obtained.Thanks to the synergistic effect of the hierarchical structure and well dispersed active components(i.e.,C=O,Co–Nx,graphitic C and N,pyridinic N),it could exhibit an overpotential of 280 mV@10mA/cm^(2)on carbon cloth for OER activity.This work provides the inspiration for fabrication of nitrogen-doped carbon/metal electrocatalysts from cost-effective and abundant biomolecules,which is promising for practical OER application.
