AIm: To find the CYP1 B1 mutations associated with primary congenital glaucoma(PCG) in Pakistani consanguineous pedigrees. mETHODS: After getting informed consent, 11 consanguineous pedigrees belonging to different ethnic groups were enrolled. Detailed medical history was recorded and pedigrees were drawn. The standard ophthalmological examination was done to characterize the phenotype. Genomic DNA was extracted from 10 mL whole blood and coding exons and exon intron boundaries of CYP1 B1 gene were directly sequenced. Bioinformatics tools were used to model the mutant protein and predict the effect of novel variants on protein structure and function. RESULTS: Sequencing analysis revealed 5 different CYP1 B1 variants in 7 families(7/11; 64%), including two novel variants. A common mutation, p.R390 H was found in four families, whereas p.P437 L was found once in a family. Two novel variants, a homozygous non sense variant p.L13* and a compound heterozygous variant, p.P350 T along with p.V364 m were segregating with PCGin two families. All the patients had the variable onset and severity of the disease. The success rate of early clinical interventions was observed dependent on mutation types and position. Two different haplotypes were associated with frequently found mutation, p.R390 H. CONCLUSION: Identification of novel CYP1 B1 variants reassert the genetic heterogeneity of Pakistani PCG patients. The patients with missense mutations show severe phenotypic presentations and poor vision after surgical interventions as compare to patients with null variants. This may help to better understand the role of CYP1 B1 mutations in the development of PCG and its course of pathogenicity.

For horticultural crops and especially for vegetables, salinity is dilemma. It is the most limiting factor for plant growth and development by producing reactive oxygen species and ultimately oxidative stress. In the present study, the screening of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus Thanb. mavs.) Cultivars was observed for salt tolerance. Four salinity levels (1.5, 3, 4.5, and 6 dS·m-1 NaCl) and six cultivars (Crimson, Charleston Gray, Anarkali, Chairman, Sugar Baby and Champion) tested for screening. It was observed that all morphological attributes and ionic contents were severely affected. But it was revealed by statistical analysis that Charleston Gray was affected least while Champion was most salt sensitive cultivar due to oxidative stress and ionic toxicity. It is concluded that different genotypes under consideration vary in their ability to tolerate salt stress.

Shear wave velocity (Vs) is one of the most important parameters of a geological model to assess the site effect and the ground response. In this paper the spatial variability of shear wave velocity in mashhad capital city are investigated. For this purpose, 243 Vs profiles of different projects throughout the city were used. Based on the Vs profiles the iso-level maps of the Vs interfaces 300, 500, 750, 950 and 1200 m/s were obtained by kriging interpolation method. The best semivariogram models were obtained with changing the effective parameters and assessing the components of the models and spatial dependence. The best models for the entire interfaces were exponential. Based on these models, the spatial dependence of depth data was moderate to strong. The performance of interpolations was checked by cross-validation and its indices?i.e. mean standardized prediction errors (mSPR), root mean square prediction errors (RmSPE), average kriging standard error (AKSE), and root mean square standardized prediction errors (RmSSPE) were assessed. A trend of depth increasing towards the northeast was observed at all of the interfaces.

Influence of Abrasive Waterjet machining Parameters on the Surface Texture Quality of Carrara marble

Abrasive waterjet (AWJ) cutting technology has been used extensively for the cutting and processing of almost all engineering materials because of its precise cutting technique and the lack of damage caused. Currently, the use of abrasive waterjet cutting in the natural stone industry is increasing. However, the effectiveness of abrasive waterjet cutting of natural stones is dependent on the rock properties and machine operating parameters. Consequently, this paper presents the influence of abrasive waterjet machining parameters on the surface texture quality of Carrara marble. The results have shown that the abrasive waterjet cutting process offers better cut surface texture quality of Carrara marble under certain parameter conditions as well as being more environmentally-friendly. The stand-off distance shows the opposite effect on both surface roughness and waviness. With a view to reducing the machining costs, every user tries to select the traverse rate of the cutting head to be as high as possible, but results show that increasing the traverse rate always causes a corresponding increase in terms of inaccuracy, surface roughness, Ra ≈ 93.7 μm, and waviness, Wa ≈ 92.6 μm. The abrasive mass flow rate is not a significant parameter during the cutting process. In all investigations, it was found that the machined surface of the marble is smoother near the jet entrance, Ra ≈ 4 μm, and waviness, Wa ≈ 5 μm, and increasingly becomes rougher towards the jet exit. The result also shows that the micro-hardness value of the Carrara marble was in the range of 122 HV to 124 HV.

An effective and simple screening technique for identification of salt tolerant and salt sensitive radish genotypes was observed. Sand is used as potting media. Six genotypes of radish were used for screening against four salinity levels (0, 1, 3, 5 and 7 dS/m-1). Twenty days old seedlings of radish were salinized with salt solution (NaCl). morphological, physiological and ionic parameters were studied. Radish genotypes Laal-Pari and 40 Days executed the best performance in all the measured attributes and categorized as salt tolerant genotype while Green Neck was the poorest in retaining normal functioning at higher salinity levels thus grouped under salt sensitive cultivar.

Study on the Link between Lead Exposure and Hematological, Psychological, and memorial Parameters in Automobile Repair Workers

In the surrounding environment, lead (Pb) can be released by repairing some parts of automobile engine and radiators repair works. Lead is very well-known as a neurotoxicant as some links exist between blood lead level (BLL) and neurological outcomes. This cross sectional study was performed on 35 male workers who were 23 - 40 and worked in an automobile repair shop located in an industrial part of Tehran. Clinical evidences were recorded by a questionnaire. Subjects had given their blood samples between 7 and 8 a.m. before going to work. The levels of hematological parameters were measured and the amount of lead in plasma samples was determined by graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The Iranian versions of mood state and Wechsler memory questionnaire were applied in order to evaluate mood and memory impairment. The association between variables was studied using Pearson correlation coefficient. A positive correlation was seen between workers’ history on one side and, urinary frequency and restlessness on the other side. There was not any meaningful relationship between worker history, blood parameters, and mood state. A negative meaningful relationship existed between the workers’ history and visual memory. Also a positive significant relationship was observed between BLL and epigastric pain and there was a negative relationship between BLL and repeat number. There was not a significant relationship between BLL, blood parameters, and mood state as well. It was concluded that work practices in the automobile repair shop seemed to increase the body burden of lead and may pose a health risk to the workers.

We present structural,magnetic and optical characteristics of Zn_（1-x）Tm_xTe（Tm = mn,Fe,Co,Ni and x = 6.25%）,calculated through Wien2 k code,by using full potential linearized augmented plane wave（FP-LAPW） *** optimization of the crystal structures have been done to compare the ferromagnetic（Fm） and antiferromagnetic（AFm） ground state energies,to elucidate the ferromagnetic phase stability,which further has been verified through the formation and cohesive ***,the estimated Curie temperatures T_c have demonstrated above room temperature ferromagnetism（RTFm） in Zn_（1-x）Tm_xTe（Tm =mn,Fe,Co,Ni and x= 6.25%）.The calculated electronic properties have depicted that mn- and Co-doped ZnTe behave as ferromagnetic semiconductors,while half-metallic ferromagnetic behaviors are observed in Fe- and Ni-doped *** presence of ferromagnetism is also demonstrated to be due to both the p-d and s-d hybridizations between the host lattice cations and Tm *** calculated band gaps and static real dielectric constants have been observed to vary according to Penn＇s *** evaluated band gaps lie in near visible and ultraviolet regions,which make these materials suitable for various important device applications in optoelectronic and spintronic.
