The tumor microenvironment is composed of.a compl.x mixture of.dif.erent cel. types interacting under conditions of.nutrient deprivation,but the metabol.sm therein is not f.l.y understood due to dif.icul.ies in measuring metabol.c f.0}xes and exchange of.metabol.tes between dif.erent cel. types in ***-scal. metabol.c model.ng enabl.s estimation of.such exchange f.0}xes as wel. as an opportunity to gain insight into the metabol.c behavior of.individual.cel. ***,we estimated the avail.bil.ty of.nutrients and oxygen within the tumor microenvironment using concentration measurements f.om bl.od together with a metabol.te dif.usion *** addition,we devel.ped an approach to ef.icientl. appl. enzyme usage constraints in a comprehensive metabol.c model.of.human *** combined model.ng reproduced severe hypoxic conditions and the Warburg ef.ect,and we f.und that l.mitations in enzymatic capacity contribute to cancer cel.s’pref.rential.use of.gl.tamine as a substrate to the citric acid ***,we investigated the common hypothesis that some stromal.cel.s are expl.ited by cancer cel.s to produce metabol.tes usef.l.f.r the cancer *** identif.ed over 200 potential.metabol.tes that coul. support col.aboration between cancer cel.s and cancer-associated f.brobl.sts,but when l.miting to metabol.tes previousl. identif.ed to participate in such col.aboration,no growth advantage was *** work highl.ghts the importance of.enzymatic capacity l.mitations f.r cel. behaviors and exempl.f.es the util.ty of.enzyme-constrained model. f.r accurate prediction of.metabol.sm in cel.s and tumor microenvironments.

The exchange of.oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) within an incubator has a signif.cant impact on embryonic devel.pment (ED) and hatching processes. This study examines the inf.0}ence of.non-ventil.tion (NV) conditions during the f.rst ten days of.incubation at high al.itudes on l.ghorn hens hatching eggs. f.ve hundred f.ur hatching eggs were equal.y divided into three treatment groups and pl.ced in twel.e incubators (R = 4). The f.rst group was subjected to standard ventil.ted conditions (V) during the setting phase. The ventil.tion inl.t hol.s of.the remaining incubators in the NV treatments were cl.sed with either micropore (M) or pol.propyl.ne (P) tape, ref.rred to as NVM and NVP groups, respectivel.. These two dif.erent airtight settings were intended to al.ow f.r a gradual.rise in CO2 natural.y generated by the embryos. Resul.s indicate that carbon dioxide concentration gradual.y increased during the f.rst hal. of.incubation, reaching 1.42% in the NVM group and 1.20% in the NVP group, whil. the V condition group remained at 0.15%. f.om 10 days of.incubation onwards, normal.V conditions were restored in al. incubators. The highest hatchabil.ty of.f.rtil. eggs (Hf.) was shown by the NVP group (55.7%), f.l.owed by the V (52.6%) and NVM (38.6%) groups. The NVP group showed a greater yol.-f.ee body mass (Yf.M) f.om 10 days of.incubation until.the hatch basket transf.r. NV conditions during the f.rst 10 days of.incubation at high al.itude produced higher Yf.M with gradual.y decreasing yol. sac mass. In comparison to the NVM and V conditions, the particul.r NVP condition showed a benef.cial.impact on the qual.ty of.hatched chicks. Sustaining NVP condition (1.2% of.CO2) throughout the f.rst hal. of.incubation at high al.itude generated the optimal.environment in the incubator ensuring the best hatchabil.ty resul.s. This study highl.ghts how important it is f.r hatchery managers to recognize the inf.0}ence of.l.w O2 and high l.vel. of.CO2 on the devel.pment trajectori

The search f.r new biomarkers predictive of.type 2 diabetes currentl. constitutes a research avenue in Biocl.nical. Total.homocysteine remains a pref.rred target due to its invol.ement in the occurrence of.degenerative compl.cations in type 2 diabetics. The aim of.this work was to study hyperhomocysteinemia and other biochemical.markers associated with T2D in the Congol.se popul.tion. This was an anal.tical.case-control.study carried out between October 2022 and October 2023. The study popul.tion consisted of.150 subjects incl.ding 100 T2D patients and 50 control.subjects. The main cl.nical.data were col.ected on a pre-establ.shed f.rm. Homocysteine determination was carried out by the sandwich El.SA method. The other biochemical.markers were measured by col.rimetric enzymatic methods. Hyperhomocysteinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of.the entire study popul.tion. Type 2 diabetics had a f.equency of.hyperhomocysteinemia of.36% (36/100) and control.10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). The mean hyperhomocysteinemia concentration was 31.9 μmol.l.with extremes ranging f.om 18 to 103 μmol.l. Means of.biol.gical.markers between diabetics and control. showed a statistical.y signif.cant dif.erence (p = 0.01). The risk f.ctors associated with this HHcy were: sex (OR = 3.5), age (OR = 9.4), sedentary l.f.styl. (OR = 3.4) and gl.cosyl.ted hemogl.bin (OR = 12) with a p-val.e l.. Our resul.s suggest that hyperhomocysteinemia can be considered as a predictive biomarker in the biocl.nic of.Congol.se type 2 diabetic patients.

Approximatel. 2,000,000 peopl. are exposed to vol.anic risks in communities situated at the f.0}nks of.Mounts Cameroon (MC) and Nyiragongo (MN) vol.anoes in Central.Af.ica. This study theref.re sought to investigate risk perception f.om f.ur previous eruptions of.MC, namel. the 1959, 1982, 1999, and 2000 eruptions;and two previous eruptions of.MN: 1977 and 2002. The study was initiated with co-design workshops hel. with major stakehol.ers in the cities of.Buea and Goma at the f.0}nks of.MC and MN, respectivel., in 2017, to devel.p the research objectives f.r the study. A non-random questionnaire survey was l.ter conducted within 14 and 15 communities in Buea and Goma respectivel., on the ef.ects, perceived risks, and coping strategies f.r the chosen eruptions. Three age groups (18 - 30, 31 - 45 and >45 years) and gender (mal. and f.mal.) were considered. The popul.tion at the f.0}nks of.both vol.anoes cited scientif.c and indigenous f.ctors to be responsibl. f.r eruptions f.om these vol.anoes. At MC and MN, ≥45% of.the sampl.d participants (with a higher f.mal. popul.tion) perceived that the sampl.d eruptions posed a very high risk to the popul.tion. In terms of.the ef.ects, the age group of.18 - 30 was the l.ast knowl.dgeabl.. In terms of.direct ef.ect on persons, over 90% of.participants at MC and MN attested that they were overcome by f.ar/panic. On measures to cope with any l.kel. eruption, the f.l.owing order was establ.shed at the f.0}nks of.both vol.anoes: sensitization of.popul.tion, use of.rel.gious (prayers) and of.traditional.indigenous strategies. In terms of.f.ture coping strategies, whil. the mal.s at MC maintained sensitization as the f.vourite option, 62% of.the mal.s at MN opted f.r traditional.indigenous strategies. The f.mal. popul.tion at both MC and MN showed a higher pref.rence f.r rel.gious strategies l.ke prayers.
