The paper discusses the importance of computer as a supporting approach in architecture. This approach is expected to foster the students＇ design skills in design studios. The approach is an educational tool for tutors that could guide the students and increase their creativity in their design. It considers the concepts and the practice of digital architectural design that influence architectural education. The approach is a catalyst for creativity, experimentation, critical thinking and the sustained growth of creative communities. The core of design studio is the notions, methods and skills of digital architectural design. The instruments used for this research was an investigation that made for the work of the fourth year students designs at the architectural department at University of Jordan, by testing design process and product of students＇ work： first using manual skills, and then using computer-aided programs. The results revealed that the computer-based design approach was able to foster students＇ design skills as well as to develop their creativity in design. Ninety-one percent of 44 students were found improved in design process using computer-based approach that depends on computer programs. This was done in design studio by improving students＇ way of thinking, developing their abilities to direct their own learning and pushing them for new definitions in developing their future work.

Background: The present study was undertaken to investigate the patterns of drug and antibiotics prescribing in a teaching hospital in Cairo, Egypt. Aim: to determine the impact of interventions on such trends in an attempt to rationalize drug use. Method: 1200 prescriptions and patients' records covering the months of January to December, 2011. Prescribing patterns were analyzed using WHO guidelines with regard to prescribing, patient care and health facility indicators. The same parame-ters were again assessed after distributing antibiotic guidelines and holding workshops activities directed towards rational drug use. Results: The number of hospital visits resulting in a prescription was significantly reduced from 94% to 86% (P-value <0.05) and in both cases none of the en-counters contained a generic drug. The average number of drugs per encounter was 2.7 and did not decrease significantly after intervention. A significant reduction was achieved in the number of prescriptions with antibiotics whereas reduction in encounters with injectable drugs was not statis-tically significant. Penicillins was the most commonly prescribed class of antibiotics and amoxicillin was the most frequently prescribed antibiotic. A significant reduction was observed in both en-counters with penicillin and the total of those with antibiotics. Analysis of prescriptions with anti-biotics revealed that penicillins, cephalosporins and erythromycin comprised 94% and 97% of all antibiotics prescribed before and after interventions respectively. Conclusion: The present results clearly indicated that interventions including distribution of antibiotic guidelines and running workshops and seminars on rational drug use to prescribers can lead to significant improvement in prescribing behavior.

20世纪80年代以来,外商直接投资(FDI)已成为全球经济发展的一个重要组成部分,对各国经济快速增长具有重要的推动作用。自2001年开始,桑给巴尔政府已采取各种措施,加强对经济改革进程,桑给巴尔政府为吸引外资,专门成立了“桑给巴尔投资促进委员会(ZIPA)”,具体的投资项目由桑给巴尔自由经济区管理局(ZAFREZA)及桑给巴尔自由港管理局(ZFPA)负责承接。本文针对桑给巴尔的外商直接投资环境进行分析,在系统梳理国内外相关理论的基础上,结合本文的相关内容来阐述桑给巴尔的外商投资环境,并从桑给巴尔FDI规模演变入手,分析桑给巴尔利用FDI的总体发展状况,在此基础上,重点分析桑吉巴尔外商投资的区位分布于产业分布状况。最后,针对桑给巴尔外商直接投资的现在及问题,提出相关的政策建议,更好地促进该国经济发展。

Assessment of Resource-Use Efficiency in Irrigated Rice Production in Dadinkowa, Gombe State, Nigeria

The study examined the levels of resource-use efficiency of rice farmers unde,r irrigation method in Dadinkowa, Gombe state of Nigeria. Using questionnaire, data were collected during the year 2010 irrigation season from 120 randomly sampled rice irrigators and the data were analyzed using multiple regression and marginal analyses. Results showed that significant factors influencing irrigated rice production were labour （P 〈 0.001）, land and fertilizer （P 〈 0.01）. In addition, the coefficient of determination （R2）, the F-ratio and the standard error of the mean （S） were found to be 0.471, 16.37＊＊＊ and 8.908, respectively. The results also indicated that efficiency values of land, seeds, fertilizer and labour were 1.234, 0.498, 2.352 and 1.620, respectively. Finally, it was found that resource-use among the farmers were not efficient thus equipment, land, fertilizer and labour inputs shall be increased by 78.3%, 18.9%, 57.5% and 38.3%, respectively, while seed input shall be reduced by 50.2% for the farmers to attain optimal resource utilization.

There exists a growing demand for potable water resources to fill the abysmally insufficient water needs for domestic and industrial especially in the Basement Complex terrains of Nigeria. This situation is attributable to its complex hydrogeologic character. The present challenge has worsened due to the non-incorporation of integrated methods in groundwater exploration campaigns. To effectively combat the challenge of unacceptable failure rates in drilled water well development, there is a need for innovative scientific principles and quantitative assessment of groundwater resources to enhance sustainable and proper utilisation of these resources. Hence, it is the objective of this research to exploit the potential application of remote sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) techniques and freely open datasets in mapping groundwater potential zones. Seven thematic maps have been produced based on factors that are deemed to influence and deemed to have significant control on the occurrence and movement of groundwater. These factors are geology, lineament density, slope, drainage density, rainfall, land-use/land cover, and soil class. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to assign normalised weights to the thematic maps based on the various relative contributions to groundwater occurrence and movement. These thematic maps were then processed in a GIS environment using the Weighted Overlay tool which implements the MCDA. The resulting Groundwater Potential Zones (GPZ) of the area gave rise to Five classes viz: Very good, Good, Moderate, Poor and Very Poor representing 19%, 8%, 14%, 47% and 13% respectively. It is recommended that the GPZ map should be used as a reconnaissance tool for selecting prospective sites for detailed groundwater resource exploitation.

Acute and Mid-Term Results after Pulmonary Veins Isolation Using a Novel Circular Irrigated Multielectrode Mapping and Ablation Catheter (nMARQ)

Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is the cornerstone of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation in both paroxysmal and persistent AF. However, this procedure is still challenging and time consuming. Objective: The aim of this study was to present our approach for PVI using a novel circular irrigated multielectrode mapping and ablation catheter (nMARQTM) and to present acute and mid-term results. Methods: The study included 31 consecutive patients with symptomatic AF (4 had persistent and 27 had paroxysmal AF) who underwent PVI using the nMARQTM catheter. Circular ablation was guided by CT image integrated into fast anatomical map and by intra cardiac echo. Isolation of pulmonary veins was identified using the nMARQTM catheter if it was possible to advance it into the veins, otherwise Lasso catheter was used. Patients were followed up to 20 months. Results: PVI was achieved in 119 (98%) out of 121 pulmonary veins identified, and final PVI was obtained in 30 (97%) out of 31 patients. Lasso catheter was needed for PVI confirmation in 16 (52%) patients. Touch up ablation using standard catheter guided by Lasso catheter was needed in 4 (13%) patients. Pericardial tamponade occurred in 1 patient who was treated with pericardiocentesis. No other major complications were detected. During follow-up (mean 15.9 ± 3.6 months, range 9 - 20 months), 4 (13%) patients had recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia. Conclusion: PVI using the novel nMARQTM catheter is safe with good acute and mid-term efficacy. Long term follow up trials are needed.

Natural gas (NG) is one of the most important sources of energy for industrial and domestic consumption in the present era because it is cheap and free from sulfur impurities. Therefore, accurate and precise measurement of its composition is of fundamental importance for trade reasons. To improve the quality of NG gas measurements, certified reference materials (CRMs) should be used for calibration of measuring equipment in order to ensure the traceability of the measurement results to the SI units. For the traceability purpose, a multicomponent natural gas mixture was prepared gravimetrically as a reference material according to ISO 6142 from pure helium, hydrogen, n-pentane, i-pentane, n-butane, i-butane, propane, ethane, hexane, methane and nitrogen. The preparation was done in two dilution steps in 5 L aluminum cylinders. The calculated mole fractions and associated uncertainties of natural gas components were verified by a dual GC-FID/TCD system in accordance with ISO 6143 calibrated by a series of primary gas mixtures (CRMs) produced by an NMI. The results obtained by gravimetry and by GC measurements have been checked for compatibility as required by ISO 6142 and were found in very good agreement. Details of the preparation and calculation of the mole fractions and uncertainties of all gas components are explained in this article.

Pattern matching is a very important topic in computer science. It has been used in various applications such as information retrieval, virus scanning, DNA sequence analysis, data mining, machine learning, network security and pattern recognition. This paper has presented a new pattern matching algorithm—Enhanced ERS-A, which is an improvement over ERS-S algorithm. In ERS-A, two sliding windows are used to scan the text from the left and the right simultaneously. The proposed algorithm also scans the text from the left and the right simultaneously as well as making comparisons with the pattern from both sides simultaneously. The comparisons done between the text and the pattern are done from both sides in parallel. The shift technique used in the Enhanced ERS-A is the four consecutive characters in the text immediately following the pattern window. The experimental results show that the Enhanced ERS-A has enhanced the process of pattern matching by reducing the number of comparisons performed.

Levels of Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from sediments collected in July 2017, a week after tanks oil leak in the bay of Wesha Peninsular, Pemba Island are reported. Four sampling points were chosen alongside the mangroves where a total of twenty samples were collected during the low tides. Eight PAHs were detected with concentrations ranging from ND to 53.42 ng/g (dw). Total PAHs in sediments was 158.38 ng⋅g-1. Phenanthrene residues (lower molecular weight) were dominant followed by pyrene (higher molecular weight PAHs) accounting for 90% and 40% detection frequencies, respectively. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in the concentrations of PAHs among sites (p < 0.05, ANOVA). Vertical distribution of PAHs shows no definite patterns with sediment depth, however, composition patterns of PAHs along sediment depth indicate that higher molecular weight PAHs tend to remain in middle layer (2 - 4 cm). The results advocate the needs of proper monitoring to avoid the possible consequences to the public health.

Milk is one of the very important nutrients of human diet. The presence of toxic elements in milk may threaten the public health. This study reports the levels of Cadmium (Cd), Cobalt (Co) and Lead (Pb) in raw cow’s milk collected from different areas of Zanzibar Island during March - May 2016. The samples of raw milk were analyzed by Thermo Scientific-Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer for quantitative determination of the metals in the matrix. The concentration of Co in this study ranged from ND at Mwanakwerekwe (MK1 and MK2) to a maximum of 0.004 mg/L at Mshelishelini (MS5) and Fuoni (F5) sites with mean concentration of 0.020 ± 0.003 mg/L for all sites. Concentration of Pb ranged between 0.05 - 0.51 mg/L at Fuoni (F7) and Mwanakwerekwe (MK1) respectively, with mean concentration of 0.263 ± 0.031 mg/L for all sites. However, Cd was only detected in one sample collected at Fuoni (F3) with a concentration of 0.001 mg/L. The results revealed that cow’s milk is contaminated with toxic metals, particularly Pb which exceeded the WHO maximum permissible level of 0.02 mg/L. The study furthermore sheds light on possible consequences to public health. It is recommended that, stakeholders especially in Zanzibar such as Zanzibar Food and Drug Authorities (ZFDA) and Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS) as well as researchers, use the findings of this study for policy making, future study plans, formulation of technical strategies to control milk contamination, risk assessment and develop new alternative methods to measure milk contamination even at a low detection limit for the sake of the consumers’ welfare before posing any serious effects to their health.
