Association between preterm birth risk and polymorphism and expression of the DNA repair genes OGG1 and APE1 in Saudi women

Genomic instability and mutations caused by increases in oxidative stress during pregnancy can damage the fetoplacental unit and can upshot preterm *** damage to DNA may possibly be involved in etiology of preterm birth(PTB)which can be repaired by DNA repair *** the present study,we assessed the association of base excision repair gene family by analyzing the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms and genes expression in 8-oxoguanine glycosylase-1(OGG1)and apurinic-apyrimidinic endonuclease 1(APE1)genes with risk of preterm birth in Saudi *** analyzed genotypes of four single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)(rs1052133,rs293795,rs2072668 and rs2075747)in OGG1 gene and three SNPs(rs1130409,rs3136814,and rs3136817)in APE1 gene using TaqMan Genotyping assay kits in 50 pairs of preterm cases and individually matched ***,gene expression level was explored by RT-PCR in 10 pairs of preterm placental tissues and individually matched normal placental *** OGG1 SNP,rs1052133(OR=0.497;c2=1.11;p=0.292)and rs2072668(OR=0.408;c2=1.90;p=0.167)and one APE1 SNP rs3136817(OR=0.458;c2=0.40;p=0.527)showed nonsignificant protective effect against PTB *** expression of both genes under study was found lower in the PTB *** and allele frequencies of both gene SNPs did not show any association with the risk of preterm delivery in Saudi women(P˃0.05).However,synthesis and release of OGG1 and APE1 proteins decreased in preterm placental tissues compared to term delivery reflects the probability of being one of the mechanisms leading to preterm birth.

Multi-Task Learning Model with Data Augmentation for Arabic Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis

Aspect-based sentiment analysis(ABSA)is a fine-grained *** fundamental subtasks are aspect termextraction(ATE)and aspect polarity classification(APC),and these subtasks are dependent and closely ***,most existing works on Arabic ABSA content separately address them,assume that aspect terms are preidentified,or use a pipeline *** solutions design different models for each task,and the output from the ATE model is used as the input to the APC model,which may result in error propagation among different steps because APC is affected by ATE *** methods are impractical for real-world scenarios where the ATE task is the base task for APC,and its result impacts the accuracy of ***,in this study,we focused on a multi-task learning model for Arabic ATE and APC in which the model is jointly trained on two subtasks simultaneously in a *** paper integrates themulti-task model,namely Local Cotext Foucse-Aspect Term Extraction and Polarity classification(LCF-ATEPC)and Arabic Bidirectional Encoder Representation from Transformers(AraBERT)as a shred layer for Arabic contextual text *** LCF-ATEPC model is based on a multi-head selfattention and local context focus mechanism(LCF)to capture the interactive information between an aspect and its ***,data augmentation techniques are proposed based on state-of-the-art augmentation techniques(word embedding substitution with constraints and contextual embedding(AraBERT))to increase the diversity of the training *** paper examined the effect of data augmentation on the multi-task model for Arabic *** experiments were conducted on the original and combined datasets(merging the original and augmented datasets).Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed Multi-task model outperformed existing APC *** results were obtained by AraBERT and LCF-ATEPC with fusion layer(AR-LCF-ATEPC-Fusion)and the proposed data augmentation

Dental profession, where does it stand in the head and neck cancer team

The head and neck region is a complex area composed of several dissimilar structures。Cancers in this region are treated with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy or a combination of the three modalities。Due to the fact that there are increasing number of aged and dentate patients that are being treated for oral cancer and to the fact that patients are expecting more from the dental profession with respect to the quality of life which affects their eating, appearance and speech, we are faced with the challenge of providing dental rehabilitation and follow up for this group of patients。At King Hussein cancer Centre we have a head and neck cancer clinic that started in 2003, during the past five years we treated 502 head and neck cancer patients, both adults and paediatrics。These cancers included oral cavity, salivary tumors, sinuses, nasopharyngeal, mandibular and cancers of unknown origin。Many oral problems were encountered ranging from tumor recurrence, restricted mouth opening, radiation caries, xerostomia, osteoradionecrosis and others。Conclusion: It is mandatory to have a well trained dental oncologist among the head and neck team, for timely and proper dental treatment planning and follow up, as well as collaboration between the various medical specialities to ensure early referral to dental clinics。We also believe in the importance of educating these patients about the nature of their disease, complications and the difficulty and time consuming process of dental treatment in this disease。
