Comparison of three PCR methods for detection of Helicobacter pylori DNA and detection of cagA gene in gastric biopsy specimens

AIM:To comparatively evaluate PCR and other diagnostic methods (the rapid urease test and/or culture) in order to determine which of the three PCR methods (ureA,glmM and 26-kDa,SSA gene) was most appropriate in the diagnosis of Helicobacterpylori(Hpylori) infection and also to evaluate the detection of a putative virulence marker of H pylori,the cage,gene,by PCR in biopsy specimens. METHODS:One hundred and eighty-nine biopsy specimens were collected from 63 patients (three biopsies each) undergoing upper gastroduodenal endoscopy for various dyspeptic *** PCR methods used to detect H pylori DNA directly from biopsies were the glmM,26-kDa, ureA and then cagA was used to compare the culture technique and CLO for urease with the culture technique being used as the gold standard. RESULTS:Thirty-five percent of the biopsies were positive for H pylori DNA using the 3 PCR methods,while 68% of these were positive for the cagA ***-four percent of the biopsies were negative for H pylori DNA in all PCR methods *** remaining 41% were either positive for ureA gene only,glmM only,26-kDa only,or ureA+glmM, ureA+26-kDa,glmM+*** of the 35% positive biopsies,41% and 82% were positive by culture and CLO respectively,while all negative biopsies were also negative by culture and *** A+ infection was also predominantly found in H pylori DNA of the biopsies irrespective of the clinical diagnosis. CONCLUSION:This method is useful for correctly identifying infections caused by H pylori and can be easily applied in our laboratory for diagnostic purposes.

This study investigates the properties of exciton-polaritons in a two-dimensional(2D)hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite microcavity in the presence of optical Stark *** both steady and dynamic state analyses,strong coupling between excitons of perovskite and cavity photons is revealed,indicating the formation of polaritons in the perovskite ***,it is found that an external optical Stark pulse can induce energy shifts of excitons proportional to the pulse intensity,which modifies the dispersion characteristics of the polaritons.

2015年9月联合国大会第70/1号决议通过2030年可持续发展议程。议程宣布了 17项全球可持续发展目标(SDGs),旨在通过综合解决当前社会、经济和环境层面的发展问题,促进全球可持续发展。可持续发展目标1(消除贫困)、2(零饥饿)和14(水下生命)与渔业密切相关。渔业资源的可持续发展和管理是渔业高质量发展的基础。马德拉沙丁鱼(Sardinella maderensis)是塞拉利昂近海重要经济鱼种。进入21世纪以来,马德拉沙丁鱼的渔业资源明显减少,体型小型化日益明显。因此,了解马德拉沙丁鱼的生物学和种群特征,科学制定开捕规格、最大持续产量和禁渔期等管理策略至关重要。利用2017年现场调查数据,从体长-体重关系、个体生长方程等方面分析了沙丁鱼的生长特征;从瞬时死亡率、开发率、单位补充量渔获量等方面分析了渔业资源的动态变化;在分析鱼类繁殖习性和繁殖力的基础上,模拟了禁捕策略。结果如下:(1)生长特征:塞拉利昂近海马德拉沙丁鱼的体长-体重关系为W=6×10-5L2.6157,Von Bertalanffy 生长方程为 Lt=396[1-e-0.29(t+0.47)];Wt=374.1[1-e-0.29(t+0.47)]2.6157。体重生长的拐点年龄为2.84龄,拐点体长为244.4mm,拐点体重为218.2g。(2)种群特征:塞拉利昂近海马德拉沙丁鱼群体的瞬时总死亡率(Z)、瞬时自然死亡率(M)、瞬时捕捞死亡率(F)和开发率分别为2.97 a-1、0.7096 a-1、2.258 a-1和0.761。群体的临界年龄为2.29龄,临界体长为218.2mm,临界体重为78.7g。资源生物量为128,277.79 t。在当前资源利用状态下(即Lc=135 mm时),获得最适产量、最大持续产量和最大产量对应的开发率分别为E0.1=0.507,E0.5=0.316 and Emax=0.602均小于当前开发率(E=0.7609),渔业资源处于过度利用状态;(3)休渔期:运用ERR和SBR模型模拟了四种管理策略对EPR和SBR值的影响,结果表明:采用策略1时(休渔期为4-5月,当前休渔策略),EPR值占理论未开发时的18.2%,SBR值占理论未开发时的18.1%;采用策略2时(休渔期为2-4月),EPR值占理论未开发时的59.8%;SBR值占理论未开发时的27.4%;采用策略3时(休渔期为8-10月),EPR值占理论未开发时的40.4%;SBR值占理论未开发时的21.4%;采用策略4时(休渔期为4月和10月),EPR值占理论未开发时的30.8%;SBR值占理论未开发时的16.9%。综合考虑后建议塞拉利昂海域马德拉沙丁鱼的休渔期为2月至4月。

Circulation of the low pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N2 virus in ducks at a live bird market in Ibadan, Nigeria

Background:To monitor carrier hosts of avian influenza in Nigeria,we randomly collected cloaca swab specimens from 155 ducks at a live bird market(LBM)in Ibadan,southwest Nigeria,between July 2011 and July ***:The samples were analyzed by real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)and virus isolation was carried out in embryonated chicken *** sequencing of the antigenic cleavage site of the haemagglutinin(HA)gene was performed,multiple sequence alignment was carried out using ClustalW,and a phylogenetic tree was constructed using the neighbor joining ***:Twenty(13%)of the 155 samples were positive for avian influenza subtype H5N2 by real-time RT-PCR and three isolates were obtained from embryonated chicken *** sequencing of the amino acid cleavage site of the HA genes of two isolates corresponded to a PQRETGL*F sequence that is common in low pathogenic avian influenza(LPAI).Phylogenetically,the HA genes of the two influenza viruses are monophyletic and clustered with H5N2 viruses detected in wild ducks from ***:The occurrence of LPAI in domestic ducks in Nigeria underscores the importance of continuous surveillance and monitoring of the virus(in a country that is considered to be free of avian influenza)in order to prevent the emergence of virulent strains that may spread to commercial poultry and humans.

A new approach to the surgical treatment of parasitic cysts of the liver:Hepatectomy using the liver hanging maneuver

AIM： To review 11 patients with parasitic cysts of the liver, who were treated by hepatic Iobectomy using the liver hanging maneuver （LHM）.METHODS： Between January 2003 and June 2006, we retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent surgical treatment due to parasitic cysts of the liver, at the Ege University School of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. Of these, the patients who underwent hepatic lobectomy using the LHM were reviewed and evaluated for surgical treatment outcome.RESULTS： Over a three-year period, there were 102 patients who underwent surgical treatment for parasitic cysts of the liver. Of these, 11 （10%） patients with parasitic cysts of the liver underwent hepatic Iobectomy using the LHM. Presenting symptoms were abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and cholangitis. Cyst locations were as follows： right lobe filled with cyst, 7 （63%）; segmental location, 2 （18%）; and multiple locations, 2 patients （18%）. All patients underwent hepatic Iobectomy with an anterior approach using the LHM. The intraoperative blood transfusion requirement was one unit for 3 patients and two units for one patient. Postoperative complications included pulmonary atelectasy （2, 18%） and pleural effusion （2, 18%）. No significant morbidity or mortality was observed.CONCLUSION： We concluded that hepatic Iobectomy using the LHM should be considered, not only for hepatic tumors or donor hepatectomy, but also to treat parasitic cysts of the liver.

BACKGROUND： Hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） is a com- plex and heterogeneous malignancy, frequently occurs in the setting of a chronically diseased organ, with multiple con- founding factors making its management challenging. HCC represents one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortal- ity globally with a rising trend of incidence in some of the de- veloped countries, which indicates the need for better surgical and nonsurgical management strategies.

Mass-transfer studies of solid-base catalyst-aided CO_(2) absorption and solid-acid catalyst-aided CO_(2) desorption for CO_(2) capture in a pilot plant using aqueous solutions of MEA and blends of MEA-MDEA and BEA-AMP

Mass-transfer studies of catalyst-aided CO_(2) absorption and desorption were performed in a full-cycle,bench-scale pilot plant to improve CO_(2) absorption using 5M MEA,5M MEA-2M MDEA and 2M BEA-2M AMP.A solid-base catalyst,K/MgO,and an acid catalyst,HZSM-5,were used to facilitate absorption and desorption,*** and desorption mass-transfer performance was presented in terms of the overall mass-transfer coefficient of the gas side(KGav)and liquid side(K_(L)a_(v)),*** non-catalytic runs,the highest K_(G)a_(V) and K_(L)a_(V) were 0.086 Kmol m^(3).*** and 0.7851 hr for 2M BEA-2M AMP *** results showed 38.7% KGav and 23.6% K_(L)a_(v) increase for 2M BEA-2M AMP with only HZSM-5 catalyst in desorber and a 95% K_(G)a_(V) and 45% K_(L)a_(V) increase for both K/MgO catalyst and HZSM-5 *** was attributed to the role of K/MgO in bonding loosely with CO_(2) and making it available for the amine reaction.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a patient with situs inversus totalis

Currently, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an undoubtfully optimal treatment of cholelithiasis. What about performing this procedure on a patient with situs inversus totalis and what are the difficulties of this operation for a right-handed surgeon? We presented a 35-year-old man with unknown situs inversus totalis who was admitted with epigastric pain and digestive problems. Ultrasonography and computed tomography of the abdomen confirmed the diagnosis of a gallstone. Besides, the liver and gallbladder were on the left side and the spleen was on the right. All systems were left-right reversal as mirror image in all diagnostic studies. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was safely performed, despite of difficulties of situs inversus. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 1. It should be considered that existence of other anomalies may easily cause uninvited injuries. In the patients with situs inversus, laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be safely managed by an experienced surgeon through laparoscopy, and also hepatobiliary surgery.

Xanthogranulomatous pancreatitis treated by duodenum-preserving pancreatic head resection

BACKGROUND:Xanthogranulomatosis is an idiopathic,rare process in which lipid-laden histiocytes are deposited at various locations in the *** present two cases who were treated by duodenum-preserving pancreatic head resection and eventually diagnosed as having xanthogranulomatous pancreatitis. METHODS:A 30-year-old caucasian man was admitted to our clinic for vague abdominal pain and epigastric dullness. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic retrograde pancreatography suggested the existence of chronic *** 34-year-old caucasian woman was admitted to our clinic because of right upper quadrant pain. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography demonstrated a dilatation and stone of the main pancreatic *** on a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis,pancreatic head resection was planned and a laparotomy was performed in both of cases. RESULTS:In both cases,duodenum-preserving pancreatic head resection was *** and microscopic findings revealed xanthogranulomatous inflammation,which led to a diagnosis of xanthogranulomatous pancreatitis. CONCLUSION:Although this type of pancreatitis is extremely rare,it is important to keep it in mind for a differential diagnosis because it may simulate chronic pancreatitis or a malignant tumor on imaging.
