Broadband quantum-dot frequency-modulated comb laser

Frequency-modulated(FM)laser combs,which offer a quasi-continuous-wave output and a flat-topped optical spectrum,are emerging as a promising solution for wavelength-division multiplexing applications,precision metrology,and ultrafast optical *** generation of FM combs relies on spatial hole burning,group velocity dispersion,Kerr nonlinearity,and four-wave mixing(FWM).While FM combs have been widely observed in quantum cascade Fabry-Perot(FP)lasers,the requirement for a low-dispersion FP cavity can be a challenge in platforms where the waveguide dispersion is mainly determined by the *** we report a 60 GHz quantum-dot(QD)mode-locked laser in which both the amplitude-modulated(AM)and the FM comb can be generated *** high FWM efficiency of-5 dB allows the QD laser to generate FM comb *** also demonstrate that the Kerr nonlinearity can be practically engineered to improve the FM comb bandwidth without the need for GVD *** maximum 3-dB bandwidth that our QD platform can deliver is as large as 2.2 *** study gives novel insights into the improvement of FM combs and paves the way for small-footprint,electrically pumped,and energy-efficient frequency combs for silicon photonic integrated circuits(PICs).

The architecture and component technology of a low power, high capacity, short reach optical interconnect are detailed. Measurements from high-performance 300 mm silicon photonics components that comprise the system are shown, along with a quantum-dot mode-locked laser 20-channel comb source with free space wall plug efficiencies up to 17%, advanced packaging techniques for 3D silicon photonic-electronic integration, and schematics for integrated electronics that control the photonic integrated circuits. Techniques for operating such a system in the presence of changing ambient temperature are addressed. Experiments on a 1 Tbps design are conducted with an optical link experiment indicating sub-picojoule/bit energy consumption at scale.

Statistical variability and fragility assessment of ballistic perforation of steel plates for 7.62 mm AP ammunition

The paper describes field test results of 7.62×51 mm M61 AP(armour piercing) ammunition fired into mild steel targets at an outdoor *** targets varied from 10 mm to 32 mm in *** tests recorded penetration depth,probability of perforation(i.e.,complete penetration),muzzle and impact velocities,bullet mass,and plate yield strength and *** measured penetration depth exhibited a variability of approximately±12%.The paper then compared ballistic test results with predictive models of steel penetration depth and thickness to prevent *** parameters were derived for muzzle and impact velocity,bullet mass,plate thickness,plate hardness,and model error.A Monte-Carlo probabilistic analysis was then developed to estimate the probability of plate perforation of 7.62 mm M61 AP ammunition for a range of impact velocities,and for mild steels,and High Hardness Armour(HHA) *** perforation fragility analysis considered the random variability of impact velocity,bullet mass,plate thickness,plate hardness,and model *** a probabilistic analysis allows for reliability-based design,where,for example,the plate thickness with 95% reliability(*** 1 in 20 shots will penetrate the wall) can be estimated knowing the probabilistic distribution of ***,it was found that the plate thickness to ensure a low 5% probability of perforation needs to be 11-15% thicker than required to have a 50/50 chance of perforation for mild steel *** would need to be 20-30% thicker if probability of perforation is reduced to zero.

＜正＞The modelling of consequences to built infrastructure when subject to explosive blast loading is well developed;however,considerable uncertainty remains with respect to system response and explosive loading *** the use of probability and structural reliability theory,the uncertainty and variability of system and load parameters can be quantified,leading to quantitative assessments of the security risks associated with blast *** the present paper,structural facades are assessed - as these are structural and load-capacity systems that pose significant safety hazards when effected by blast loads. A new research tool is developed to predict damage and safety hazard risks following blast loading of monolithic *** software tool is called"Blast-RF"（Blast Risks for Facades）.The tool’s structural reliability analysis uses stress limit states and the UK Glazing Hazard Guide’s rating criteria to calculate probabilities of glazing damage and safety hazards conditional on a given blast *** other words,Blast-RF predicts the likelihood and extent of damage or safety hazard for a single window or for an entire building facade. The damage and safety hazard risks associated with annealed monolithic glass are predicted,for TNT and ANFO based *** reliability analysis considers the variability of explosive material energetic output,pressure impulse,glazing stress limit,fragment drag coefficient,glazing dimensions,stand-off distance and explosive *** are presented for glazing in a typical existing multi-storey commercial building.

非洲猪瘟病毒(African Swine Fever Virus,ASFV)是猪的一种强毒型病原体,从2007年起在东欧流行,目前还没有有效的疫苗或治疗方法。ASF病毒是当前的流行毒株,在猪体内带毒和排毒(shedding and excretion)的动力学机理至今尚不清楚。因此,本试验希望通过将易感的家猪与经肌内注射感染ASF病毒格鲁吉亚2007/1毒株的家猪进行接触,以测定ASF病毒在猪栏内和猪栏之间由受感染猪向易感猪进行传播的动力学机理。试验采集了血液、口液、鼻液、肠液(直肠)样本,以通过病毒滴定法和实时定量PCR(q PCR)法检测ASF病毒,利用血清学试验测定ASF病毒特异性抗体。肌内注射和接触传播感染均能造成猪急性发病,不过试验表明因感染途径不同而导致猪的发病机制有所差异。接种感染猪在接种的第3天可在血液中分离到有传染性的ASF病毒,而通过直接接触和间接接触进行感染的猪分别在曝露后第10天和第13天方可从血液中分离到有传染性的ASF病毒。临近出现ASF临床症状时,ASF病毒在血液中的滴度高于在鼻液和肠液中的。口液样本中没有分离到有传染性的ASF病毒,不过ASF病毒的基因组被检测到。只有一头接种感染的猪在接种后第12天检测到ASF病毒特异性抗体。本项试验结果提供了ASF病毒格鲁吉亚2007/1毒株在家猪中带毒和排毒的定量数据,同时表明该毒株引起持续感染的能力有限。
