This paper aims to examine the influence of thermal radiation on magnetohydrodynamics(mHD)convective two-phase flows through the asymmetric divergent channel under first-order velocity and thermal slip *** transformations are used to nondimensionalize the governed partial differential equations and then solved them numerically.A grid-independent test is done to check the consistency of the numerical method and then validated with existing published results in a limiting *** graphical illustrations are provided to explain the impacts of various emerging parameters on flow *** enhancement in particle velocity is observed with an increment in the velocity slip *** the temperature slip parameter improves a decrement in the fluid as well as particle temperature is *** increment in radiation parameter augments fluid *** type of flow has multifarious range applications like fluidized beds,gas cooling systems,polishing heart valves and internal cavities,etc.

Background:Use of phenylephrine for prevention of hypotension following spinal anesthesia in women undergoing caesarean delivery can improve the fetal oxygen supply and demand balance. The authors hypothesized whether the mechanism underlying this is the stable fetal heart rate and metabolism in the fetus compared with ephedrine. methods:Sixty women having elective cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia randomly received ephedrine 4 mg/ml (GroupⅠ) or phenylephrine 50 pg/ml (GroupⅡ) titrated to maintain the systolic blood pressure near baseline. The fetal heart rate, maternal heart rate and maternal blood pressure were measured at various time points after medicine infusion. At delivery, maternal arterial, umbilical arterial, and umbilical venous blood samples were taken for measurement of blood gases and plasma concentrations of lactate and glucose. Results:compared with baselines, fetal heart rate after ephedrine infusion in groupⅠwas significantly increased (P cantly change (P > 0.05). Umbilical arterial and venous pH and base excess were lower in groupⅠthan in groupⅡ(Pcompared with groupⅡ, umbilical arterial plasma concentrations of lactate (median 4.23 [interquartile range 2.28-6.18] vs 2.23 [1.57-2.89] mmol.l^-1, Pmbilical venous concentration of lactate (median and interquartile 3.12 [1.80-4.44] vs 1.78 [1.45-2. 11] mmol.l^-1, P mbilical arterial PcO2, and plasma concentrations of glucose were higher in groupⅠ(P conclusions:compared with ephedrine, the fetal heart rate after phenylephrine infusion maintains stable, which may be one of mechanisms that phenylepbrine can improve fetal acid-based status.

Introduction: Laparoscopic assisted colonoscopic polypectomies have been well described in the literature and are well established in surgical practice, for removal of large, inaccessible, or flat based polyps. Laparoscope allows the endoscopist a serosal viewpoint and thus clear indication of perforation, in addition to enhancing endoscopic positioning through colonic mobilisation, facilitating polypectomy. We describe a previously rarely published technique, in which the colonoscope directs the surgeon to polyps and laparoscopy enables wedge resection of benign polyps using Endo GIA staplers. Using this method, the colonoscope provides an intra-luminal view ensuring adequate excision with margins whilst the laparoscope provides intra-peritoneal access for the wedge resection. methods: This is a case series of 12 patients with large tubulovillous adenomas, found and biopsied at colonoscopy. Under a general anaesthetic, an on table colonoscopy was performed to identify and reassess the polyp, whilst a laparoscopy was performed to excise the polyp via wedge resection, using the endoscopic view as guidance. Results: The polyp was identified and completely resected in our 12 patients. All patients were discharged on the first post-operative day. Of the polyps excised, a focus of adenocarcinoma was detected in one and an adjacent endocrine tumour was found in another patient in histology along with tubulovillous adenoma. Rest were all tubulovillous adenomas only. conclusion: We propose that this technique should be regarded as an alternative to Right hemicolectomies and difficult endoscopic mucosal resections for large adenomas, and be regarded as a definitive and safe procedure in its own right.

Allopatric speciation requiring an unbroken period of geographical isolation has been the standard model of neo-Darwinism. While doubts have been repeatedly raised, strict allopatry without any gene flow remains a plausible mechanism in most cases. To rigorously reject strict allopatry, genomic sequences superimposed on the geological records of a well-delineated geographical barrier are necessary. The Strait of malacca,narrowly connecting the Pacific and Indian Ocean coasts, serves at different times either as a geographical barrier or a conduit of gene flow for coastal/marine species. We surveyed 1700 plants from 29 populations of 5 common mangrove species by large-scale DNA sequencing and added several whole-genome assemblies. Speciation between the two oceans is driven by cycles of isolation and gene flow due to the fluctuations in sea level leading to the opening/closing of the Strait to ocean currents. Because the time required for speciation in mangroves is longer than the isolation phases, speciation in these mangroves has proceeded through many cycles of mixing-isolation-mixing, or mIm, cycles. The mIm mechanism, by relaxing the condition of no gene flow, can promote speciation in many more geographical features than strict allopatry can. Finally, the mIm mechanism of speciation is also efficient, potentially yielding mn(m > 1) species after n cycles.

Substantial population growth in the past decades around Victoria Harbour re- sulted in water quality deterioration from the discharge of preliminary treated sewage into the *** Harbour Area Treatment Scheme(HATS)is a centralised sewage collection and treatment scheme for areas on both sides of Victoria *** of this world-class sewage treatment infrastructure is being carried out in several stages,viz Stage 1,Stage 2A and Stage *** 1 of HATS involved the construction of a 23.6 km-long system of tunnels deep underground,carrying currently 1.4 million tonnes of sewage each day from Kowloon and the northeastern part of Hong Kong Island to a sewage treatment plant at Stonecutters Island for chemically enhanced primary treatment before *** 1 of HATS has brought about no- ticeable water quality improvement to the Victoria Harbour since its full commissioning in 2001 by treating 75% of the harbour sewage,but more needs to be done to restore the Harbour to a healthier *** 2A of HATS will upgrade the preliminary treatment works around the northern and southwestern shore of Hong Kong Island and construct a 21 km-long deep tunnel system to convey the sewage from Hong Kong Island to Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works(ScISTW),where the existing chemical treatment facilities will be expanded and new disinfection facilities *** planning and design for this phase is well underway with the aim of commissioning Stage 2A in *** 2B of HATS will involve the provision of bio- logical treatment at the ScISTW to further improve the effluent *** timing of the Stage 2B implementation will be decided upon a review of water quality trends,population increases and sewage flow build up to be undertaken in *** harbour water quality will benefit society in many different ways,including for example,enhanced recreational opportuni- ties,scenic quality,aesthetics,public health and safety as well as ecol
