Over the past decades,empirical evidence has been accumulated indicating that olfactory information plays a fundamental role in bird life ***,many aspects of avian olfaction remain poorly *** purpose was to broaden the knowledge about the importance of the sense of smell in some neglected bird groups:psittaciformes and ramphastids,and to compare how the response varied between the *** of the lack of information about the use of chemical cues for locating food in fruit-eating species,we also aimed to delve into this *** conducted a 3-choice(water/vinegar/papaya and banana juice)scent test in 5 Costa Rican native species:scarlet macaw(Ara macao),red-lored amazon(Amazona autumnalis),yellow-naped amazon(Amazona auropalliata),keel-billed toucan(Ramphastos sulfuratus),and yellow-throated toucan(Ramphastos ambiguus).Results revealed that macaws and toucans allocated signiﬁcantly more time to interacting with the fruit scent container,indicating that these species can perceive the volatile chemicals emitted by ripe fruits and that they can use this information to make foraging ***,amazons did not dedicate more time to interact with the fruit *** research provides theﬁrst evidence of the ability to exploit chemical volatile cues in macaws and toucans.

Red rice Is an Interfertlle, weedy form of cultivated rice （Oryza sativa L.） that competes aggressively with the crop In the southern US, reducing yields and contaminating harvests. No wild Oryza species occur In North America and the weed has been proposed to have evolved through multiple mechanisms, Including ＂de-domestication＂ of US crop cultlvars, accidental introduction of Asian weeds, and hybridization between US crops and Asian wild/weedy Oryza strains. The phenotype of US red rice ranges from ＂crop mimics＂, which share some domestication traits with the crop, to strains closely resembling Asian wild Oryza species. Assessments of genetic diversity have Indicated that many weed strains are closely related to Asian taxa （Including indica and aus rice varieties, which have never been cultivated In the US, and the Asian crop progenitor O. ruflpogon）, whereas others show genetic similarity to the tropical Japonica varieties cultivated In the southern US. Herein, we review what Is known about the evolutionary origins and genetic diversity of US red rice and describe an ongoing research project to further characterize the evolutionary genomlcs of this aggressive weed.

Objectives:The aim of this study was to assess the microbiological quality and safety of street food sold in the main streets and informal markets of Maputo,the capital of *** and Methods:From 83 different vendors selling different types of foods,83 samples of ready-to-eat(RTE)street food were ***,Escherichia coli and total coliforms were used as quality and hygiene *** monocytogenes(***)Salmonella and coagulase-positive staphylococc were used as food safety ***:High proportions of unsatisfactory food samples were found in both traditional hot(76.7%)and cold(75%)*** and Salmonella were tested negative in this ***,when coagulase-positive staphylococci was used as a food safety indicator,approximately 25%(23/83)of the food samples analyzed were classified as unsatisfactory/potentially ***:These results,showing that street food sold in Maputo clearly requires adequate sanitary conditions for its preparation and sale,contribute to the development of good manufacturing practices(GMP)for street food in Maputo,*** is the first report on the microbiological quality and safety of street food in Mozambique.

Magnesium(Mg)alloys are widely used for temporary bone implants due to their favorable biodegradability,cytocompatibility,hemocompatibility,and close mechanical properties to ***,rapid degradation and inadequate strength limit their *** overcome this,the direct current magnetron sputtering technique is employed for surface coating in Mg-based alloys using various zirconium(Zr)*** approach presents a promising strategy for simultaneously improving corrosion resistance,maintaining biocompatibility,and enhancing strength without compromising *** leveraging Mg’s inherent biodegradability,it has the potential to minimize the need for secondary surgeries,thereby reducing costs and *** paper is a systematic study aimed at understanding the corrosion mechanisms of Mg–Zr coatings,denoted Mg-xZr(x=0–5 at.%).Zr-doped coatings exhibited columnar growth leading to denser and refined structures with increasing Zr *** analysis confirmed the presence of the Mg(00.2)basal plane,shifting towards higher angles(1.15°)with 5 at.%Zr doping due to lattice parameter changes(i.e.,decrease and increase of“c”and“a”lattice parameters,respectively).Mg–Zr coatings exhibited“liquidphilic”behavior,while Young’s modulus retained a steady value around 80 GPa across all ***,the hardness has significantly improved across all samples’coating,reaching the highest value of(2.2±0.3)GPa for 5 at.%*** testing in simulated body fluid(SBF)at 37℃ revealed a significant enhancement in corrosion resistance for Mg–Zr coatings containing 1.0–3.4 at.%*** with the 5 at.%Zr coating which exhibited a corrosion rate of 32 mm/year,these coatings displayed lower corrosion rates,ranging from 1 to 12 mm/*** synergistic enhancement in mechanical properties and corrosion resistance,achieved with 2.0–3.4 at.%Zr,suggests potential ability for reducing stress shielding and controlled degradation performance,and consequentl

Metabolic syndrome(MetS)might be defined as the simultaneous accumulation of s everal functional changes that frequently occur in adults over 60 years of age(Gomez et al.,2018).The diagnosis of MetS requires the presence of three or more factors such as high body mass,type-2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),dyslipidemia,and arterial hypertension,which increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases as well as neurological complications,as stroke and dementia(Dyken and Lacoste,2018).Usually,these functional changes coincide and result in insensitivity for example hormones as leptin,adiponectin,and insulin(Dyken and Lacoste,2018).

The troposphere affects Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)signals due to the variability of the refractive *** delay is a function of the satellite elevation angle and the altitude of the GNSS receiver and depends on the atmospheric *** the residual tropospheric delay is not modelled carefully a bias error will occur in the vertical *** order to analyse the precise altimetric positioning based on a local active network,four scenarios in Southern Spain with different topographical,environmental,and meteorological conditions are presented,considering both favourable and non-favourable *** use of surface meteorological observations allows us to take into account the tropospheric conditions instead of a standard atmosphere,but introduces a residual tropospheric bias which reduces the accuracy of precise GNSS ***,with short observation times it is recommended not to estimate troposphere parameters,but to use an a priori model together with the standard *** results confirm that it is possible to achieve centimetre-scale vertical accuracy and precision with real time kinematic positioning even with large elevation differences with respect to the nearest reference *** numerical results may be taken into consideration for improving the altimetric configuration of the local active network.

The influence of mass-flow-rate ratio of inner to outer secondary air on gas-particle flow characteristics was determined in the near-burner region of a centrally fuel-rich swirl coal combustion burner, Velocity and particle volume flux profiles and normalized particle number concentrations were obtained. Peaks in tangential mean velocity and three-dimensional root-mean-square fluctuation velocities were found to decrease as the mass-flow-rate ratio increased. Moreover, the peaks in the mean axial velocities and parti- cle volume flux near the wall increased, whereas those near the chamber axis decreased. Simultaneously, both recirculation zone and swirl number decreased as the mass-flow-rate ratio increased.

The ballastless track is nowadays the most popular railway system due to the required low number of maintenance opera-tions and costs,despite the high *** gradual change from ballasted to ballastless tracks has been occurring in Asia,but also in Europe,increasing the number of transition *** transition zones are a special area of the railway networks where there is an accelerated process of track degradation,which is a major concern of the railway infrastructure ***,the accurate prediction of the short-and long-term performance of ballastless tracks in transition zones is an important topic in the current paradigm of building/rehabilitating high-speed *** work purposes the development of an advanced 3D model to study the global performance of a ballastless track in an embankment-tunnel transition zone considering the influence of the train speed(220,360,500,and 600 km/h).Moreover,a mitigation measure is also adopted to reduce the stress and displacements levels of the track in the transition.A resilient mat placed in the tunnel and embank-ment aims to soften the *** behaviour of the track with the resilient mat is evaluated considering the influence of the train speed,with special attention regarding the critical *** used methodology is a novel and hybrid approach that allows including short-term and long-term performance,through the development of a powerful 3D model combined with the implementation of a calibrated empirical permanent deformation model.

In this study,a polyamide with methine-thiophene and pyrimidine linkages(poly(pyrimidine-thiophene-amide)(PPTA))was ***,magnetic PPTA(M-PPTA)was synthesized using the hydrothermal *** products were analyzed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),X-ray diffraction(XRD),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),and a vibrating-sample magnetometer(VSM).The nanocomposite exhibits a saturation magnetization of 50.44 emu/g recorded by VSM *** ability of M-PPTA to bind dysprosium(Dy^(3+)),terbium(Tb^(3+)),and neodymium(Nd^(3+))was *** 0.15 g of M-PPTA to test the adsorption of the rare earth elements(50 mg/L)at pH=5.5,the percentage of adsorption for Dy^(3+),Tb^(3+),and Nd^(3+)is 98.41%,97.48%and 95.67%,***-second-order(PSO)significantly fits the adsorption kinetic *** equation was used to describe the adsorption equilibrium data of Dy^(3+)and Tb^(3+),while Langmuir model was used to simulate Nd^(3+)adsorption *** the temperature leads to an increase in the performance of M-PPTA,and an endothermic adsorption process was confirmed by the positive values ofΔ*** four adsorption-desorption cycles,the efficiency of adsorption of Dy^(3+),Tb^(3+),and Nd^(3+)by M-PPTA is88.75%,86.37%,and 84.64%,*** antagonism effect is observed for the adsorption of the individual ions in a ternary solution.
