Sterol regulatory element binding protein-2(SREBP-2)is activated by cytokines or pathogen,such as virus or bacteria,but its association with diminished cholesterol levels in COVID-19 patients is ***,we evaluated SREBP-2 activation in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of COVID-19 patients and verified the function of SREBP-2 in ***,we report the first observation of SREBP-2 C-terminal fragment in COVID-19 patients’blood and propose SREBP-2 C-terminal fragment as an indicator for determining *** confirmed that SREBP-2-induced cholesterol biosynthesis was suppressed by Sestrin-1 and PCSK9 expression,while the SREBP-2-induced inflammatory responses was upregulated in COVID-19 ICU *** an infectious disease mouse model,inhibitors of SREBP-2 and NF-κB suppressed cytokine storms caused by viral infection and prevented pulmonary *** results collectively suggest that SREBP-2 can serve as an indicator for severity diagnosis and therapeutic target for preventing cytokine storm and lung damage in severe COVID-19 patients.

Zinc metal anodes(ZMA)have high theoretical capacities(820 mAh g−1 and 5855 mAh cm−3)and redox potential(−0.76 V *** hydrogen electrode),similar to the electrochemical voltage window of the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in a mild acidic electrolyte system,facilitating aqueous zinc batteries competitive in next-generation energy storage ***,the HER and byproduct formation effectuated by water-splitting deteriorate the electrochemical performance of ZMA,limiting their *** this study,a key factor in promoting the HER in carbon-based electrode materials(CEMs),which can provide a larger active surface area and guide uniform zinc metal deposition,was investigated using a series of threedimensional structured templating carbon electrodes(3D-TCEs)with different local graphitic orderings,pore structures,and surface *** ultramicropores of CEMs are the determining critical factors in initiating HER and clogging active surfaces by Zn(OH)2 byproduct formation,through a systematic comparative study based on the 3D-TCE series *** the 3D-TCEs had a proper graphitic structure with few ultramicropores,they showed highly stable cycling performances over 2000 cycles with average Coulombic efficiencies of≥99%.These results suggest that a well-designed CEM can lead to high-performance ZMA in aqueous zinc batteries.

Pancreatic pseudocystocolonic fistula treated without surgical or endoscopic intervention

We report here a case of pancreatic pseudocystocolic fistula that was treated without surgical or endoscopic intervention.A 76-year-old woman,presenting with a fever and epigastric pain,was referred to our *** months prior to this admission,the patient had been admitted to the hospital for acute *** computerized tomography(CT)revealed a 9 cm pseudocyst containing air,and a fistular opening was observed via *** colonoscopy,the abdominal pain was slightly improved,the fever subsided and laboratory results showed decreased C-reactive protein *** observed improvement was likely due to the cleansing of the bowel,which induced spontaneous drainage from the pseudocyst into the *** therapy was administered and daily bowel cleansing was performed using a polyethylene glycol *** three weeks,a follow-up CT revealed that the size of the pseudocyst had decreased significantly from 9 to 5.3 *** addition,laboratory tests were *** patient was able to resume a normal diet and was discharged in good overall health from the hospital,without aggravation of the symptoms.A colonoscopy performed 3 mo later and a follow-up CT performed 6 mo later confirmed that both the fistula and pseudocyst had completely disappeared.

AIM: To evaluate the pharmaceutical safety of a Chinese herbal formula, Chunggan extract (CGX), traditionally prescribed as a hepatotherapeutic drug via systemic acute and subacute toxicological study. METHODS: Twenty male dogs and 20 female dogs were fed doses 50 times and 4 times greater than the clinically-recommended drug dosages in an acute and a subacute toxicological study, respectively. Adverse effects were examined by comparing the differences between normal and drug-administered groups using clinical signs, necropsies, histopathologic findings, haematology, urinalysis, and biochemical analysis. RESULTS: In the acute study no change in the body weight, diarrhoea, apetite, mortality rate and histopa- thology of major organs was observed in male or female dogs with a single administration of CGX at 5 g/kg. No drug-induced abnormalities at analysis of histopathology, haematology, urinalysis, and biochemistry were found with any dose of this drug. CONCLUSION: CGX is supposed to be very safe when used in a clinical application with a wide therapeutic index.

Long-term result of endoscopic Histoacryl （N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate）injection for treatment of gastric varices

AIM:To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of endoscopic obliteration with Histoacryl  for treatment of gastric variceal bleeding and ***:Between January 1994 and March 2010 at soonChunHyang University Hospital,a total of 127 patients with gastric varices received Histoacryl  injections *** hundred patients underwent endoscopic Histoacryl  injections because of variceal bleeding,the other 27 patients received such injections as a prophylactic ***:According to Sarin classification,56 patients were GOV1,61 patients were GOV2 and 10 patients were *** of the varices were large(F2 or F3,111 patients).The average volume of Histoacryl  per each session was 1.7±1.3 cc and mean number of sessions was 1.3±0.6.(1 session-98 patients,2 sessions-25 patients,≥3 sessions-4 patients).Twenty-seven patients with high risk of bleeding(large or fundal or RCS+or Child C) received Histoacryl  injection as a primary prophylactic *** these patients,hepatitis B virus was the major etiology of cirrhosis,25 patients showed GOV1 or 2(92.6%)and F2 or F3 accounted for 88.9%(n=24).The rate of initial hemostasis was 98.4%and recurrent bleeding within one year occurred in 18.1%of *** hemostasis during episodes of rebleeding was achieved in 73.9%of *** survival was 50 mo (95%CI 30.5-69.5).Major complications occurred in 4 patients(3.1%).The rebleeding rate in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma or GOV2 was higher than in those with other *** of the 27 subjects who were treated prophylactically experienced treatment-related *** survival rates of the 127 patients at 6 mo,1,3,and 5 years were 92.1%,84.2%,64.2%,and 45.3%,*** 6 mo cumulative survival rate of the 27 patients treated prophylactically was 75%.CONCLUSION:Histoacryl  injection therapy is an effective treatment for gastric varices and also an effective prophylactic treatment of gastric varices which

AIM: To evaluated the value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) scan in diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and extrahepatic metastases. METHODS: A total of 138 patients with HCC who had both conventional imaging modalities and 18F-FDG PET/CT scan done between November 2006 and March 2011 were enrolled. Diagnostic value of each imaging modality for detection of extrahepatic metastases was evaluated. Clinical factors and tumor characteristics including PET imaging were analyzed as indicative factors for metastases by univariate and multivariate methods. RESULTS: The accuracy of chest CT was significantly superior compared with the accuracy of PET imaging for detecting lung metastases. The detection rate of metastatic pulmonary nodule ≥ 1 cm was 12/13 (92.3%), when < 1 cm was 2/10 (20%) in PET imaging. The accuracy of PET imaging was significantly superior compared with the accuracy of bone scan for detecting bone metastases. In multivariate analy- sis, increased tumor size (≥ 5 cm) (P = 0.042) and increased average standardized uptake value (SUV) uptake (P = 0.028) were predictive factors for extrahepatic metastases. Isometabolic HCC in PET imaging was inversely correlated in multivariate analysis (P = 0.035). According to the receiver operating characteristic curve, the optimal cutoff of average SUV to predict extrahepatic metastases was 3.4. CONCLUSION: 18F-FDG PET/CT scan is invaluable for detection of lung metastases larger than 1 cm and bone metastases. Primary HCC having larger than 5 cm and increased average SUV uptake more than 3.4 should be considered for extrahepatic metastases.

To the Editor： Sevoflurane and desflurane are tile most common general anesthetics used in children. Previous study has shown that these agents can affect the electrocardiogram （ECG） markers,i^i leading to fatal ventricular arrhythmia. The followings were identified as useful indices for predicting and estimating the occurrence of a fatal arrhythmia： the interval between the peak and the end of T wave （Tp-Te） the ratio of the Tp-Te interval to the QT interval （[Tp-Te/QT]）, and the JY interval （JT）, which is measured from the end of the QRS complex to Te.

AIM:To evaluate and compare the clinical outcomes of prophylactic submucosal saline-epinephrine injection and saline injection alone for large colon polyps by conventional polypectomy. METHODS:A prospective study was conducted from July 2003 to July 2004 at 11 tertiary endoscopic centers. Large colon polyps (> 10 mm in diameter) wererandomized to undergo endoscopic polypectomy with submucosal saline-epinephrine injection (epinephrine group) or normal saline injection (saline group). Endoscopic polypectomy was performed by the conventional snare method,and early ( 2 cm) and neoplastic polyps were independently and significantly associated with the presence of PPB. CONCLUSION:The prophylactic submucosal injection of diluted epinephrine does not appear to provide an additional advantage over the saline injection alone for the prevention of PPB.
