Localisation of machines in harsh Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT)environment is necessary for various applications.Therefore,a novel localisation algorithm is proposed for noisy range measurements in IIoT networks.The position of an unknown machine device in the network is estimated using the relative distances between blind machines(BMs)and anchor machines(AMs).Moreover,a more practical and challenging scenario with the erroneous position of AM is considered,which brings additional uncertainty to the final position estimation.Therefore,the AMs selection algorithm for the localisation of BMs in the IIoT network is introduced.Only those AMs will participate in the localisation process,which increases the accuracy of the final location estimate.Then,the closed‐form expression of the proposed greedy successive anchorization process is derived,which prevents possible local convergence,reduces computation,and achieves Cramér‐Rao lower bound accuracy for white Gaussian measurement noise.The results are compared with the state‐of‐the‐art and verified through numerous simulations.

Leisure-time physical activity,anthropometrics,and body composition as predictors of quality of life domains after spinal cord injury:an exploratory cross-sectional study

The objective of the current work was to examine the relationships between quality of life(QOL)domains in persons with spinal cord injury(SCI)and their levels of weekly leisure-time physical activity(LTPA),anthropometric variables,and body composition variables.This exploratory cross-sectional study consisted of baseline data collected as part of a randomized clinical trial at a VA Medical Center and SCI center.A convenience sample of 36 community-dwelling persons with SCI participated in the current study.Outcome measures included the World Health Organization Quality of Life Short Form(WHOQOL-BREF),Leisure-Time Physical Activity Questionnaire for People with Spinal Cord Injury(LTPAQ-SCI),anthropomorphic measures(waist,hip,and abdominal circumference),and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry(DXA)to quantify regional and total body composition.Multiple regression models suggested that engagement in LTPA accounted for 35.7%of the variance in physical health QOL,33.5%in psychological QOL,14.2%in social relationships QOL,and 38.2%in environmental QOL.Anthropometric measures accounted for 11.3%,3.1%,12.0%,and 6.7%of the variance in these QOL indices,respectively,and DXA indices accounted for 18.7%,17.5%,27.4%,and 21.9%.Within these models,the number of minutes of heavy LTPA per day uniquely predicted physical health QOL,the number of mild LTPA days per week uniquely predicted psychological QOL,and the amount of mild LTPA per day uniquely predicted environmental QOL.Bivariate analyses also suggested that android and trunk fat,as well as supine waist and abdominal circumferences,were positively associated with social relationships QOL.Encouraging individuals with SCI to engage in LTPA may robustly enhance multiple aspects of QOL while reducing the risk for cardiovascular and metabolic morbidities associated with SCI.Moreover,this may lead to a further understanding of how QOL may impact longitudinal intervention trials.The study protocol and procedures were reviewed and approved by the McGuire VA Research Institutional Rev

BACKGROUND Lumbar disc herniation and non-specific low back pain are common conditions that seriously affect patients’health-related quality of life(HRQoL).Although empirical evidence has demonstrated that novel Thermobalancing therapy and Dr Allen’s Device can relieve chronic low back pain,there have been no randomised controlled trials for these indications.AIM To evaluate the efficacy of Dr Allen’s Device in lumbar disc herniation(LDH)and non-specific low back pain(NSLBP).METHODS A randomised clinical trial was conducted investigating 55 patients with chronic low back pain due to LDH(n=28)or NSLBP(n=27),out of which 15 were randomly assigned to the control group and 40 were assigned to the treatment group.The intervention was treatment with Dr Allen’s Device for 3 mo.Changes in HRQoL were assessed using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale and the Japanese Orthopedic Association Back Pain Questionnaire.RESULTS Thermobalancing therapy with Dr Allen’s Device showed a significant reduction in pain in the treatment group(P<0.001),with no recorded adverse effects.Both pain assessment scales showed a significant improvement in patients’perception of pain indicating improvement in HRQoL.CONCLUSION The out-of-hospital use of Thermobalancing therapy with Dr Allen’s Device for Low Back Treatment relieves chronic low back pain significantly and without adverse effects,improves the level of activity and HRQoL among patients with LDH and NSLBP.This study demonstrates the importance of this safe first-line therapy that can be used for effective at-home management of chronic low back pain.

Fractional Processing Based Adaptive Beamforming Algorithm

Fractional order algorithms have shown promising results in various signal processing applications due to their ability to improve performance without significantly increasing complexity.The goal of this work is to inves-tigate the use of fractional order algorithm in the field of adaptive beam-forming,with a focus on improving performance while keeping complexity lower.The effectiveness of the algorithm will be studied and evaluated in this context.In this paper,a fractional order least mean square(FLMS)algorithm is proposed for adaptive beamforming in wireless applications for effective utilization of resources.This algorithm aims to improve upon existing beam-forming algorithms,which are inefficient in performance,by offering faster convergence,better accuracy,and comparable computational complexity.The FLMS algorithm uses fractional order gradient in addition to the standard ordered gradient in weight adaptation.The derivation of the algorithm is provided and supported by mathematical convergence analysis.Performance is evaluated through simulations using mean square error(MSE)minimization as a metric and compared with the standard LMS algorithm for various parameters.The results,obtained through Matlab simulations,show that the FLMS algorithm outperforms the standard LMS in terms of convergence speed,beampattern accuracy and scatter plots.FLMS outperforms LMS in terms of convergence speed by 34%.From this,it can be concluded that FLMS is a better candidate for adaptive beamforming and other signal processing applications.

The digestive tract is designed for the optimal processing of food that nourishes all organ systems.The esophagus,stomach,small bowel,and colon are sophisticated neuromuscular tubes with specialized sphincters that transport ingested food-stuffs from one region to another.Peristaltic contractions move ingested solids and liquids from the esophagus into the stomach;the stomach mixes the ingested nutrients into chyme and empties chyme from the stomach into the duodenum.The to-and-fro movement of the small bowel maximizes absorption of fat,protein,and carbohydrates.Peristaltic contractions are necessary for colon function and defecation.

Electromagnetic effects on the orbital motion of a charged spacecraft

This paper deals with the effects of electromagnetic forces on the orbital motion of a spacecraft. The electrostatic charge which a spacecraft generates on its surface in the Earth＇s magnetic field will be subject to a perturbative Lorentz force. A model incorporating all Lorentz forces as a function of orbital elements has been developed on the basis of magnetic and electric fields. This Lorentz force can be used to modify or perturb the spacecraft＇s orbits. Lagrange＇s planetary equations in the Gauss variational form are derived using the Lorentz force as a perturbation to a Keplerian orbit. Our approach incorporates orbital inclination and the true anomaly. The numer- ical results of Lagrange＇s planetary equations for some operational satellites show that the perturbation in the orbital elements of the spacecraft is a second order perturba- tion for a certain value of charge. The effect of the Lorentz force due to its magnetic component is three times that of the Lorentz force due to its electric component. In addition, the numerical results confirm that the strong effects are due to the Lorentz force in a polar orbit, which is consistent with realistic physical phenomena that occur in polar orbits. The results confirm that the magnitude of the Lorentz force depends on the amount of charge. This means that we can use artificial charging to create a force to control the attitude and orbital motion of a spacecraft.

Characterization of cytotoxicity of airborne particulates from urban areas of Lahore

A number of species （organic and inorganic） in airborne particulates cause the toxicity to living being. The potential of in vitro test methods were explored for toxicity assessment of trace toxic elements （inorganic species） present in ambient air on human being （lungs）. A year long sampling of airborne particles （PM2.5） was carded （April 2008 to March 2009） in Lahore, Pakistan. A total of thirty nine samples were collected on 47 mm Zefiuor Teflon filter membranes and each was analysed to characterize for the elements： Sb, As, Be, Cd, Cr, Co, Pb, Mn, Hg using ICP-MS in water extract and total acid digestate. The samples cytotoxicity was also established using lung derived cells and MTS colorimetric assays. This generated dose response curves and IC50 values for the elemental mixtures identified on the Teflon filter membrane. The results indicated that even at low concentrations airborne elemental mixtures displayed an additive toxic effect.

Eight novel poly(amide-imide)s were synthesized under microwave irradiation by using a domestic microwaveoven from the polycondensation reactions of N.N'-(pyromellitoyl)-bis-L-alanine diacid chloride(1)with eight differentderivatives of hydantoin compounds(2a-h)in the presence of a small amount of a polar organic medium such as o-cresol.The polycondensation proceeded rapidly,compared with the conventional solution polycondensation and was completedwithin 8-10 min,producing a series of new poly(amide-imide)s(3a-h)with inherent viscosities about 0.35-0.68 dL/g inhigh yields.The obtained PAIs(3a-h)were fully characterized by means of FT-IR spectroscopy,elemental analyses,inherentviscosity(ηinh),solubility and specific rotation measurements.All of the resulting polymers show optical rotation and areoptically active.Thermal properties of the poly(amide-imide)s were investigated by using thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA).

OPTICALLY ACTIVE AND FLAME-RETARDANT POLY(AMIDE-IMIDE)S BASED ON PHOSPHINE OXIDE MOIETY AND N,N′-(PYROMELLITOYL)BIS-L-AMINO ACID IN THE MAIN CHAIN:SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION

Six new optically active and flame-retardant poly（amide-imide）s PAls 5a-5f containing phosphine oxide moiety as a flame-retardant unit in the main chain were synthesized from direct polycondensation reaction of six chiral N,N＇-（pyromellitoyl）-bis-L-amino acid 3a-3f with bis（3-aminophenyl）phenyl phosphine oxide 4 in a medium consisting of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone （NMP）, triphenyl phosphite （TPP）, calcium chloride （CaCl2） and pyridine. The polymerization reactions produced a series of optically active poly（amide-imide）s with good yield and good inherent viscosity of 0.34-0.70 dLg^-1. The resulted polymers were fully characterized by means of FTIR and ^1H-NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography （GPC）, elemental analyses, inherent viscosity and solubility tests. Thermal properties and flameretardant behavior of the PAIs 5a-5f were investigated using thermal gravimetric analysis （TGA and DTG） and limiting oxygen index （LOI）. Data obtained by thermal analysis （TGA and DTG） revealed that these polymers showed good thermal stability. Furthermore, high char yield in TGA and good LOI values indicated that the resulting polymers were capable of exhibiting good flame retardant properties. N,N＇-（pyromellitoyl）-bis-L-amino acids 3a-3f were prepared in quantitative yields by the condensation reaction of pyromellitic dianhydride （1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylicacid-1,2,4,5-dianhydride） 1 with L-alanine 2a, L-valine 2b, L-leucine 2c, L-isoleucine 2d, L-phenyl alanine 2e and L-2-aminobutyric acid 2f in acetic acid solution.
