Background:We aimed to characterise the geographical distribution of Sørensen-based multi-site dissimilarity(β_(sor))and its underlying true turnover(β_(sim))and nestedness(βsne)components for Chinese Lauraceae and to analyse their relationships to current climate and past climate ***:We used ensembles of small models(ESMs)to map the current distributions of 353 Lauraceae species in China and calculated β_(sor) and its β_(sim) and β_(sne) *** tested the relationship between β_(sor),β_(sne) and β_(sim) with current climate and past climate change related predictors using a series of simultaneous autoregressive(SAR_(err))***:Spatial distribution of β_(sor)of Lauraceae is positively correlated with latitude,showing an inverse rela-tionship to the latitudinalα-diversity(species richness)*** β_(sor) occurs at the boundaries of the warm temperate and subtropical zones and at the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau due to high β_(sne).The optimized SAR_(err) model explainsβ_(sor) andβ_(sne) well,but notβ_(sim).Current mean annual temperature determinesβ_(sor) and β_(sne) of Lauraceae more than anomalies and velocities of temperature or precipitation since the Last Glacial ***:Current low temperatures and high climatic heterogeneity are the main factors explaining the high multi-siteβ-diversity of *** contrast to analyses of the β-diversity of entire species assemblages,studies of single plant families can provide complementary insights into the drivers of β-diversity of evolutionarily more narrowly defined entities.

This study examines resistance and assimilation as postcolonial modes in Arab-american women's poetry after the 9/11, 2001. Herethe intention is to clarify the modes of resistance and assimilation as two important aspects in MohjaKahf's volume of poetry, E-Mails from Scheherazad(2003).Kahf'spoetry functions as a testimony that resists and challenges the stereotypes of Arabs and Muslims as terrorist, ignorant, fundamentalist, na?ve and other, and the woman as an oppressed, belly-dancer harem;so submissive, passive, and subordinate to the dominant role of man;by engaging Bhabha's concept of the Third Space.

Design and Implementation of Fingerprint Identification System Based on KNN Neural Network

Fingerprint identification and recognition are considered popular technique in many security and law enforcement applications. The aim of this paper is to present a proposed authentication system based on fingerprint as biometric type, which is capable of recognizing persons with high level of confidence and minimum error rate. The designed system is implemented using Matlab 2015b and tested on a set of fingerprint images gathered from 90 different persons with 8 samples for each using Futronic’s FS80 USB2.0 Fingerprint Scanner and the *** program. An efficient image enhancement algorithm is used to improve the clarity (contrast) of the ridge structures in a fingerprint. After that core point and candidate core points are extracted for each Fingerprint image and feature vector have been extracted for each point using filterbank_based algorithm. Also, for the matching the KNN neural network was used. In addition, the matching results were calculated and compared to other papers using some performance evaluation factors. A threshold has been proposed and used to provide the rejection for the fingerprint images that does not belong to the database and the experimental results show that the KNN technique have a recognition rate equal to 93.9683% in a threshold equal to 70%.

Climate change and human activities can influence vegetation net primary productivity(NPP), a key component of natural ecosystems. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China, in spite of its significant natural and cultural values, is one of the most susceptible regions to climate change and human disturbances in the world. To assess the impact of climate change and human activities on vegetation dynamics in the grassland ecosystems of the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, we applied a time-series trend analysis to normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) datasets from 2000 to 2015 and compared these spatiotemporal variations with trends in climatic variables over the same time period. The constrained ordination approach(redundancy analysis) was used to determine which climatic variables or human-related factors mostly influenced the variation of NDVI. Furthermore, in order to determine whether current conservation measures and programs are effective in ecological protection and reconstruction, we divided the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau into two parts: the Three-River Headwater conservation area(TRH zone) in the south and the non-conservation area(NTRH zone) in the north. The results indicated an overall(73.32%) increasing trend of vegetation NPP in grasslands throughout the study area. During the period 2000–2015, NDVI in the TRH and NTRH zones increased at the rates of 0.0015/a and 0.0020/a, respectively. Specifically, precipitation accounted for 9.2% of the total variation in NDVI, while temperature accounted for 13.4%. In addition, variation in vegetation NPP of grasslands responded not only to long-and short-term changes in climate, as conceptualized in non-equilibrium theory, but also to the impact of human activities and their associated perturbations. Total knee arthroplasty:Effect of obesity and other patients' characteristics on operative duration and outcome

AIM: To examine the effects of patients' characteristics mainly obesity on operative duration and other outcomemeasures of knee arthroplasty. METHODS: This is a retrospective chart review of 204 patients who had knee arthroplasty within the past five years(2007-2011) at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The data collection form was developed utilizing the literature review to gather all the needed variables. Data were gathered from admission notes, nursing notes, operative reports and discharge ***: A feasible sample of 204 patients were included in the study. Of those patients, 155(76%) were females. The mean age was 70.1 years for males(SD ± 9.4) and 62.7 years(SD ± 8) for females. Regarding the type of total knee replacement(TKR), 163(79.9%) patients had unilateral TKR and 41(20.1%) had bilateral TKR. Nine patients(4.4%) had a normal body mass index(BMI)(18.5 to < 25). Overweight patients(BMI 25 to < 30) represented 18.1%. Obesity class Ⅰ(BMI 30 to < 35) and obesity class Ⅱ(BMI from 35 to < 40) were present in 23% and 29.9% of the patients, respectively. Morbid obesity(BMI greater than 40) was present in 24.5%. The mean duration of surgery was 126.3 min(SD ± 30.8) for unilateral TKR and 216.6 min(SD ± 55.4) for bilateral *** mean length of stay in the hospital was 12 d(SD ± 4.9). The complications that patients had after the operation included 2 patients(1%) who developed deep venous thrombosis, 2 patients(1%) developed surgical wound infections and none had pulmonary embolism. Patients' characteristics(including age, gender, BMI and co-morbidities) did not have an effect on the operative duration of knee replacement nor the length of hospital stay. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that obesity and other patients' characteristics do not have effect on the operative duration nor the length of hospital stay following TKR.
