Single crystals of red Tl2S5 were prepared by a special modified vertical Bridgman and Stockbarger technique. This growth was performed in our laboratory. The influences of temperature on the electrical conductivity, Hall mobility, carrier concentration, and thermoelectric power (TEP) were carried out in the temperature range 277–413K. Throughout these measurements, various physical parameters such as effective mass of charge carriers, carrier mobility, diffusion coefficient, and the relaxation time for both majority and minority carriers were found.

Cardiac and pericardial masses may be neoplastic, benign and malignant, non-neoplastic such as thrombus or simple pericardial cysts, or normal variants cardiac structure can also be a diagnostic challenge. Currently, there are several imaging modalities for diagnosis of cardiac masses; each technique has its inherent advantages and disadvantages. Echocardiography, is typically the initial test utilizes in such cases, Echocardiography is considered the test of choice for evaluation and detection of cardiac mass, it is widely available, portable, with no ionizing radiation and provides comprehensive evaluation of cardiac function and valves, however, echocardiography is not very helpful in many cases such as evaluation of extracardiac extension of mass, poor tissue characterization, and it is non diagnostic in some cases. Cross sectional imaging with cardiac computed tomography provides a three dimensional data set with excellent spatial resolution but utilizes ionizing radiation, intravenous iodinated contrast and relatively limited functional evaluation of the heart. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging(CMR) has excellent contrast resolution that allows superior soft tissue characterization. CMR offers comprehensive evaluation of morphology, function, tissue characterization. The great benefits of CMR make CMR a highly useful tool in the assessment of cardiac masses.(Fluorine 18) fluorodeoxygluocse(FDG) positron emission tomography(PET) has become a corner stone in several oncological application such as tumor staging, restaging, treatment efficiency, FDG is a very useful imaging modality in evaluation of cardiac masses. A recent advance in the imaging technology has been the development of integrated PET-MRI system that utilizes the advantages of PET and MRI in a single examination. FDG PET-MRI provides complementary information on evaluation of cardiac masses. The purpose of this review is to provide several clinical scenarios on the incremental value of PET and MRI

AIM: To assess hepatic fibrosis and factors associated with its progression in children with HCV infection. METHODS: At the Hepatology Unit,Cairo University Children's Hospital,a single liver biopsy was performed to 43 children with HCV infection after an informed consent between 1998-2004. Their mean age at liver biopsy was 8.67 ± 4.3 years. RESULTS: among the 43 patients' biopsies,12 (27.9%) were having no fibrosis,20 (46.5%) mild fibrosis and 11 (25.6%) moderate to severe fibrosis. The median time for development of fibrosis was estimated to be 5.5 years. Developing fibrosis was significantly associated with shorter duration from first detected ALT elevation to biopsy (12 mo vs 1.2 mo,P = 0.015) and having higher levels of direct serum bilirubin (0.3 mg/dL vs 0.5 mg/dL,P = 0.048). No association was found between fibrosis stage and the presence of co-morbid conditions (P = 0.33). CONCLUSION: Hepatic fibrosis was present in 72.1% of children with HCV infection. The development of fibrosis was associated with higher levels of direct serum bilirubin. There was no significant association between fibrosis and age,duration of infection,risk factors,co-morbid conditions and most biochemical parameters.

The Synthesis and Cytotoxicity of Novel Thiophene Derivatives Derived from 2-(4-Oxo-4,4-Dihydrothiazol-2-yl) Acetonitrile

The reaction of the 2-(4-oxo-4,4-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)acetonitrile 1 with cyaclopentanone (2) afforded the condensed product 3. The latter underwent a series of heterocyclizations through its reaction with different reagents. Moreover, compound 1 underwent the Gewald’s thiophene to afford compounds 15 and 17. The reaction of either hydrazine hydrate or phenylhydrazine with compound 17 gave the hydrazide derivatives 19a and 19b, respectively. The cytotoxicity of the newly synthesized products was measured towards the three cancer cell lines MCF-7, NCI-H460 and SF-268. The study showed that compounds 3, 5, 9c, 11, 13a, 13c, 17 and 19b were the most active compounds towards the three cancer cell lines.

The reaction of cyanoacetylhydrazine 1 with furan-2-aldehyde 2 gives the hydrazide-hydrazone derivative 3. The latter compound undergoes a series of heterocyclization reactions to give new heterocyclic compounds. The antitumor evaluation of the newly synthesized products against three cancer cell lines, namely breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), non-small cell lung cancer (NCI-H460) and CNS cancer (SF-268) were recorded. Some of the synthesized compounds show high inhibitory effects.
