Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) and modulus of elasticity (E) are the most important rock parameters required and determined for rock mechanical studies in most civil and mining projects. In this study, two mathematical methods, regression analysis and Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), were used to predict the uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity. The P-wave velocity, the point load index, the Schmidt hammer rebound number and porosity were used as inputs for both meth-ods. The regression equations show that the relationship between P-wave velocity, point load index, Schmidt hammer rebound number and the porosity input sets with uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity under conditions of linear rela-tions obtained coefficients of determination of (R2) of 0.64 and 0.56, respectively. ANNs were used to improve the regression re-sults. The generalized regression and feed forward neural networks with two outputs (UCS and E) improved the coefficients of determination to more acceptable levels of 0.86 and 0.92 for UCS and to 0.77 and 0.82 for E. The results show that the proposed ANN methods could be applied as a new acceptable method for the prediction of uniaxial compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of intact rocks.

The heat transfer enhancement(HTE) in tubular heat exchangers fitted with vortex-generator(VG) inserts is experimentally investigated. The studied four parameters and ranges are: winglets-pitch ratio(1.33, 2.67, and 4),winglets-length ratio(0.33, 0.67, and 1), winglets-width ratio(0.2, 0.4, and 0.6), and Reynolds number(5200to 12200). The testing fluids are the water and Cu–water nanofluid at the volumetric fraction of 0.2%. The results obtained on HTE, pressure drop, and performance evaluation criterion(PEC) are compared with those for water in a smooth tube. It is found that the VG inserts with lower winglets-pitch ratio and higher winglets-length/width ratios present higher values of HTE and pressure drop. Over the range studied, the maximum PEC of 1.83 is detected with the Cu–water nanofluid inside the tube equipped with a VG insert at the winglets-width ratio of0.6 for the maximum Reynolds number, when the heat transfer rate and pressure drop are 1.24 times and 2.03 times of those in the smooth tube. Generalized regression equations of the Nusselt number, friction factor, and PEC are presented for the tubular heat exchangers with the VG inserts for both water and Cu–water *** is concluded that the main advantage of the VG inserts is their simple fabrication and considerable performance, particularly at higher Reynolds number.

Natural gas is transported from producing regions to consumption regions by using transmission pipelines at high pressures. At consumption regions, the pressure of natural gas is reduced in city gate stations(CGSs). Before the pressure reduction process, the temperature of natural gas is increased usually by using a water bath heater,which burns natural gas as fuel, to protect against freezing of natural gas. These types of heat exchangers have a low efficiency and consume a lot of fuel to generate the required heat. In the current study, the twisted configuration of the heating coil is proposed and investigated to enhance the heat transfer through a water bath heater with a nominal capacity of 1000 m^3·h^-1. Firstly, the implementation procedure is validated with data collected from the CGS of Qaleh-Jiq(located in Golestan province of Iran). A very good agreement is achieved between the obtained results and the real data. Then, three different twist ratios are considered to examine the twisting effects. The proposed technique is evaluated in the terms of velocity, temperature, and pressure variations, and the results are compared with the conventional case, i.e. straight configuration. It is found that both the heat transfer rate and the pressure drop augment as the twist ratio is raised. Finally, it is concluded that the twisted tubes can reduce the length of the gas coil by about 12.5% for the model with low twist ratio, 18.75% for the model with medium twist ratio, and 25% for the model with high twist ratio as compared to the straight configuration.

AIm:To compare frontalis sling and tarsoconjunctival mullerectomy plus levator resection(TCmLR)in subjects with severe unilateral congenital ptosis with poor levator function(LF).mETHODS:A prospective non-randomized nonblinded single center clinical *** patients with severe unilateral congenital ptosis with poor LF were *** frontalis sling and TCmLR were performed and the functional,cosmetic outcomes,complications,and success rate were evaluated at 1,3,and 6mo *** t-test,Chi-square,Fishers exact,and nonparametric mannWhitney tests were used by SPSS ***:Frontalis sling and TCmLR procedures were performed on 26 and 24 patients *** mean age was 10.97±*** was significantly better in the TCmLR group at months 1,3,and 6(P=0.002).Lagophthalmos was more common in the TCmLR group(no significant difference).At month 3,mild punctate epithelial erosions were observed more in the frontalis sling group(P=0.002).Significant complete success rate of 1st and 6th month for the frontalis sling vs TCmLR groups were 50%vs 20.8%(P=0.02),and 38.4%vs 50%(P=0.03)***:Complete success rate of TCmLR is higher in long-term follow-up in contrast with the frontalis sling in the *** complications are more detected in mid-term follow-ups in both groups.

BACKGROUND:Life-sustaining treatments(LSTs)may prolong life but greatly decrease the quality of *** factor influencing decision-making about withholding and withdrawing these treatments is the attitude of *** study aimed to evaluate the attitude of critical care nurses towards life-sustaining treatments in South East ***:In this cross-sectional study,"Ethnicity and Attitudes towards Advance Care Directives Questionnaire"was used to investigate the attitude of 104 critical care nurses towards lifesustaining treatments in three hospitals affiliated to Kerman University of medical ***:The findings of this study indicated that although a majority of critical care nurses(77%)did not have personal desire for use of LSTs including CPR and mechanical ventilation,they had moderately negative to neutral attitude towards general use of LSTs(2.95 of 5).CONCLUSIONS:These findings suggest that nurses'attitude towards LSTs can be changed by inclusion of specific courses about death,palliative care and life-sustaining treatments in undergraduate and postgraduate nursing *** muslim nurses about religious aspects of LSTs may also improve their attitudes.

随着电动汽车对锂离子电池组比能量密度要求的提高,解决电池在恶劣工况下的热稳定性问题在电池组的安全设计中变得越来越重要。这对于缓解里程焦虑和确保电动汽车的整体安全尤为重要。液体冷却系统是锂离子电池热管理的常用方法。本文采用三维计算流体动力学模拟分析了圆柱电池组矩形通道水冷系统的性能。采用有限体积法,用实验数据验证了计算结果。首先,研究了通道的收敛和发散对所考虑的冷却系统热特性和水力特性的影响。然后,研究了冷却剂的共流型和逆流型策略。结果表明,与传统设计相比,通道的收敛使系统的努塞尔数提高了约21%。而沟道分流时,水力性能较好。散流冷却系统的摩擦损失减小约70%。研究还发现,流动模式对控制电池组的温度均匀性是相当有效的。通道的逆流模式提供了较低的温度,并且在发散通道的情况下,与共流模式的最大偏差约为5.2 K。
