Frequency of C825T G protein β3 subunit gene polymorphism and its association with obesity in the Kyrgyz population

Objective:To examine the frequency of C825T G protein β3 subunit gene polymorphism and its association with obesity of ethnic ***:The study enrolled 210 people,89 patients(35 females,54 males)with obesity(BMI≥30 kg/m2)and 121 practically healthy patients(38 females,83 males)with normal body weight and no signs of type 2 diabetes(group of control),who were not observed before by a *** blood pressure,anthropometry,glucose and lipid profile were examined among all *** DNA was extracted from peripheral blood cells.G proteinβ3 subunit C825T polymorphism was determined by polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Results:TT and CT genotypes carriers were grouped together in one group because the TT genotype was ***+TT genotype frequency in the group with obesity made 0.72 and was significantly higher than that in the control group-0.52(χ2-8.44;P=0.004;odds ratio-2.55;95%CI 1.31-4.23).The statistical analysis revealed that hypertension(45%vs.31.3%,P=0.049)and obesity(51.2%vs.30%,P<0.01)occurred significantly more often in CT+TT genotype carriers than in the CC *** results of the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the presence of 825T allele(exp β-2.89;95%CI 1.25-6.7;P=0.013),along with the occasional consumption of vegetables(exp β-3.47;95%CI 1.52-7.94;P=0.003)was the significant risk factor for obesity,regardless of gender,age and level of physical *** the construction of the similar regression model for hypertension,the statistically significant role of 825T allele was lost after adjustment for obesity as an independent ***:G protein β3 subunit gene C825T allele in the Kyrgyz ethnic group has an association with obesity.

Natural sediment at a dam and its inorganic materials as adsorbents of praseodymium(Pr(Ⅲ))

The sediment deposited behind a dam(DS) and its inorganic materials(IM-DS) were characterized and used for the removal of praseodymium(Pr) from aqueous solutions. Quartz, albite, and kaolinite were found in the sediment by X-ray diffraction. Kinetic data fit well to a pseudo second-order model, the equilibrium time for DS and IM-DS was 2 h and 3 min, respectively, and the adsorption capacity was higher for Pr/DS(qe= 4.91 mg/g) than for Pr/IM-DS(qe= 3.01 mg/g) in these conditions. Pr/DS and Pr/IM-DS data isotherms were in agreement with the Langmuir-Freundlich model and the maximum adsorption capacities were 4.95 and 4.01 mg/g, respectively. Both processes are exothermic(enthalpy change, ΔH0=-22.8 and-21.8 k J/mol for DS and IM-DS, respectively), the increase of the randomness is small, and the feasibility and spontaneity are low. Praseodymium was desorbed by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium(EDTA-Na2), sodium chloride, nitric, citric, and humic acids solutions, and one hundred percent of praseodymium was desorbed by the EDTA-Na2solution. The Pr2(EDTA)3(praseodymium ethylenediaminetetraacetate) complex was completely desorbed from both materials(DS and IM-DS). Distribution coefficients(KD) depend upon praseodymium concentration,temperature, p H, and the kind of adsorbent. Chemical reactions of praseodymium with kaolinite and iron minerals could explain the adsorption.

Estrogen receptor modulators are compounds of interest because of their estrogenic agonistic/antagonistic effects and tissue specificity. These compounds have many clinical applications, particularly for breast cancer treatment and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, as well as for the treatment of climacteric symptoms. Similar to estrogens, neuroprotective effects of estrogen receptor modulators have been described in different models. However, the mechanisms of action of these compounds in the central nervous system have not been fully described. We conducted a systematic search to investigate the effects of estrogen receptor modulators in the central nervous system, focusing on the modulation of cytoskeletal proteins. We found that raloxifene, tamoxifen, and tibolone modulate some cytoskeletal proteins such as tau, microtuble-associated protein 1（MAP1）, MAP2, neurofilament 38（NF38） by different mechanisms of action and at different levels： neuronal microfilaments, intermediate filaments, and microtubule-associated proteins. Finally, we emphasize the importance of the study of these compounds in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases since they present the benefits of estrogens without their side effects.

Cloud forest ecosystems of the Latin American tropics are highly threatened by changes in land-use such as expanding croplands and livestock pastures that promote shifts in the structure and composition of plant communities in these ***,shade coffee plantations represent a forest management alternative that has been shown to maintain biodiversity in these *** this study,we evaluated changes in the composition,diversity,and structure of Mexican cloud-forest woody species for three land use categories:cattle pastures,shade coffee plantations and advanced succession *** each category,fifteen 0.28-ha plots were established and the composition and diversity of vegetation was *** of species was analyzed using ordination methods,and alpha diversity was compared using Hill ***-seven woody species belonging to 40 families were *** richness and diversity was high in both the advanced successional forest and coffee plantations compared to cattle *** composition and structure was similar between late succession forests and coffee plantations with both land uses also being more structurally complex than cattle *** results show how shade coffee cultivation is a land-use activity that maintains woody plant communities in a manner that aligns with biodiversity conservation.

Ankle and foot mechanics in individuals with chronic ankle instability during shod walking and barefoot walking:A cross-sectional study

Purpose:This study evaluated the angular kinematic and moment of the ankle and foot during shod walking and barefoot walking in individuals with unilateral chronic ankle instability(CAI).Methods:Recreational soccer players with unilateral CAI were recruited for this cross sectional study conducted between January and August 2019.A total of 40 participants were screened for eligibility but only 31 met the inclusion criteria based on the methods of Delahunt et al and Gribble et *** for 3 participants not attending the evaluation session,28 participants were finally included.A three dimensional motion analysis system made up of ProReflex motion capture unit and an AMTIb Kistler force plate,embedded in the middle of nine meter walkway,were used to assess the ankle and foot angles and moment during shod walking and barefoot walking conditions.A Statistical Package for Social Sciences(version 20.0)was used to analyze ***:During shod walking,the ankle joint plantar-flexion range of motion(ROM)at 10%of the gait cycle(GC)and dorsiflexion ROM at 30%of the GC were significantly higher than those during barefoot walking for both feet(p=0.001,0.001,0.027,and 0.036 respectively).The inversion ROM during shod walking was significantly higher than that during barefoot walking for both feet at 10%and 30%of the GC(p=0.***.0.001,0.001,and 0.042 respectively).At 10%of the GC,the eversion moment was significantly higher between barefoot and shod walking for both feet(both p=0.001).At 30%of the GC,there was no significant difference between shod and barefoot walking plantar-flexion moment of both feet(p=0.975 and 0.763 respectively),and the eversion moment of both feet(p=0.116 and 0.101 respectively).Conclusion:At the early stance,shod walking increases the ankle plantar-flexion and foot inversion ROM,and decreases the eversion moment for both feet in subjects with unilateral ***,the foot wearing condition should be considered during evaluation of ankle and foot

Oxidative stress （OS） is a key process in the development of many neurodegenerative diseases, memory disorders, and other pathological processes related to aging. Tibolone （TIB）, a synthetic hormone used as a treatment for menopausal ymptoms, decreases lipoperoxidation levels, prevents memory impairment and learning disability caused by ozone （O3） exposure. However, it is not clear if TIB could prevent the increase in phosphorylation induced by oxidative stress of the microtubule-associated protein Tau. In this study, the effects of TIB at different times of administration on the phosphorylation of Tau, the activation of glycogen synthase kinase-3β （GSK3β）, and the inactivation of Akt and phosphatases PP2A and PTEN induced by O3 exposure were assessed in adult male Wistar rats. Rats were divided into 10 groups： control group （ozone-free air plus vehicle [C]）, control ＋ TIB group （ozone-free air plus TIB 1 mg/kg [C ＋ TIB]）; 7,15, 30, and 60 days of ozone exposure groups [O3] and 7, 15, 30, and 60 days of TIB 1 mg/kg before ozone exposure groups [O3 ＋ TIB]. The effects of O3 exposure and TIB administration were assessed by western blot analysis of total and phosphorylated Tau, GSK3β, Akt, PP2A, and PTEN proteins and oxidative stress marker nitrotyrosine, and superoxide dismutase activity and lipid peroxidation of malondialdehyde by two different spectrophotometric methods （Marklund and TBARS, respectively）. We observed that O3 exposure increases Tau phosphorylation, which is correlated with decreased PP2A and PTEN protein levels, diminished Akt protein levels, and increased GSK3β protein levels in the hippocampus of adult male rats. The effects of O3 exposure were prevented by the long-term treatment （over 15 days） with TIB. Malondialdehyde and nitrotyrosine levels increased from 15 to 60 days of exposure to O3 in comparison to C group, and superoxide dismutase activity decreased. The potential of polyphenols for treating chronic-degenerative diseases(particularly neurodegenerative diseases)is ***,the selection of the best polyphenol for each treatment,the mechanisms by which they act,and their efficacy are frequently *** this review,the basics and the advances in the field,as well as suggestions for using natural and synthetic polyphenols alone or in a combinatorial strategy with stem cell assays,are compiled and ***,stem cells exhibit several responses when polyphenols are added to their environment,which could provide us with knowledge for advancing the elucidation of the origin of *** also,polyphenols are being included in the innovative strategies of novel therapies for treating neurodegenerative diseases as well as metabolic diseases related to *** this regard,flavonoid compounds are suggested as the best natural polyphenols due to their several mechanisms for acting in ameliorative effects;but increasing reports are involving other *** if some facts limiting bioactivity prevent them from conventional use,some natural polyphenols and derivatives hold the promise for being improved compounds,judged by their induced *** current results suggest polyphenols as enhancers of stem cell therapy against the targeted diseases.
