The EMG signal which is generated by the muscles activity diffuses to the skin surface of human body. This paper presents a pattern recognition system based on Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) algorithm for the classification of upper arm motions;where this algorithm was mainly used in face recognition and voice recognition. also a comparison between the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) algorithm is made for the classification of upper arm motions. The obtained results demonstrate superior performance of LDA to k-NN. The classification results give very accurate classification with very small classification errors. This paper is organized as follows: Muscle Anatomy, Data Classification Methods, Theory of Linear Discriminant Analysis, k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) algorithm, Modeling of EMG Pattern Recognition, EMG Data Generator, Electromyography Feature Extraction, Implemented System Results and Discussions, and finally, Conclusions. The proposed structure is simulated using MATLAB.

Nonlinear systems involving impulse effects, appear as a natural description of observed evolution phenomena of several real world problems, for example, many biological phenomena involving thresholds, bursting rhythm models in medicine and biology, optimal control models in economics, population dynamics, etc., do exhibit impulsive effects. In a recent paper [1], both real and complex Van der Pol oscillators were introduced and shown to exhibit chaotic limit cycles and in [2] an active control and chaos synchronization was introduced. In this paper, impulsive synchronization for the real and complex Van der Pol oscillators is systematically investigated. We derive analytical expressions for impulsive control functions and show that the dynamics of error evolution is globally stable, by constructing appropriate Lyapunov functions. This means that, for a relatively large set of initial conditions, the differences between the master and slave systems vanish exponentially and synchronization is achieved. Numerical results are obtained to test the validity of the analytical expressions and illustrate the efficiency of these techniques for inducing chaos synchronization in our nonlinear oscillators.

Load balancing is essential for efficient utilization of resources and enhancing the responsiveness of a computational grid, especially that hosts of services most frequently used, i.e. food, health and nutrition. Various techniques have been developed and applied;each has its own limitations due to the dynamic nature of the grid. Efficient load balancing can be achieved by an effective measure of the node’s/cluster’s utilization. In this paper, as a part of an NSTIP project # 10-INF1381-04 and in order to assess of FAQIH framework ability to support the load balance in a computational grid that hosts of food, health and nutrition inquire services. We detail the design and implementation of a proposed fuzzy-logic-based scheme for dynamic load balancing in grid computing services. The proposed scheme works by using a fuzzy logic inference system which uses some metrics to capture the variability of loads and specifies the state of each node per a cluster. Then, based on the overall nodes’ states, the state of the corresponding cluster will be defined in order to assign the newly arrived inquires such that load balancing among different clusters and nodes is accomplished. Many experiments are conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy-logic-based scheme to support the load balance where the results show that the proposed scheme achieves really satisfactory and consistently load balance than of other randomize approaches in grid computing services.

Sequential Remediation Processes for a Low Level Pesticide Wastewater

The aim of this study was to develop a remediation system for the treatment of a low-level pesticide wastewater that uses available onfarm organic matter as an absorption media, is capable of reducing the concentration of the pesticide to a safe level and is economically viable for implementation by farmers. The absorption capacity of chopped hay and soybean to the fungicide captan was evaluated under batch conditions and the effectiveness of the composting process in depredating captan in contaminated organic materials was evaluated. The results showed that both hay and soybean plant residues were very effective in absorbing 99.2% and 98.5% of captan form the wastewater after 4 hours, respectively. Because of its availability, hay can be used in an onfarm pesticide immobilization system that consists of shallow reinforced concrete pit (filled with hay) with steel bars across the top for machinery to roll onto and be washed. The wastewater can be retained for 24 hours which is a sufficient time for hay to absorb the captan. The contaminated hay can then be composted. The addition of used cooking oil raised the temperature of the composting mixture to 63?C. Small reductions in moisture content (from 60% to 58.9 %) and C:N ratio (from 30:1 to 28:1) were observed while reductions of 18.92%, 15.56% and 4.8% in the volatile solids, total carbon total Kjeldahl nitrogen were achieved after 10 d of composting, respectively. About 92.4% of the captan was degraded in the first 4 days of composting. Most of captan (92.4%) was degraded during the mesophilic stage (first 3 days). The degradation rate constant for the mesophilic stage (0.724 d-1) was 2.74 times the degradation rate constant for the thermophilic stage (0.264 d-1). An onfarm windrow composting process would be very effective in degrading captan contaminated hay. A chromatographic and aspectrophotometric methods for the quantitative determination of lansoprazole in pharmaceutical combinations and human plasma were developed. The analytical parameters were studied according to International Conference on Harmonization guidelines. The Flow Injection Analysis (FIA) method is based on the oxidation of lansoprazole by a known excess of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) in an acidic medium, followed by a reaction of excess oxidant with chloranilic acid (CAA) to bleach its purple color. The separation was carried out using RP-C18 column with a mobile phase composed of ACN: TEA: phosphate buffer (60: 0.2: 39.8 v/v) adjusted to pH = 4.

The present work deals with the equilibrium adsorption of Hg(II) onto carbonized Rosmarinus officinalis leaves (ACROL) as a new adsorbent from aqueous solution and it has been investigated. ACROL samples were prepared by physical carbonization at 773 K for 1 h. Titration method was used to determine the concentration of Hg(II) before and after adsorption onto ACROL by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, EDTA, as chelating agent. Batch equilibrium studies were carried out under different experimental conditions such as Hg(II) concentration and temperature. The relationship between the amount of Hg(II) onto ACROL can be described using four tow-parameter isotherm models. The equilibrium sorption data were analyzed using Freundlich, Langmuir, Dubinin-Radushkevich (DRK) and Temkin isotherms. The experimental results were found to fit the Langmuir isotherm model with a monolayer adsorption capacity of 588.2 mg/g at 318 K, while they were found to fit the Freundlich isotherm model at 298 K. The KL was decreased with increasing temperature, indicating a bond strength between Hg(II) and ACROL decreased with increasing temperature and sorption is exothermic. From DRK isotherm, free energy, E, was higher than 31 kJ/mol suggesting the Hg(II) adsorption onto ACROL chemical sorption. The thermodynamic studies revealed that the process is spontaneous nature of Hg(II) adsorption by ACROL and exothermic. The findings from this research show that ACROL has capability to remove Hg(II) from aqueous solutions.

Concentrated flow erosion processes are distinguished from splash and sheetflow processes in their enhanced ability to mobilize and transport large amounts of soil,water and dissolved *** rangelands,soil,nutrients and water are scarce and only narrow margins of resource losses are tolerable before crossing the sustainability *** these ecosystems,concentrated flow processes are perceived as indicators of degradation and often warrant the implementation of mitigation ***,this negative perception of concentrated flow processes may conflict with the need to improve understanding of the role of these transport vessels in redistributing water,soil and nutrients along the rangeland *** influences the development and erosion of concentrated flowpaths and has been the primary factor used to control and mitigate erosion on *** the ecohydrologic level,vegetation and concentrated flow pathways are engaged in a feedback relationship,the understanding of which might help improve rangeland management and restoration *** this paper,we review published literature on experimental and conceptual research pertaining to concentrated flow processes on rangelands to:(1)present the fundamental science underpinning concentrated flow erosion modeling in these landscapes,(2)discuss the influence of vegetation on these erosion processes,(3)evaluate the contribution of concentrated flow erosion to overall sediment budget and(4)identify knowledge gaps.

This paper presents a new 2D holographic microwave imaging array (HMIA) technique for medical imaging applications. The HMIA technique has been applied to early stage breast cancer detection and brain stroke detection. Computer models are developed to demonstrate the feasibility of detecting and localizing small brain strokes within a 2D numerical head model and breast tumours within a 3D numerical breast model using the HMIA technique. Experimental validation of the HMIA simulation model using a breast phantom has been undertaken and demonstrated a good agreement between experimental and simulated images. Simulation and experimental results showed that the proposed HMIA technique has the potential to become a powerful medical screening and diagnostic tool.

The problem of estimating an image corrupted by additive white Gaussian noise has been of interest for practical reasons. Non-linear denoising methods based on wavelets, have become popular but Multiwavelets outperform wavelets in image denoising. Multiwavelets are wavelets with several scaling and wavelet functions, offer simultaneously Orthogonality, Symmetry, Short support and Vanishing moments, which is not possible with ordinary (scalar) wavelets. These properties make Multiwavelets promising for image processing applications, such as image denoising. The aim of this paper is to apply various non-linear thresholding techniques such as hard, soft, universal, modified universal, fixed and multivariate thresholding in Multiwavelet transform domain such as Discrete Multiwavelet Transform, Symmetric Asymmetric (SA4), Chui Lian (CL), and Bi-Hermite (Bih52S) for different Multiwavelets at different levels, to denoise an image and determine the best one out of it. The performance of denoising algorithms and various thresholding are measured using quantitative performance measures such as, Mean Square Error (MSE), and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR). It is found that CL Multiwavelet transform in combination with modified universal thresholding has given best results.
