Bridges are the most useful part in the transportation *** disruption of the bridge structures may hamper the whole transportation *** the last recent tsunamis,numerous number of bridges were structurally damaged by the tsunami *** of proper provisions of tsunami forces in the design guidelines also contributes to the augmentations of the damage ***,proper evaluation of the tsunami forces on the bridge girder should be introduced in the design *** this study,laboratory experiments were carried out to reveal the damage mechanism of the bridge girder by assessing the exerted tsunami *** broken and unbroken waves were considered for the *** results showed that measured forces were larger for broken waves than those of unbroken *** force of the broken waves was 4.59 times as large as the hydrostatic ***,waves reached the peak value more rapidly for larger wave heights than those of smaller ***,a girder that is placed at a higher position is much vulnerable to tsunami hazard.

Determination of distribution and magnitude of active earth pressure is crucial in retaining wall designs. A number of analytical theories on active earth pressure were presented. Yet, there are limited studies on comparison between the theories. In this work, comparison between the theories with finite element analysis is done using the PLAXIs software. The comparative results show that in terms of distribution and magnitude of active earth pressure, RANKINE＇s theory possesses the highest match to the PLAXIs analysis. Parametric studies were also done to study the responses of active earth pressure distribution to varying parameters Increasing soil friction angle and wall friction causes decrease in active earth pressure. In contrast, active earth pressure increases with increasing soil unit weight and height of wall. RANK/NE＇s theory has the highest compatibility to finite element analysis among all theories, and utilization of this theory leads to proficient retaining wall design.

Rapid prototyping (RP) is a computerized fabrication technology that additively builds highly complex three-dimensional physical objects layer by layer using data generated by computer, for example CAD or digital graphic. Three-dimensional printing (3DP) is one of such technologies that employ ink-jet printing technology for processing powder materials. During fabrication, a printer head is used to print a liquid on to thin layers of powder following the object’s profile as generated by the system computer. This work looks at redesigning 3DP machine, using piezoelectric demand-mode technology head in order to improve accuracy, surface finishing and color quality of constructed models. The layers created with aforesaid system are between 25 to 150 μm (steps of 25 μm).

Three genetic mechanisms activate oncogenes in human neoplasms: 1) mutations, 2) gene amplification, and 3) chromosome rearrangements. These mechanisms result in either an alteration of protooncogene structure or an increase in protooncogene expression. The role of epigenetic aberrancies in carcinogenesis has been described earlier however to clinicians, the biological implications of epigenetic therapies to prevent cancer and the mechanisms involved have been a mystery. Furthermore, there is no biomarker suggested to track the carcinogenesis steps long before cancer develops, and this has caused a significant lack of proactive and preventive measures to be taken as all recommendations in preventive oncology are either deficiently and blindly made or through screening methods which are too late in the game. Here we explored a very different approach by applying our deepest understanding of epigenetics and carcinogenesis and even further we developed a framework where our clinical findings could translate to the research and vice versa by generating advanced and novel hypotheses on “how we get cancer”, by exploring the relation between the host and the tumor cells in a way no one had perceived before. The role of specific cancer stem cell pathways is dissected and how to inhibit each of these initiators using multitargeted epigenetic therapies and off-label medications are explained. We should admit that without considering this sophisticated amazing biological network, cancer will remain an unsolved challenge. Further, we were able to solve this unsolved puzzle by bridging the gap from a hypothetical point of view/hypothesis to possibilities that explain the clinical findings we had observed, and conclude that such an approach can completely change the way practitioners are treating cancer.

Ceria is widely used as a catalyst for soot combustion,but effects of Zr substitution on the reaction mechanism is *** present work elucidates effects of Zr substitution on soot combustion over cubic fluorite-structured *** nanostructured CeO_(2),Ce_(0.92)Zr_(0.08)O_(2),and Ce_(0.84)Zr_(0.16)O_(2)composed of 5-6 nm crystallites display T_(m-CO2)(the temperature at maximum CO_2 yield)at 383,355,and 375℃under 10 vol.%O_(2)/N_(2),*** size of agglomerate decreases from 165.5 to 51.9-57.3 nm,which is beneficial for the sootceria ***,Zr increases the amount of surface oxygen vacancies,generating more active oxygen(O_(2)^-and O^(-))for soot ***,the activities of Ce_(0.92)Zr_(0.08)O_(2)and Ce_(0.84)Zr_(0.16)O_(2)in soot combustion are better than that of CeO_(2).Although oxygen vacancies promote the migration of lattice O~(2-),the enriched surface Zr also inhibits the mobility of lattice O^(2-).Therefore,the T_(m-CO2)of Ce_(0.84)Zr_(0.1)6 O_(2)is higher than that of Ce_(0.92)Zr_(0.08)O_(2).Based on reaction kinetic study,soot in direct contact with ceria preferentially decomposes with low activation energy,while the oxidation of isolated soot occurs through diffusion with high activation *** obtained findings provide new understanding on the soot combustion over nanoceria.

Assessment of the Influence of sulfuric Acid/Hydrogen Peroxide mixture on Organic sulfur Reduction of High sulfur Coals and Their Chemical Composition

One of the contaminants in coal is sulphur. The adverse impact of sulfur on coal, such as environmental pollution, degradation of steel quality, and reduction of coal’s thermal value, has led to the attention of sulfur separation methods in recent decades. Leaching (chemical dissolution) is one of the best methods for desulfurising coal, reducing sulfur in coal. In this study, hydrogen peroxide as an oxidising agent on sulfuric acid yield in reducing sulfur types of coal and chemical structure and the organic texture of high sulfur coal was investigated. The experiments were designed using a three-level response surface methodology with four duplicate points and 27 experiments. The independent variables studied were temperature, time, stirring speed and ratio of sulfuric acid to hydrogen peroxide. Dependent variables included reduction percentage of total, pyritic and organic sulfur. This study showed that 99.99% of total sulfur, 30.11% of pyritic sulfur and 69.08% of organic sulfur were reduced. These values were obtained at a temperature of 60°C, time 120 min, stirring speed 200 rpm and 3:1 ratio of sulfuric acid to hydrogen peroxide. significant changes were observed by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) of the coal structure before and after desulphurisation. On the other hand, the studies showed no specific changes in the bonds related to the organic coal matrix. The results showed that this method could be used as a secure process for removing inorganic and organic sulfur without destroying the organic coal matrix.
