Rice and wheat provide nearly 40%of human calorie and protein *** share a common ancestor and belong to the Poaceae(grass)*** their genetic homology is crucial for developing new cultivars with enhanced *** wheat genes and gene families have been characterized based on their rice ***–wheat orthology can identify genetic regions that regulate similar traits in both ***–wheat comparative genomics can identify candidate wheat genes in a genomic region identified by association or QTL mapping,deduce their putative functions and biochemical pathways,and develop molecular markers for marker-assisted breeding.A knowledge of gene homology facilitates the transfer between crops of genes or genomic regions associated with desirable traits by genetic engineering,gene editing,or wide crossing.

Assessment of the Cost-returns and Profitability Patterns of Tomato Production in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State,Nigeria

The study examined profitability of tomato production in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State.A three-stage sampling technique was used to select 96 tomato *** were collected using a structured questionnaire and were analysed using descriptive statistics,farm budget model,and t-test *** results revealed that,the mean age of tomato producers was 38.94 years,92.48%were males,71.56%were married with the majority(95.44%)had family size ranging from 1-6 persons,and had 6.55 mean years of farming experience,having an average of 0.6 ha farm size ***,the result revealed that only 8.74%that have attained tertiary *** results also revealed average variable costs constituted 88.98%and 88.84%of the average total costs of production in the dry and rainy seasons *** per hectare average net income realised were found to be₦154,444.20($398.05)and₦39,725.14($102.38)in the dry and rainy seasons ***,the returns per naira invested was₦0.67($0.00173)in dry season and₦0.18($0.00046)in rainy season(Pels both in the short and long ***,inadequate capital was critical;which was attributed to lack of affordable sources of *** of storage and processing facilities were among the impediments to large scale tomato production in the study ***,improvement in the existing patterns and as well as the provision of adequate essential factors of production will help expand the present scale of ***,governments and other financial institutions should do more to provide soft loans to the farmers to improve efficiency.

Nephronophthisis-related ciliopathies(NPHP-RC)represent one of the most common causes of chronic kidney disease in the first three decades of life and are characterized by a broad genetic and clinical heterogeneity.1 To date,more than 90 genes have been identified that cause autosomalrecessive NPHP-RC if mutated,accounting for up to 60%of cases.1 Among these,homozygous deletions of NPHP1 are the most common *** genes localize to primary cilia,basal bodies,or the centrosome and lead to a primary ciliary disruption if mutated,thereby causing a broad phenotypical spectrum.1 Patients that suffer from NPHP-RC can either have an isolated renal phenotype,such as polyuria,polydipsia,decreased urinary concentration ability,and secondary enuresis due to loss of tubular function,or present with extrarenal symptoms including retinal degeneration,cerebellar vermis hypoplasia,or hepatic *** are often diagnosed in early adolescence,reaching end-stage renal disease before 25 years of age,but early onset and rapidly progressive forms of NPHP-RC also exist.1 Renal ultrasound indicates kidneys of normal or reduced renal length with increased echogenicity and corticomedullary cysts.

The Relation between Role of Serum Cortisol Level and Response to Various Respiratory Support Strategies among Preterm Infants

Introduction: Preterm infants are liable to various health problems including respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). There is variation in response to respiratory support. In preterm infants, cortisol hormone is secreted by the adrenocortical gland in response to stress. Objectives: To compare the serum cortisol levels in blood among preterm infants who needed different respiratory support strategies e.g. headbox, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), intubation surfactant extubation (INSURE) and mechanical ventilation (MV) and to correlate the cortisol levels to the severity of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Material and Methods: Observational prospective study that assessed the serum cortisol levels in preterm infants with RDS after initial respiratory support aged 28 - 34 gestational weeks that were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of Al Zahraa hospital of Al-Azhar University and Al-Estekama hospital between February 2019 and November 2019. Infants were classified into three groups, Group 1: 29 infants with severe RDS who needed a mechanical ventilator. Ten of them needed surfactant therapy. Group 2: 33 infants with moderate RDS who needed CPAP. Three of them needed surfactant therapy. Group 3: 28 infants with symptoms of mild RDS who needed headbox. None of them needed surfactant therapy. Blood samples were collected on the first day of life and were processed using the colorimetric ELISA method. BACKGROUND Alcoholic liver cirrhosis(ALC)is a chronic liver disease with varying disease *** of ALC are associated with poor *** To identify and assess trends of readmissions for ALC over an eight-year *** This retrospective interrupted trend study analysed 30-d readmissions of ALC in the United States from 2010 to 2018 using the National Readmissions *** for ALC was the reason for index admission obtained using the International Classification of Diseases codes(571.2 and K70.3X).Biodemographic characteristics and hospitalization trends were highlighted over time.A multivariate regression analysis model was used to calculate the trend for riskadjusted odds of 30-d all-cause ALC readmissions,ALC specific readmission rate,ALC readmission proportion,inpatient mortality,mean length of stay(LOS)and mean total hospital cost(THC)following adjustments for age,gender,grouped Charlson Comorbidity Index,insurance,mean household income,and hospital *** There was a trend towards increasing total 30-d readmissions of ALC from 7660 in 2010 to 15085 in 2018(P<0.001).Patients readmitted for ALC were noted to have an increasing comorbidity burden over *** noted a rise in the risk-adjusted 30-d all-cause readmission of ALC from 24.9%in 2010 to 29.9%in 2018(P<0.001).ALC-specific readmission rate increased from 6.3%in 2010 to 8.4%in 2018(P<0.001)while ALC readmission proportion increased from 31.4%in 2010 to 36.3%in 2018(P<0.001).Inpatient mortality for 30-d readmissions of ALC declined from 10.5%in 2010 to 8.2%in 2018(P=0.0079).However,there was a trend towards increasing LOS from 5.6 d in 2010 to 6.3 d in 2018(P<0.001)and increasing THC from 13790 dollars in 2010 to 17150 dollars in 2018(P<0.001).The total days of hospital stay attributable to 30-d readmissions of ALC increased by 119.2%while the total attributable hospital costs increased by 149%by the end of *** There was an increase in th
