The effect of monoethylphosphate （MEP, commercial available or synthesized） together with IL-2 on the selective proliferation of human γδT cells in Vitro from peripheral blood mononuclear cells （PBMC） of healthy donors and of cancer patients was investigated. The γδT cells were stimulated by MEP to proliferate in a dose-dependent manner. The effect of synthesized MEP was 10 times greater than that of commercial MEP. When the PBMCs of healthy donors were cultured for 25 d in the medium containing different concentrations of MEP, the total cell number increased about 1000-3000 fold; and the ratio of γδT cells reached to 70-80%. The selective expansion of γδT cells depended on the synergic action of MEP and IL-2. The bulk cultured γδT cells exhibited obvious cytotoxic activities against allogenic tumor cell lines （SQ-5,K562 alld Daudi） and autologous tumor cells. The culture system described here not only offers a simple method for obtaining a large number of γδT cells which may become a new effector in the adoptive immunotherapy, but also provides a useful model for the further studies of the structure and function of γδT cells in vitro.

The authors evaluated 57 parental inbred lines of maize hybrids disseminated in Southwest china for drought tolerance under drought-stressed and well-watered *** regression analyses between drought tolerant coefficients of the grain yield per plant and 15 morphological and physiological traits measured from a subset of 12 selected lines, identified traits 1 and 5,which were important for drought tolerance,at the seedling and reproductive stages respectively. Gene effects,combining abilities,and heritabilities of these traits were estimated using generation mean and diallel cross *** effect was more important than additive effect for the plant height,anthesis-silking interval(ASI), root weight,and the grain yield per plant,whereas,they were about equal for the leaf emergence *** variances of special combining ability(SCA)were about double that of the general combining ability(GCA)for plant height,ASI and grain yield per plant,although they were about equal for leaf emergence rate and root *** sense beritabilities of the five traits for the reproductive stage were not high(12.8-29.6%),although broad sense heritabilities for plant height, ASI,and grain yield were as high as 70-85%.A segregating population consisting of 183 Fplants from the cross N87-1 (drought tolerant)×9526(susceptible),was genotyped at 103 SSR loci and the Ffamilies were evaluated under two water *** quantitative trait loci(QTLs)(two for plant height,five for ASI,four for root biomass,and one for grain yield)were identified,most of which had overdominant gene *** chromosomal regions,such as those linked to markers umc1051(bin 4.08),umc2881(bin 4.03),and phi034(bin 7.02),had overlapping QTLs.

In this paper, a method is proposed to construct recombination nonuniform cosine-modulated filter banks (CMFBs) with a perfect-reconstruction property and with arbitrary filter lengths. In this filter bank (FB) structure, certain channels of an original M-channel uniform FB are merged by a set of transmultiplexers (TMUXs), yielding nonuniform outputs, and the length restrictions on the original CMFB and the recombination TMUXs are avoided, allowing them to have arbitrary filter lengths. By imposing certain improved matching conditions on the prototype filters, nonuniform FBs with arbitrary filter lengths and with good properties can be obtained. As a result, the flexibility of selecting modulation types and filter lengths is greatly increased in the design of recombination nonuniform CMFBs. Another benefit due to the flexibility is that the system delay can be reduced.

The strong economic growth in china is difficult to reconcile with its inefficient financial system. The puzzle of china＇s financial development and growth can be explained through a dynamic criterion of adaptive efficiency, rather than through allocative efficiency. Using the framework of an autoregressive distributed lag model, the present paper tests the hypothesis that the GDP growth rate is dependent on financial development along with other variables in china and Pakistan. The hypothesis cannot be rejected in both cases. However, the results show that economic growth has a negative relationship with credit to the private sector in china. We conclude that financial development is a source of china＇s high growth rate and that the banking system is still under an evolutionary process, involving the pursuit of social objectives instead of the sole objective of profit maximization. Our results provide some implications for other developing countries like Pakistan.
