In eukaryote, nuclear structure is a key component forthe functions of eukaryotic cells. More and more evidencesshow that the nuclear structure plays important role in re-gulating DNA replication. The nuclear structure providesa physical barrier for the replication licensing, participatesin the decision where DNA replication initiates, and orga-nizes replication proteins as replication fac.ory for DNAreplication. Through these works, new concepts on theregulation of DNA replication have emerged, which willbe discussed in this minireview.

We study the delayed periodic n-species Lotka-Volterra systems where the growth rate of eac. species is not always positive. The sufficient conditions for the extinction that are independent of the delays are obtained. Some known results are improved and generalized. Our results suggest that under some conditions, the introduction and the variance of the time delays can be both harmless and profitless. Discussion about the effect of time delays on the extinction of the system is also advanced.

In order to analyze the mechanism of immunomodulation by LPS on murine peritoneal suppressor mac.ophages, we have, using RNase protection assay,checked the changes of mRNA expression pattern of several cytokine genes during the *** has been found that, after treating peritoneal suppressor mac.ophages with LPS, mRNAs of IL-12 p35, IL-12 p40,IL-6 and IFN-γ are newly appeared, while those of IL-1α, IL-1β and IL-1Ra are increased and those of other cytokines, like TGF-β1 and MIF are not changed at *** seems certain that those cytokines, whose expression is increased by LPS stimulation, may be responsible for the functional changes of suppressor mac.ophages during immuno-modulation. Among these changes, the appearance of IL-12 mRNA may play a critical role, and, in this regard, the synergetic effect between IFN-γ and LPS on the increase of IL-12 p35 and IL-12 p40 mRNA expression is an interesting finding.

The wake stability of steady flow past a circular cylinder has been studiedexperimentally An impulse perturbation signal（very short in time, finite in amplitude） wasgiven to the wake from a small hole on the bac. of the cylinder, and its long time evolution inthe wake was detected by a hot film probe at a fixed point. The test Reynolds number rangeRe=30 ~ 320. The restult shows that （1）ahsolute instability exists in the wake when Re=55～320. （2） The absolute region extends from 0.5 < x/d < 0.7 ~ 1.0 to 0.5 < x/d < 2.3 ~ 2.5as Reynlods number increases from 55 to 200.

The thyroid hormones L-thyroxine and triiodo-L-thyronine have profound effects on postembryonic development of most vertebrates. Analysis of their ac.ion in mammals is vitiated by the exposure of the developing foetus to a number of maternal fac.ors which do not allow one to specifically define the role of thyroid hormone (TH)or that of other hormones and fac.ors that modulate its ac.ion. Amphibian metamorphosis is obligatorily dependent on TH which can initiate all the diverse physiological manifestations of this postembryonic developmental process(morphogenesis, cell death, re-structuring, etc.) in free-living embryos and larvae of most anurans. This article will first describe the salient features of metamorphosis and its control by TH and other hormones. Emphasis will be laid on the key role played by TH receptor (TR), in particular the phenomenon of TR gene autoinduction, in initiating the developmental ac.ion of TH. Finally, it will be argued that the findings on the control of amphibian metamorphosis enhance our understanding of the regulation of postembryonic development by TH in other vertebrate species.
