Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease characterised by joint pain followed by bone and joint destruction. Overabundance of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inadequate anti-inflammatory cytokines has been reported in rheumatoid arthritis. Abnormal liver function tests have also been reported in rheumatoid arthritis. The DMARD’s treated patients, as well as NSAID’s treated patients have shown increased risk of acute liver injury. Elevated activities of ALT and AST are more frequent in patients receiving salicylate and methotrexate. Reactive oxygen species, such as super oxide radical, hydroxyl radical etc. contribute significantly to tissue injury in rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis patients are reported to bear low levels of anti-oxidants, which indicates reduced anti-oxidant potential, thus impairing anti-oxidant balance. Although leaves of NAT have been extensively studied for their anti-inflammatory property, however, little is known about the other parts of the plant. In the present study, we studied different parts of NAT for their anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective and anti-oxidant properties.

Highlight: The present report reveals for the first time natural lentiviral infection of wild Indian NHPs, rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) and langurs (Semnopithecus entellus) by SIVs that are phylogenetically diverse from all known SIVs, including “SIVmac”, which infects captive rhesus monkeys. The novel SIVs are intriguingly homologous to HIV-1, based on serology and partial lentiviral genomic sequence analyses. Diverse lenti-viruses infect human and nonhuman primates (NHPs). There are more than 45 different “species-specific” simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIVs) that infect their cognate NHP hosts in natural habitats in Africa. Indian NHPs are not known to be infected by SIVs in the wild. Conventionally SIVs are named after their natural hosts, except for SIVmac, which infects captive rather than wild rhesus macaques. SIVmac is therefore a misnomer. It is a genetic variant of the African SIVsmm, which infects wild African sooty mangabey monkeys. SIVsmm is the progenitor of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-2), while SIVcpz that infects wild chimpanzees is the progenitor of HIV-1. Although natural infections cannot be easily studied in wild NHP populations, we have previously reported co-infection of wild Indian NHPs by other retroviruses: simian retroviruses (SRVs) and Simian Foamy viruses (SFV). Apart from zoonosis, transmission of pathogens from humans to animals: anthroponosis, has also been reported in literature.

Ductile failure in DWTT（Drop Weight Tear Test） at subzero temperatures is one of the key requirements for line pipe steels. As the temperature drops or thickness increases, the ductile failure mode is difficult to achieve in DWTT testing. JSW Steel has successfully developed new generation Nb-microalloyed line pipe steels for heavy gauges（up to 20mm） for grades up to API X-80 grade for the first time in India through hot strip mill. It has been observed that prior austenite grain boundaries act as major crack arresters due to the high angle of misorientation at the grain boundaries. In order to achieve ductile DWTT failure, the crack propagation by brittle Griffith cracks needs to be arrested by high angle boundaries with their interspacing lesser than that of the critical Griffith crack length. Hence refinement of prior austenite grain size which requires optimization of multiple dynamic and static recrystallisation phenomena coupled with reduced grain growth at rolling temperatures, leads to improved DWTT performance. This paper describes the various aspects of steel chemistry design and the hot rolling process optimization to achieve subzero temperature DWTT in thicker gauge line pipe steels. Multiple online trials have been conducted at JSW Steel, Vijayanagar works for achieving the same, such that the effects of chemistry and process variables on final microstructures and mechanical properties have been established. Further, a correlation table has been prepared for predicting DWTT transition temperature based on the largest prior austenite grain size in the transfer bar microstructure before entering into the finishing mill. This table has proven to be very useful in alloy design and in optimizing hot rolling process window to achieve superior DWTT performance for different end thicknesses in line pipe steels.

Radioactivity measurements were carried out around Maumba and Nguluku villages, two of the proposed sites for titanium mining in the coastal area of Kenya. Samples of surface soils were analyzed using a HPGe gamma spectrometer. The average activity concentrations for 226Ra, 232Th and 40K are 20.9 ±7.6, 27.6 ± 9.1 and 69.5 ± 16.5 Bqkg–1, respectively. The absorbed dose rates in air, calculated on the basis of the measured activity concentrations, range from 9.8 to 50.0 nGyh-1, with an average of 29.2 nGyh-1. These values are below the global population-weighted mean, and they should be considered when planning appropriate monitoring and surveillance programmes during the mining operation, as well as the reclamation and restoration programmes after mining.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide. India is still the highest TB burden country. There is a scarcity of data on TB knowledge from Rajasthan state of India. Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of knowledge about TB and services of TB control programme and to determine its correlates among rural population of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Methods: Cross-sectional community based study was carried out at Model Rural Health Research Unit, Jaipur, a unit of Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Results: Study reports the result from 1993 adult participants from 10 villages of 2 sub-districts of district Jaipur. About 88.9% of studied participants knew that TB is an infectious disease and it spreads from TB patient to healthy person in close contact. Only 22.3% of participants knew “DOTS is the treatment for TB”. While, only 58.9% knew “sputum is used for diagnosis of TB” at health centers. Scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and backward classes social groups knew less than the mainstream “General” social group. The observed difference was statistically significant (p 0.05). Logistic regression analysis estimated the relative contribution to knowledge status. Conclusion: The knowledge of study participants on transmission of tuberculosis was similar to knowledge of population in country wide study. They poorly knew sputum is used for diagnosing tuberculosis disease;socio-demographic inequity exists in this knowledge too. People from older age groups, underprivileged social groups and minority need extra educational activities.

ICRISAT’s pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) breeding program at Patancheru, India, has developed genetically diverse hybrid parents since 1980s. The present study investigated genetic diversity pattern between two groups of parents in this program, bred till 2004 and developed during 2004-2010. Combined analysis of 379 hybrid parents (current 166 parents and 213 previously developed hybrid parents) carried out using a set of highly polymorphic 28 SSRs detected 12.7 alleles per locus. An average of 8.5 and 8.7 SSR alleles per locus were found in previously developed and current parents, respectively, indicating marginal improvement in the levels of genetic diversity of hybrid parents in this program. Distance matrix differentiated these current and previously developed hybrid parents into 2 separate clusters, indicating infusion of new genetic variability over time as reflected by development of more genotype-specific alleles. Also, the seed and restorer parents were found clearly separated from each other in both the sets with few crossovers, indicating existence of two diverse and broad-based pools in hybrid parents of pearl millet. Restorer parents (R-lines) were found more diverse than seed parents (B-lines), as higher average gene diversity was detected among R-lines (0.70) than B-lines (0.56), though variation between B- and R-lines was found reduced in newly developed lines to 9.22% from 16.98% in previously developed lines. Results suggested that newly developed lines were as much divergent when compared with previously developed lines, indicating that current ICRISAT pearl millet breeding program was moving towards development of diverse new hybrid parental lines. The study suggested use of trait-specific donors in B- and R-lines separately to maintain sufficient genetic distance between seed and restorer breeding lines. Tuberculosis is one among top 10 causes of deaths worldwide. Access to effective diagnosis by every TB patient is one among five missions of Global Plan. Active case finding among vulnerable groups has been the key focus area of National Strategic Plan to control TB in India 2017-25. This cross-sectional study was carried out to find out the additional open cases of TB through active screening of general & rural population in selected villages of Jaipur, the capital district in Rajasthan state of India. An active screening team of trained staff visited each house-hold in selected study villages for interviewing the head of house-hold or other adult member available at the time of visit. Family members of age ≥ 15 years were screened for complain of chronic cough of duration 2 weeks or more with study questionnaire. Presumptive cases found at screening were referred for seeking medical consultations from nearest designated microscopy centre. The referred patients were followed up on telephone up to five times for results of medical consultancies. Laboratory technicians of catchment DMCs were also followed up for verification of results. Total 19,306 individuals were covered. Study included 52.8% male, 69.3% ≥ 15 years age, and 99.3% Hindu participants. There were total 153 presumptive TB patients. Out of these, total 10 cases were confirmed as TB. The yield of detection was 0.51 cases/1000 population screened.
