Numerical simulation of underground seasonal cold energy storage for a 10 MW solar thermal power plant in north-western China using TRNSYS

This paper aims to explore an efficient, cost-effective, and water-saving seasonal cold energy storage technique based on borehole heat exchangers to cool the condenser water in a 10 MW solar thermal power plant. The proposed seasonal cooling mechanism is designed for the areas under typical weather conditions to utilize the low ambient temperature during the winter season and to store cold energy. The main objective of this paper is to utilize the storage unit in the peak summer months to cool the condenser water and to replace the dry cooling system. Using the simulation platform transient system simulation program (TRNSYS), the borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) system model has been developed and the dynamic capacity of the system in the charging and discharging mode of cold energy for one-year operation is studied. The typical meteorological year (TMY) data of Dunhuang, Gansu province, in north-western China, is utilized to determine the lowest ambient temperature and operation time of the system to store cold energy. The proposed seasonal cooling system is capable of enhancing the efficiency of a solar thermal power plant up to 1.54% and 2.74% in comparison with the water-cooled condenser system and air-cooled condenser system respectively. The techno-economic assessment of the proposed technique also supports its integration with the condenser unit in the solar thermal power plant. This technique has also a great potential to save the water in desert areas.

This research focuses on design and calculations for the horizontal axis wind turbine to fulfill energy demands at small scales in Pakistan. This is the design to produce about 5 kilowatts of electricity to share the load of average home appliances. Area chosen for this research is Pasni, Balochistan in Pakistan to build the wind turbine for electricity. Design values are approximated by appropriate formulas of wind energy design. In current research, turbine blade profile is designed by blade element momentum(BEM) theory. Warlock wind turbine calculator is used to verify the design parameters like wind speed, tip speed ratio(TSR) and efficiency *** of wind speed, wind power, TSR, pitch angle, blade tip angle, number of blades, blade design and tower height on power coefficient are analyzed in this research. Maximum power coefficient is achieved at a designed velocity of 6 m/s. Design analysis is also performed on simulation software ANSYS Fluent. It is observed that designed velocity parameter of this research is very suitable for the turbine blade, so blade designing is perfect according to wind speed range.

In the previous couple of decades,techniques to reap energy and empower low voltage electronic devices have received outstanding *** of the methods based on the piezoelectric effect to harvest the energy from ambient vibrations have been ***’s an absence of experiment-based investigation which incorporates the microstructure analysis and crystal morphology of those energy harvest home ***,the impact of variable mechanical and thermal load conditions has seldom been studied within the previous literature to utilize the effectiveness of those materials in several practical applications like structural health monitoring(SHM),*** the proposed research work,scanning electron microscope(SEM)and energy dispersive x-ray(EDX)analysis are performed to examine the inside crystal morphology of PZT-5A and ensure the quality of the piezoelectric ***,the performance of piezoelectric vibration-based energy harvester has been investigated in the second phase of current research work under the variable mechanical and thermal load conditions through a regular series of ***’s been found that the output voltage of piezoelectric sensors will increase by increasing the applied load,whereas a decreasing trend in output voltage is noticed by increasing the applied temperature,resistance and *** the third part,a measuring setup is developed in the laboratory to further investigate the effectiveness of PZT-5A in practical applications such as electromechanical impedance(EMI)based structural health monitoring under the controlled heating ***,this analysis not only evaluates the performance of PZT sensors under the variable operating conditions but also encourages developing a temperature compensation approach in EMI-based SHM.

Structural health monitoring(SHM)is recognized as an efficient tool to interpret the reliability of a wide variety of *** identify the structural abnormality by utilizing the electromechanical coupling property of piezoelectric transducers,the electromechanical impedance(EMI)approach is ***,in real-time SHM applications,the monitored structure is exposed to several varying environmental and operating conditions(EOCs).The previous study has recognized the temperature variations as one of the serious EOCs that affect the optimal performance of the damage inspection *** this framework,an experimental setup is developed in current research to identify the presence of fatigue crack in stainless steel(304)beam using EMI approach and estimate the effect of temperature variations on the electrical impedance of the piezoelectric sensors.A regular series of experiments are executed in a controlled temperature environment(25°C–160°C)using 202 V1 Constant Temperature Drying Oven Chamber(Q/TBXR20-2005).It has been observed that the dielectric constantð"33 TÞwhich is recognized as the temperature-dependent constant of PZT sensor has sufficiently influenced the electrical impedance ***,the effective frequency shift(EFS)approach is optimized in term of significant temperature compensation for the current impedance signature of PZT sensor relative to the reference signature at the extended frequency bandwidth of the developed measurement system with better outcomes as compared to the previous literature ***,the current study also deals efficiently with the critical issue of the width of the frequency band for temperature compensation based on the frequency shift in *** results of the experimental study demonstrate that the proposed methodology is qualified for the damage inspection in real-time monitoring applications under the temperature *** is capable to exclude one of the major reasons of false fault d

The performance and reliability of structural components are greatly influenced by the presence of any abnormality in *** this purpose,structural health monitoring(SHM)is recognized as a necessary tool to ensure the safety precautions and efficiency of both mechanical and civil *** now,most of the previous work has emphasized the functioning of several SHM techniques and systematic changes in SHM ***,there exist insufficient data in the literature regarding the patent-based technological developments in the SHM research domain which might be a useful source of detailed information for worldwide research *** address this research gap,a method based on the Co-Operative Patent Classification(CPC)codes is proposed in the current *** proposed method includes the patent analysis of SHM in terms of its global publication trend and technology-based *** analysis is performed using patent database search tools,namely,IncoPat and *** period ranging from 2005 to 2019 is selected to retrieve the required patent documents.A new approach termed as Patents’value is utilized to investigate the technological impact of a patent in the form of forward citations,technical stability,and scope of *** identification of emerging SHM techniques and forecasting of vacant technology is also part of current research *** research results have revealed the increasing trend in the number of published patents each year related to various SHM *** this regard,China,the United States,and South Korea are notified as to the major depositor countries,***,mapping of patent data in this research is an effort to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method to demonstrate the development trends and dynamic inventions over the time in SHM research domain to achieve the optimal damage inspections of various mechanical components.

Numerous researchers in the energy field are engaged in a competitive race to advance hydrogen as a clean and environmentally friendly *** have been conducted on the different aspects of hydrogen,including its production,storage,transportation and *** catalytic methane decomposition technique for hydrogen production is an environmentally friendly process that avoids generating carbon dioxide gas,which contributes to the greenhouse *** play a crucial role in facilitating rapid,cost-effective and efficient production of hydrogen using this *** this study,reactive molecular dynamics simulations were employed to examine the impact of Pt7 cluster decoration on the surface of a Ni(110)catalyst,referred to as Pt7-Ni(110),on the rates of methane dissociation and molecular hydrogen *** reactive force field was employed to model the atomic interactions that enabled the formation and dissociation of chemical *** reactive molecular dynamics simulations using the Pt7-Ni(110)catalyst revealed a notable decrease in the number of methane molecules,specifically~11.89 molecules per *** rate was approximately four times higher than that of the simulation system utilizing a Ni(110)catalyst and approximately six times higher than that of the pure methane,no-catalyst *** number of hydrogen molecules generated during a simulation period of 150000 fs was greater on the Pt7-Ni(110)surface than in both the Ni(110)and pure methane *** was due to the presence of numerous dissociated hydrogen atoms on the Pt7-Ni(110)surface.

Structural health monitoring(SHM)is considered an effective approach to analyze the efficient working of several mechanical *** this purpose,ultrasonic guided waves can cover long-distance and assess large infrastructures in just a single test using a small number of ***,the working of the SHM mechanism can be affected by some sources of variations(i.e.,environmental).To improve the final results of ultrasonic guided wave inspections,it is necessary to highlight and attenuate these environmental *** loading parameters,temperature and humidity have been recognized as the core environmental sources of variations that affect the SHM sensing *** temperature has the most significant influence on SHM *** is still a need for extensive research to develop such a damage inspection approach that should be insensitive to environmental temperature *** this framework,the current research study will not only illuminate the effect of environmental temperature through different intelligent approaches but also suggest the standard mechanism to attenuate it in actual ultrasonic guided wave based ***,the work presented in this article addresses one of the open research challenges that are the identification of the effect of environmental and operating conditions in practical applications of ultrasonic guided waves and impedance-based SHM.

TiO_2/Ag modified penta-bismuth hepta-oxide nitrate and its adsorption performance for azo dye removal

A modified hydrophilic penta-bismuth hepta-oxide nitrate （Bi5O7NO3） surface was synthesized via a precipitation method using TiO2 and Ag as modified agents. The synthesized product was characterized by different analytical techniques. The removal efficiency was evaluated using mono- and di-sulphonated azo dyes as model pollutants. Different kinetic, isotherm and diffusion models were chosen to describe the adsorption process. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS） results revealed no noticeable differences in the chemical states of modified adsorbent when compared to pure BisOTNO3; however, the presence of hydrophilic centres such as TiO2 and Ag developed positively charged surface groups and improved its adsorption performance to a wide range of azo dyes. Dyes removal was found to be a function of adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, solution pH and temperature. The reduction of Langmuir 1,2-mixed order kinetics to the second or first-order kinetics could be successfully used to describe the adsorption of dyes onto the modified adsorbent. Mass transfer can be described by intra-particle diffusion at a certain stage, but it was not the rate limiting step that controlled the adsorption process. Homogenous behavior of adsorbent surface can be explored by applying Langmuir isotherm to fit the adsorption data.

Electrochemical Formation of Polypyrrole-carboxymethylcellulose Conducting Polymer Composite Films

The electrochemical preparation of polypyrrole-carboxymethylcellulose （PPY-CMC） conducting polymer composite films on indium tin oxide （ITO） glass electrode from an aqueous solution containing pyrrole monomer, ptoluenesulfonate electrolyte and carboxymethylcellulose insulating polymer is reported. The characterization by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR） shows that carboxymethylcellulose （CMC） has been successfully incorporated into polypyrrole structure forming PPY-CMC polymer composite films. The conductivity of the prepared composite films was found to increase with increaseing CMC concentration in pyrrole solution, The optical microscopic results show the influence of CMC concentration in the pyrrole solution over the morphological changes of the prepared films. The dynamic mechanical analysis （DMA） on the prepared PPY-CMC film reveals the higher plastic property of the PPY-CMC composite film.
