This paper presents a web-based system to predict the electricity *** proposed system captures the geographical location,weather forecast,and oil price for one week *** captured parameters are fed to a fuzzy-logic-based algorithm to calculate electric energy *** on predicted electricity prices,consumers can turn ON/OFF or reschedule operations of their home appliances to reduce their electricity *** proposed algorithm was developed and hosted in a utility server(U-server).On the consumer side,a home gateway(H-gateway),and a monitoring and control system was designed,built,and tested by using a single chip microcontroller.

As the Internet of things(IoT)technology is evolving,distributed solar energy resources can be operated,monitored,and controlled *** design of an IoT based solar energy system for smart irrigation is essential for regions around the world,which face water scarcity and power ***,such a system is designed in this *** proposed system utilizes a single board system-on-a-chip controller(the controller hereafter),which has built-in WiFi connectivity,and connections to a solar cell to provide the required operating *** controller reads the field soil moisture,humidity,and temperature sensors,and outputs appropriate actuation command signals to operate irrigation *** controller also monitors the underground water level,which is essential to prevent the pump motors from burning due to the level in the water *** proposed system has three modes of operations,*** local control mode,mobile monitoring-control mode,and fuzzy logic-based control *** the purpose of the proposed system validation,a prototype was designed,built,and tested.

-Air-conditioning （AC） systems are the major energy consumption units in residential and commercial buildings. In the context of smart grid, optimizing AC operations leads to substantial saving in energy consumption, reducing the consumer＇s bill and contributing to the environment by minimizing carbon emissions from generating stations. This paper presents a distributed AC energy management system for buildings by using networked master-slaves controller architecture. The proposed system was designed, simulated, and experimentally tested by using real AC units in a students＇ residence hall. Based on the students＇ class schedules, several operational scenarios were implemented and tested. The proposed system implementation leads to a 40% to 60% saving of the consumed energy by the tested units. The same energy management scheme can be applied and implemented in other commercial and residential buildings.

This paper presents the design, implementation and testing of an embedded system that integrates solar and storage energy resources to smart homes within the smart mierogrid. The proposed system provides the required home energy by installing renewable energy and storage devices. It also manages and schedules the power flow during peak and off-peak periods. In addition, a two-way communication protocol is developed to enable the home owners and the utility service provider to improve the energy flow and the consumption efficiency. The system can be an integral part for homes in a smart grid or smart microgrid power networks. A prototype for the proposed system was designed, implemented and tested by using a controlled load bank to simulate a scaled random real house consumption behavior. Three different scenarios were tested and the results and findings are reported. Moreover, data flow security among the home, home owners and utility server is developed to minimize cyber-attaeks.

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(OrFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric OrFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric OrFBs.

Security and safety remain paramount concerns for both governments and individuals *** today’s context,the frequency of crimes and terrorist attacks is alarmingly increasing,becoming increasingly intolerable to ***,there is a pressing need for swift identification of potential threats to preemptively alert law enforcement and security forces,thereby preventing potential attacks or violent *** advancements in big data analytics and deep learning have significantly enhanced the capabilities of computer vision in object detection,particularly in identifying *** paper introduces a novel automatic firearm detection surveillance system,utilizing a one-stage detection approach named MArIE(Mechanism for realtime Identification of Firearms).MArIE incorporates the Single Shot Multibox Detector(SSD)model,which has been specifically optimized to balance the speed-accuracy trade-off critical in firearm detection *** SSD model was further refined by integrating MobileNetV2 and InceptionV2 architectures for superior feature extraction *** experimental results demonstrate that this modified SSD configuration provides highly satisfactory performance,surpassing existing methods trained on the same dataset in terms of the critical speedaccuracy *** these innovations,MArIE sets a new standard in surveillance technology,offering a robust solution to enhance public safety effectively.

Vagus nerve stimulation(VNS)and stroke:Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability worldwide(Baig et al.,2023).There have been significant paradigm shifts in the management of acute ischemic stroke through mechanical *** chronic ischemic stroke,invasive VNS paired with rehabilitation is associated with a significant increase in upper limb motor recovery and is FDA-approved(Baig et al.,2023).There are no treatments of similar efficacy in acute intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)where several promising trials,e.g.,TICH-2,STOP-AUST,and TrAIGE did not show improvements in functional outcomes(Puy et al.,2023).

Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation,there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation,a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins,triggers of complement activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular *** effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human *** review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.
