A Monte Carlo-Based Approach for Groundwater Chemistry Inverse Modeling

Inverse geochemical modeling of groundwater entails identifying a set of geochemical reactions which can explain observed changes in water chemistry between two samples that are spatially related in some sense, such as two points along a flow pathway. A common inversion approach is to solve a set of simultaneous mass and electron balance equations involving water-rock and oxidation-reduction reactions that are consistent with the changes in concentrations of various aqueous components. However, this mass-balance approach does not test the thermodynamic favorability of the resulting model and provides limited insight into the model uncertainties. In this context, a Monte Carlo-based forward-inverse modeling method is proposed that generates probability distributions for model parameters which best match the observed data using the Metro-polis-Hastings search strategy. The forward model is based on the well-vetted PHREEQC geochemical model. The proposed modeling approach is applied to two test applications, one involving an inverse modeling example supplied with the PHREEQC code that entails groundwater interactions with a granitic rock mineral assemblage, and the other concerning the impact of fuel hydrocarbon bioattenuation on groundwater chemistry. In both examples, the forward-inverse approach is able to approximately reproduce observed water quality changes invoking mass transfer reactions that are all thermodynamically favorable.

目前市场上有很多种数据采集设备可用于在PC上记录数据．如National Instrument的LabVIEW，不过这类设备的传感器件开始越来越多地采用USB接口而不是RS232或其他传统接口。过去在嵌入式系统中应用USB设备需要性能相对较强的硬件，要带有USB Host控制器接口、RTOS以及USB软件驱动，结果因USB Host功能实施成本的原因设计工程师一直都不太愿意在小型8位或16位MCU系统上增加USB设备。但随着最新一代智能USB Host控制器IC的推出．与MCU配合使用不仅可为PC应用使用USB数据采集设备，而且还可将数据存储在低成本高容量的闪存盘上。

A demand for convenient eating options has led to an increase in foods eaten away from home, and consumers are looking for healthy options when they eat out. Increasing vegetable consumption is a key public health nutrition prior-ity. Although Asian menu items are considered a healthy option, there is little information about their relative health-fulness. This study aims to pilot a simple method for measuring the vegetable content of popular Asian dishes for use in nutrition education. Thirty vegetable containing take-out dishes from three Asian restaurants (Chinese, Thai and Singaporean) in Perth, Western Australia were photographed and weighted with, and without the vegetables. Standard 75 gram vegetable servings per dish and the average vegetable content between cuisines were compared. The mean vegetables servings per dish was 1.8 (0.25 to 5.5) with no statistical difference between cuisines (p > 0.05). The variety and amount of vegetables in individual dishes varied within each cuisine. Vegetarian dishes had the highest vegetable content and noodle and rice dishes the lowest (0.23 - 0.75 servings/dish). Digital imagery clearly, simply and quickly displayed the vegetable content of Asian dishes. The Asian take-out dishes were low in vegetables. Nutrition educators should encourage Asian food businesses to increase the vegetable content of their menus and advise customers to choose at least one vegetarian dish.
