Structural effects induced by dialysis-based purification of carbon nanomaterials

Dialysis plays a crucial role in the purification of nanomaterials but its impact on the structural properties of carbon nanomaterials was never ***,a carbon-based nanomaterial generated electrochemically in potassium phosphate buffer,was characterized before and after dialysis against pure *** is shown that dialysis affects the size of the carbon domains,structural organization,surface functionalization,oxidation degree of carbon,and grade of ***,dialysis drives the nanomaterial organization from discrete roundish carbon domains,with sizes ranging from 70 to 160 nm,towards linear stacking structures of small nanoparticles(m).In parallel,alcohol and ether(epoxide)surface groups evolve into more oxidized carbon groups(e.g.,ketone and ester groups).Investigation of the as-prepared nanomaterial by electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)revealed a resonance signal consistent with carbon-oxygen centred ***,this study brings to light the selective affinity of the carbon nanomaterial under study to capture Na^(+)ions,a property greatly enhanced by the dialysis process,and its high ability to trap oxygen,particularly before *** findings open new perspectives for the application of carbon-based nanomaterials and raise awareness of the importance of structural changes that can occur during the purification of carbon-based nanomaterials.

This study investigated and defined the optimal processing parameters for the electrospinning of polysulfone polymer solutions with N,*** of parameters such as solute concentration,electrical voltage,and working distance were correlated with the quality of the obtained nanofibers using morphological characterization via scanning electron microscopy(SEm).Carbonyl iron additive was dispersed in the polymer solutions,using ultrasonic tip,and the material processed via electrospinning with aforementioned parameters *** with the property of interaction with electromagnetic waves were *** dispersion of different concentrations of the additive and electromagnetic characterizations in the X-band of microwaves(8.2 and 12.4 GHz),using vector network analyzer(VNA)and rectangular waveguide,allowed the identification of the materials electromagnetic *** parameters allowed the calculation of reflected and transmitted energy by the material.

Program for Solar Water Heating Systems Based on the F-Chart method

This paper aims at presenting an application developed in Java for optimizing the design of centralized solar water heating systems with forced circulation, based on the f-chart method. The program uses data from the Brazilian Solar Atlas, performance data of flat plate collectors and thermal reservoirs from the standardized tests run within the Brazilian Labeling Program, and values of water consumption of appliances defined by the ABNT. The program finds the inclination of the collector that maximizes the annual solar fraction, or for the winter, and enables the use of arrays in series and parallel collectors. From the investment costs and O ＆ m （operations and maintenance） of solar heating systems, the program carries out economical analysis using classical parameters as net present value, discounted payback and internal rate of return. The program was validated through examples from the book of Duffle ＆ Beckman and also by comparison with the results from a project developed at UFRGS, having obtained good agreement.

Evolution of costs of cancer drugs in a Portuguese hospital

AIm:To analyze the costs of cancer drugs administered in a Portuguese Hospital compared with the Karolinska Institute ***:To evaluate spending on cancer drugs, we retrospectively analyzed data on the overall costs of cancer drugs, obtained at the Department of medical Oncology of the Centro Hospitalar de Entre douro e Vouga, between 2004 and 2010. In this comparative study we selected only drugs belonging to the following groups:chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and endocrine therapy. The selected drugs were further grouped according to their market placement year:≤ 1998, 1999 to 2002, 2003 to 2005, and 2006 to 2010. Drugs used as supportive therapy and bisphosphonates were ***:The overall costs of cancer drugs increased gradually between 2004 and 2008(from €1911947 to €3666284), with an increase in the number of patients treated during this period. The expenditure decreased in 2009(€3438155) and increased again in 2010(€3673116), but the costs increment was not the same as in previous years. Chemotherapy and targeted therapy were responsible for most of the expenditure. Drugs placed on the national market before 1999 accounted for more than 50% of the expenditure up to 2007. From 2008, these drugs represented less than 50% of the total expenditure. Cancer drugs placed between 1999 and 2002 accounted for 25%-35% of the costs in all the years studied, while drugs placed between 2003 and 2005 accounted for less than 30%. Drugs placed between 2006 and 2010 were responsible for less than 10% of the ***:In this study, older drugs were responsible for most of the expenditure up to 2007, which is in agreement with the Karolinska study.

Over the last decade,the oriented strand board(OSB)market presented meaningful ***,as a woodbased product,because of its anatomical structure and chemical composition,OSB can be damaged by biodeterioration *** that,the biodeterioration of OSB panels must be investigated to improve its *** this way,this work analyses the biological resistance against termites(Cryptotermes brevis and Nasutitermes corniger)of heat-treated OSB panels made with Eucalyptus wood glued with vegetable-based polyurethane-an ecofriendly and sustainable adhesive derived from castor *** panels were produced with different layers compositions(face:core:face of 25:50:25 and 30:40:30)in wood mass proportion and were submitted to postproduction heat treatment(at 175℃ and 200℃)replacing the use of chemical *** influence of the layers variation and heat treatment temperature were evaluated,and these results were compared with commercial panels(made from pinus wood with insecticide).The results showed that the heat treatment did not improve the resistance against termite ***,all the experimental panels presented a satisfactory performance that was compatible with the commercial panels produced with insecticide available in the Brazilian *** combination of Eucalyptus wood and castor oil adhesive to produce OSB,in any variation of layer composition,demonstrated natural resistance against termite attack compatible with the commercial panels,even without using chemical additives to increase durability.

The cardiovascular aspects of a ménière’s disease population——A pilot study

Introduction:mD is considered a rare *** adequate model that explains mD's pathophysiology is not well ***,the vascular theory of the disease has been ***:To characterize a mD population according to its cardiovascular risk and correlate it to the mD clinical ***:In this retrospective chart study the data of 31 mD patients observed between January 2017 and April 2018 in a tertiary university hospital were *** included in the study were diagnosed according to the Barany Society *** follow-ups,patients with autoimmune disease,atopy or allergy,major psychiatric disease and migraine were ***,gender,cardiovascular risk factors,audiometric and vestibular parameters,occurrence of mD attacks in the previous 6 months,vestibular medication in course and time course of mD were recorded and compared between groups(with and without cardiovascular risk factors).Results:31 patients(61.3%females)mean aged 60.3 years(±9.7)were studied.74%of the population had at least one risk factor and 51.6%of patients had attacks in the last 6 *** was a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of mD attacks in the last 6 months(p=0.014)between mD patients with and without risk *** PTA thresholds were higher and speech discrimination was lower in individuals with more cardiovascular risk ***:Treatment of mD focusing on vascular risk factors may allow a better control of symptoms and result in a decreased need for ablative procedures in this disorder.

Effect of solidification process parameters on dry sliding wear behavior of AlNiBi alloy

As-cast samples of the Al-3wt.%Ni-lwt.%Bi alloy resulting from the horizontal directional solidification process were subjected to the micro-abrasive wear *** effects of the solidification thermal and microstructural parameters,such as the growth and cooling rates and the cellular and primary dendritic spacings(VL and TR;λ1 and λc;respectively),were evaluated in the wear resistance of the investigated *** tribological parameters analyzed were the wear volume and rate(Vw and Rw).The solidification experiments and the wear tests were carried out by means of a water-cooled horizontal directional solidification device and a rotary-fixed ball wear machine,*** results show lower Vw and Rw values correspond to finer microstructures and the Vw dependence on λ1 is characterized by an experimental mathematical equation.A better distribution of Bi soft droplets and Al3Ni hard intermetallic particles is observed within the finer interdendritic region and,in consequence,the better wear resistance is achieved in as-cast samples with dendritic morphology rather than cellular morphology.A transition of wear mechanism from adhesive to abrasive is observed.

Effects of autoclaving on the physiological action of paclobutrazol

Besides being employed as an efficient plant growth retardant for field, garden and potted plants, paclobutrazol (PBZ) is also used in laboratory experiments, mainly in aseptic cultures, both in autoclaved and non-autoclaved form. Therefore it is not known if autoclaving can partial or completely inactivates the product, thus decreasing its efficacy. Thus a simple experiment was carried out to assess to what extent the autoclaving process can affect some growth components and dry mass accumulation and partition in sunflower seedlings, by employing the techniques of plant Growth Analysis. Autoclaving did not modify either qualitative or quantitatively any of the plant responses to PBZ as well their reversions by gibberellic acid.

Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1(HTLV-1)is associated with the development of HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis(HAm/TSP).It has been reported that the HTLV-1 proteins(specifically TAX and HBZ)can modulate FOXp3,resulting in an immune imbalance that can favor the progression of HAm/*** review aims to summarize the literature in order to clarify the relationship between the expression of HTLV-1 m RNAs and/or viral proteins(TAX and HBZ)with the expression of mRNA and/or protein FOXp3 and their correlation with HAm/TSP *** systematic review was conducted according to the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and *** search strategy was performed on the medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences Platform using subject *** screening,six articles were included in this *** studies suggested that TAX and HBZ have a directly proportional correlation with FOXp3 in individuals with HAm/TSP,which also presented an increased expression of FOXp3 compared to asymptomatic controls and/or healthy *** systematic review indicates that TAX and HBZ can interact with FOXp3 and that interaction may influence HAm/TSP development.
