This paper looks into the case of a school in Macao nominated as the first(and so far the only)China-Canada-United States English Immersion(CCUEI)centre in the Macao Special Administrative Region(Macao SAR)China for the experimentation and application of English immersion instruction(EI)in the K1-3 and Primary 1-2 *** on Krashen’s Input Hypothesis(1982)and Cummins’(2000)framework of instruction for language learning and academic achievement in the formal school context,the authors report their observations by analyzing the data collected from school teachers and participation in classes and by reflecting on their experiences,and suggest improvement that can be made to teachers’linguistic and communicative competence,in terms of quantity and quality of comprehensible input and expected output,and thus the sustainability of English immersion classrooms in a Chinese context.

The application of fungal biotechnology for nutrient value addition and improvement of agro-industrial wastes is critical in the development of protein-rich feed for *** study evaluated conventional methods for protein enrichment of cassava peels by solid substrate fermentation using mono-and co-cultures of Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma *** and non-sterile cassava peels inoculated with mono-cultures of *** or *** and co-cultures of *** and *** were spontaneously fermented for 21 days at 24℃.Fermented substrates were harvested at 0,7,14,and 21 days intervals,then oven-dried at 60℃,milled in a blender and further assayed for ash,carbohydrate,crude fibre,fat,and protein *** showed that percentage increase in protein contents after 21 days incubation of sterile cassava peels were 71.02%(for mono-culture of ***)and 71.64%(for mono-culture of ***);co-culture of *** and *** yielded a 129.00%increase in *** percentage increase in protein content of the non-sterile cassava peels was 126.80%(for mono-culture of ***)and 168.34%(for mono-culture of ***)in contrast with 63.47%obtained for the co-culture of *** and *** in non-sterile cassava peels,which was attributa.le to possible antibiosis due to microbial *** content significantly(p≤0.05)increased for 21 days while carbohydrate,crude fibre and fat contents in both sterile and non-sterile cassava peels decreased over the same *** findings underscore the fact that protein content of cassava peels can be significantly(p≤0.05)enriched through fungal biotechnology to produce value-added feed supplement for *** practical implications of these findings are discussed.

New and compiled detrital zircon U-Pb ages from the southern Neoproterozoic-Cambrian Ribeira Belt,SE Brazil,demonstrate laurentian affinity of the Embu Terrane which is statistica.ly distinct from the adjoining Apiaíand São Roque terranes with cratonic affinity(e.g.,São Francisco Craton).Zircon provenance results indicate that the type-area of the Embu Terrane is dominated by detrital zircon age modes at ca.1200 Ma,1400 Ma,and 1800 Ma,with maximum depositional age of ca.1000 *** contrast,the Apiaíand São Roque terranes are dominated by Paleoproterozoic detrital zircon ages(ca.2200-2000 Ma age dominant component),with maximum depositional ages of ca.1400 Ma and 1750 Ma,*** scaling(MDS)analysis of non-parametric similarity measurements on zircon age populations indicates for the first time that the Embu Terrane encompass two statistica.ly distinct detrital zircon age spectra,which is also reflected in the metamorphic zircon age *** statistical characterization of the Embu Terrane through populational metrics a.low a quantitative comparison with surrounding tectonic domains and rock samples classified such as *** results clea.ly highlight the distinction between the statistica.ly differentiated Embu Terrane from the Apiaíand São Roque terranes,supporting an a.lochthonous *** addition,we demonstrate that rocks samples previously classified as Embu-type are significantly dissimilar to the definition of Embu Terrane,fa.ling to support alternative tectonic models(e.g.,intracontinental evolution).Detrital zircon age spectra reveal that the Apiaíand São Roque terranes have similar zircon provenance to domains sourced from the São Francisco Craton,whereas detrital zircon populations from the Embu Terrane have greater affinity with SW laurentia basins(and their inferred sediment sources),consistent with previous ***,we interpret the Embu Terrane as a Rodinia descendant developed along the active margin o

Cancer is a highly heterogeneous group of diseases that despite improved treatments remain prevalent accounting for over 14 million new cases and 8.2 million deaths per year. Studies into the process of carcinogenesis are limited by lack of appropriate models for the development and pathogenesis of the disease based on human tissues. Primary culture of patient samples can help but is difficult to grow for a number of tissues. A potential opportunity to overcome these barriers is based on the landmark study by Yamanaka which demonstrated the ability of four factors;Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc to reprogram human somatic cells in to pluripotency. These cells were termed induced pluripotent stem cells(i PSCs) and display characteristic properties of embryonic stem cells. This technique has a wide range of potential uses including disease modelling, drug testing and transplantation studies. Interestingly i PSCs also share a number of characteristics with cancer cells including self-renewal and proliferation, expression of stem cell markers and altered metabolism. Recently, i PSCs have been generated from a number of human cancer cell lines and primary tumour samples from a range of cancers in an attempt to recapitulate the development of cancer and interrogate the underlying mechanisms involved. This review will outline the similarities between the reprogramming process and carcinogenesis, and how these similarities have been exploited to generate i PSC models for a number of cancers.
