为评估竞争压力下气候对栓皮栎(Quercus variabilis Bl.)径向生长的影响及树木对干旱的适应性,以太行山南麓地区混交林中的栓皮栎为研究对象,考虑不同竞争强度与竞争主要来源,结合月气象因子及干旱稳定性指标,分析竞争对栓皮栎径向生长的作用特征。结果表明:研究区栓皮栎径向生长主要受当年6-8月份的气候因子影响。竞争强度分组分析后发现,竞争强度的加剧削弱了栓皮栎径向生长对上一年温度的滞后响应,同时增加了对夏季相对湿度的敏感性。竞争显著提高以种间竞争为主的栓皮栎的干旱抵抗力(R_(t));相反,竞争压力对以种内竞争为主的栓皮栎的干旱恢复力(R_(c))、弹性力(R_(s))造成了负面影响。当竞争主要来自种间时,栓皮栎径向生长表现出更高的气候敏感性与干旱抵抗力。竞争调节了气候对栓皮栎生长的影响模式及干旱适应性程度,种间及种内的竞争调节作用是非等效的。

Rodents,including common voles(Microtus arvalis)and house mice(Mus musculus)cause immense pre-harvest and post-harvest ***,developing methods that mitigate these losses while maintaining their role in ecosystems is a *** plant secondary metabolites(PSM)which significantly reduce food intake of both species under laboratory conditions have been ***,before these can be used in rodent pest management,they must be tested under more natural conditions where other food sources are *** this study,the odors of 4 PSMs were evaluated for their repellent effects in experiments conducted in semi-natural *** treated with PSMs or untreated soil(experimental control)was placed in an underground box containing food(rolled oats).We quantified the number of visits to each box and could demonstrate that all 4 PSMs reduced the number of visits to treatment boxes in both rodent *** common voles the combination of methyl nonyl ketone+black pepper oil was the most repellent *** mice made fewer visits to all PSM boxes;boxes with the anthraquinone were visited ***,house mice consumed less food from boxes containing soil treated with all 4 *** results suggest that PSMs are repellent in murid and microtine rodents under semi-field *** addition,the future use of PSM odors for repelling both pest species,especially house mice,seems *** investigations with other PSMs,different concentrations as well as alternative application methods are needed to repel common voles from attractive crops.

This recently published cross-sectional study that included 99 men from Massachusetts General Hospital Fertility center, Boston, MA, USA, reports that a high intake of saturated fats was inversely associated with sperm concentration and total sperm count and a high intake of omega-3 polyunsaturated fats （PUFAs） was positively associated with sperm morphology. Although the study is based upon a highly selected group of males and is of cross-sectional nature, the findings are of interest, since poor semen quality is a frequent problem in some parts of the world and identification of modifiable risk factors is highly wanted.

Wetlands play an important role in the provision of ecosystem services,ranging from the regulation of hydrological systems to carbon sequestration and biodiversity *** paper reports the mapping of Indonesia’s wetland cover as a single thematic class,including peatlands,freshwater wetlands,and ***-interpreted training data were used to identify wetland formations including areas of likely past wetland extent that have been converted to other land *** indices(Shuttle Radar Topography Mission-derived)and optical(Landsat)and radar(PALSAR)image inputs were used to build a bagged classification tree model based on training data in order to generate a national-scale map of wetland extent at a 60 m spatial *** resulting wetland map covers 21.0%(39.6 Mha)of Indonesia’s land,including 25.2% of Sumatra(11.9 Mha),22.9% of Kalimantan(12.2 Mha),and 28.9% of Papua(11.8 Mha).Results agree with existing image-interpreted products from Indonesia’s Ministries of Forestry and Agriculture and Wetlands International(89% overall agreement),and with the Ministry of Forestry forest inventory data for Sumatra and Kalimantan(91% overall agreement).An internally consistent algorithm-derived national wetland extent map can be used to quantify changing rates of land conversion inside and outside of ***,wetlands extent can be used to efficiently allocate field resources in national assessments of wetland sub-types such as peatlands,which are a current focus of policies aiming to reduce carbon emissions from land use change.

At present, there is no reliable in vitro assembled prepubertal testis-like biomimetic organ culture system designed to assess the functional effects of human gonadotropins on Sertoli and Leydig cells. Spermatogenesis is regulated by endocrine, paracrine, and juxtacrine factors （testicular cross-talk）, mainly orchestrated by gonadotropins such as luteinizing hormone （LH） and follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH） that play a pivotal role by stimulating Leydig and Sertoli cells, respectively. The aim of our study was to set up an in vitro prepubertal porcine bioengineered construct as a new model for experimental studies on reassembled Sertoli and Leydig cells. We have evaluated Sertoli and Leydig cells obtained from 15- to 20-day-old neonatal pig testes in terms of purity and function. Subsequently, purified Sertoli and enriched Leydig cells were subjected to coincubation to obtain an in vitro prepubertal porcine testis-like culture system. We performed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） for anti-Mullerian hormone （AMH）, inhibin B, and testosterone secretion in the medium, and Real-lime PcR analysis of AMH, inhibin B, FSH-r, aromatase, LHr, and 3βHSD mRNA expression levels. This in vitro testis-like system was highly responsive to the effects of human gonadotropins and testosterone. AMH mRNA expression and secretion declined, and inhibin-B increased, while FSH-receptor expression was downregulated upon FSH/LH exposure/treatment. Finally, the production of testosterone was increased selectively upon LH treatment. In summary, our proposed model could help to better determine the action of human gonadotropins on Sertoli and Leydig cells. The potential usefulness of the system for shedding light into male infertility-related issues is evident.

Background: Built environments that are designed to provide accessible, attractive, and convenient locales promote regular physical activity(PA).Norway has great variability in its geographic, natural, and built environment features. Urban areas have well-developed built environment features, whereas the rural areas are less walkable and this may influence the mode of transport. In general, active transport is more common in urban centers. Further, public transportation is more developed in urban areas, whereas motorized transport may be more widespread in the rural areas. Despite this, in Sogn & Fjordane, a rural county in western Norway, high PA levels are frequently observed. Thus, the aims of this study were to(1) explore perceived built environment features and characterize their associations with objectively measured PA levels in Norwegian adults and(2) explore the differences in these correlates between Sogn & Fjordane and the rest of ***: In this cross-sectional study, participants used questionnaires to rate perceptions of their built environments, and their PA was objectively measured for 7 consecutive days using the Acti Graph GT1 M accelerometer. There were 972 Norwegian adults who were included in the study. The average age was 46.9 ± 6.5 years and 43.8% of participants were men. Data were analyzed using multiple linear ***: Total PA and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) were both associated with perceived walkability, the community perception score, and active transport for commuting(all p ≤ 0.004). We also observed geographic-area-specific associations: the community perception score was negatively associated with total PA and MVPA in the rest of Norway(p ≤ 0.012) but not in Sogn & Fjordane.
