We demonstrate a femtosecond mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser（EDFL） using a nickel oxide（Ni O） as a saturable absorber（SA）. Ni O nanoparticles are hosted into polyethylene oxide film and attached to fiber ferrule in the laser cavity. The Ni O-SA shows a 39% modulation depth with a 0.04 MW∕cm^2 saturation intensity. Our ring laser cavity based on erbium-doped active fiber with managed intracavity dispersion has the ability to generate ultrashort pulses with a full width at half-maximum（FWHM） of around 2.85 nm centered at 1561.8 *** pulses repeat at a frequency of 0.96 MHz and duration of 950 fs.

The Egyptian Pharaonic temples are traditionally made of different stones (limestone granite, diorite, or sandstone and quartzite) shaped into large heavy blocks or as Colossal statues. One of these is the colossi of Thutmose II and Amenhotep III at Karnak temple which made out of red quartzite from Gebel el-Ahmar, located at north-east of Cairo. Quartzite is one of the famous stones that were widely used during the heights of ancient Egyptian civilization. The Colossi of Thutmose II and Amenhotep III were subjected to many exogenous and endogenous deterioration factors which causes of a severe damage of the stone materials. In this study we documented the weathering of these quartzite colossal statues using field recording and laboratory analysis to evaluate their conservation state. Weathering and deterioration aspects noted through light optical microscope (LOM), polarizing microscope (PM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The mineralogical characterization was performed using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Energy dispersive analysis (EDX). The mineralogy and weathering study of quartzite on the Colossi of Thutmose II and Amenhotep III illustrate a succession of geochemical processes which have taken place at the colossi and it revealed that, they need for quick intervention.

Background: Blood groups system has key importance for transfusion safety and clinical practice. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the distribution of ABO blood groups and its association with blood donation in Saudi Arabia. Methodology: In this study, we collected information regarding blood donation from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail, Northern Saudi Arabia. Data about blood donation were obtained from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail. Results: The majority of the study population was found with group B+ representing 174 participants, followed by A+, O+, AB+, B-ve, A-ve, AB-ve and O-ve, representing 165, 153, 47, 29, 20, 9, and 7 participants, in this order. Conclusion: The major blood group among Saudi population is group B+ followed by group A+ and O+. Individuals with rare blood groups were less likely to participate in blood donation programs, which necessitate the need for educational programs using motivating factors.

微生物腐蚀是埋地管线内腐蚀和外腐蚀中普遍存在的主要危害之一,与腐蚀相关的微生物中最典型的是厌氧硫酸盐还原菌(SRB),好氧的铁氧化细菌(IOB)等。管线服役时会承受压力、杂散电流、阴极过保护和欠保护、环境因素变化等,这些腐蚀因素与微生物腐蚀协同作用,在管线的特殊位置会出现微生物诱导应力腐蚀开裂(SCC)、微生物诱导氢致开裂(HIC)、或者微生物诱导生物矿化导致的缝隙腐蚀和垢下腐蚀,严重威胁到管线的服役安全。本文主要介绍应力与SRB协同作用下SCC研究进展及相应的防护措施,为管线安全健康服役服务。

Lung Cancer Detection Using CT Image Based on 3D Convolutional Neural Network

Early detection of lung nodule is of great importance for the successful diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Many researchers have tried with diverse methods, such as thresholding, computer-aided diagnosis system, pattern recognition technique, backpropagation algorithm, etc. Recently, convolutional neural network (CNN) finds promising applications in many areas. In this research, we investigated 3D CNN to detect early lung cancer using LUNA 16 dataset. At first, we preprocessed raw image using thresholding technique. Then we used Vanilla 3D CNN classifier to determine whether the image is cancerous or non-cancerous. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve a detection accuracy of about 80% and it is a satisfactory performance compared to the existing technique.

Serum Transferrin Receptors in Children with Hypochromic Microcytic Anaemia

Hypochromic microcytic anaemia includes iron deficiency, anaemia of chronic disorders, beta thalassemia trait and sideroblastic anaemia. To rule out the cause of hypochromic microcytic anaemia is a diagnostic difficulty. The conventional laboratory tests used for diagnosis have few disadvantages. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is the most reliable method for assessment of body iron. Eighty four children were included in this study. They were further divided into four groups: iron deficiency anaemia (IDA), anaemia of chronic disorders (ACD), beta thalassemia trait (β TT) and controls. Children withIDAand ACD were diagnosed on the basis of history and serum iron profile. Subjects with β TT had HbA2 > 3.5%. sTfR were performed on all subjects. Level of sTfR in patients withIDAwas 5.79 μg/ml ± 1.3 μg/ml. In patients with anaemia of chronic disorders (ACD), β thalassemia trait and controls mean sTfR were 2.18 μg/ml ± 0.6 μg/ml, 2.1μg/ml ± 0.5 μg/ml and 2.0 μg/ml ± 0.5 μg/ml respectively. In the present work, an investigation on the application of solar energy to heat a sandy bed impregnated with calcium chloride for recovery of water from atmospheric air is presented. The study also aimed at evaluating the effects of different parameters on the productivity of the system during regeneration. These parameters include system design characteristics and the climatic conditions. An experimental unit has been designed and installed for this purpose in climatic conditions of Taif area, Saudi Arabia. The experimental unit which has a surface area of 0.5 m2, comprises a solar/desiccant collector unit containing sandy bed impregnated with calcium chloride. The sandy layer impregnated with desiccant is subjected to ambient atmosphere to absorb water vapor in the night. During the sunshine period, the layer is covered with glass layer where desiccant is regenerated and water vapor is condensed on the glass surface. Ambient temperature, bed temperature and temperature of glass surface are recorded. Also, the productivity of the system has been evaluated. Desiccant concentration at start of regeneration is selected on the basis of the climatic data of Al-Hada region, which is located at Taif area, Saudi Arabia. Experimental measurements show that about 1.0 liter per m2 of pure water can be regenerated from the desiccant bed at the climatic conditions of Taif. Liquid desiccant with initial concentration of 30% can be regenerated to a final concentration of about 44%. Desiccant concentration at start of regeneration is selected on the basis of the climatic data of Al-Hada region. The climate of Taif city is dry compared with that for Al-Hada region. This method for extracting water from atmospheric air is more suitable for Al-Hada region especially in the fall and winter.

The Research work comprises area of Punjab Platform, Sulaiman Foredeep and Eastern Part of Sulaiman Fold Belt (from east to west), which is further extended to Zamzama and Dadu area of Lower Indus Basin. Seismic data interpretation suggests a presence of a stratigraphic trap of Paleocene/Late Cretaceous age. It can act as a stratigraphic trap of reservoir quality for hydrocarbons. This feature is marked and discussed on various seismic sections. Sometimes it is difficult to locate this feature due to effect of folding, resulting from later compressions associated with a collision of Indian Plate. This structure could be explored for a hydrocarbon prospect in future. Such stratigraphic traps were not explored in the past.

Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy versus Ventriculo-Peritoneal Shunt for Infant Hydrocephalus

Introduction: Patients with hydrocephalus, which is the most pediatric neurological disorder, undergo Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion through third ventriculostomy or ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. Up to date, the optimal hydrocephalus treatment modality is not clear. Aim: We compared the outcome of endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) versus ventriculo-peritoneal shunt (VP shunt) as a second surgical intervention in management of Infant hydrocephalus concerning success rate and complications. Patients and Methods: We conducted an observational study of 52 children with hydrocephalus (congenital or acquired) in whom CSF diversion was performed using either ETV or VP shunt in randomized control trial. Results: During the period examined, 52 children, 26 underwent ETV and 26 underwent VP shunt. The mean age was 11.0 ± 4.3 months in ETV and 11.3 ± 4.7 months in VP shunt. Postoperative infection in the ETV group was lower than in the VP shunt group (23.1% vs. 53.8% P = 0.045). Regarding operating time, In ETV group operation duration was 46.9 min and 64.3 min in the V-P shunt group (P = 0.13). There was no statistically significant difference between the two study groups regarding the rate of obstruction, change in occipital frontal circumference (OFC) or the need of revision surgery. One year survival for VP shunt group vs. ETV group was 46.2% vs. 65.4% respectively. Conclusion: ETV associated with lower rates of postoperative infection and shorter operation time with no significant difference in rates of obstruction, change in OFC and revision surgery in comparison to VP shunt.
