Paleo-environmental conditions,paleoclimatic significance and effects of weathering on clay deposits in the Lower Benue trough,*** approach

Combined methods for mineralogical identifications were used to characterise the clay deposits within the Lower Benue trough of Nigeria to interpret paleo-environmental conditions,the paleoclimatic significance of the trough,and effects of weathering on the minerals as factors that favour its deposition/accumulation within the trough which host other important industrial minerals like coal,barite,limestone ***-sample random-powder XRD data and data for clay fractions deposited onto zero-background quartz plates were *** samples contained kaolinite,vermiculite,and traces of smectite,and the non-clay phases included quartz,microcline,and *** samples were unaffected after glycolation,confirming the absence of significant *** was characterized by the nature of its 10Åbasal peak with a width oftGA results support the presence of kaolinite,and the characteristic kaolinite O-H,Al-OH,Si-OH and Si-O-Al FtIR bands also confirmed its *** and book-like morphologies were observed under the SEM,typical of kaolinitic clay from in situ *** kaolinite abundance in these sediments is consistent with intense weathering of parent rocks rich in Al under wet/tropical paleo-climatic conditions with fresh and/or brackish water conditions in a continental *** variety of observed morphologies suggests that the deposits suffered more of chemical *** clay deposits in Lower Benue trough are quartz-rich,kaolinitic and derived from the chemical weathering of Al-rich source rocks.

Modulation effects of Cu modification and ligands (oxalate and borohydride) functionalization on Pt d-band center, upper d-band edge, and alloyed PtCe support acidity on semihydrogenation of acetylene

the modulating effects of Cu modification and oxalate or borohydride ligands functionalization on the structure,catalyst d-band center(εd),upper d-band edge(εu),and acetylene partial hydrogenation of expediently synthesized Ce alloyed Pt supported catalysts were ***,a 5 wt%Pt alloyed Ce was synthesized via flame spray *** PtCe sample was further supported on zeolite Y,ZY,(PtCe/ZY)and copper modified ZY(PtCe/Cu-ZY).Furthermore,the PtCe was supported on two other oxalate and borohydride ligands functionalized copper modified ZY(PtCe/CuX-ZY and PtCe/CuB-ZY,respectively).the high-angle annular darkfield scanning transmission electron microscopy(HAADF/StEM)data showed a reduction in the PtO average particle size from 2.65 nm in PtCeO_(2) to average 1.73,0.64,and 0.30 nm in PtCe/Cu-ZY,PtCe/CuX-ZY,and PtCe/CuB-ZY,which was corroborated by the electron energy-loss spectroscopy(EELS)results wherein nonhomogeneous mixing of elements was seen with segregated Pt clusters in the non-functionalized ***,both PtCe/CuX-ZY and PtCe/CuBZY samples showed near-perfect homogeneity with no distinct Pt *** measuredεu values for PtCe,PtCe/Cu-ZY,PtCe/CuX-ZY,and PtCe/CuB-ZY are+1.85,+0.40,-0.15,and-0.19 eV,*** positive values indicated strong metal-adsorbate bonding typical of large Pt sizes while the negative values indicated weak metal-adsorbate bonding due to highly downsized Pt *** ethylene yield(YC2H4)over the PtCe sample showed depletion as the reaction temperature increased,while it reflected maxima at 120℃ with 55.3%YC2H4 over PtCe/*** maxima shifted to 180℃ with enhanced YC2H4 of 71.4%in PtCe/*** the contrary,both PtCe/CuX-ZY and PtCe/CuB-ZY exhibited a monotonous increase in YC2H4 up to the maximum C_(2)H_(2)conversion with YC2H4 of 81.9%and 92.1%at 180 and 160℃,*** results showed that both the Cu modification and ligands functionalization were highly invaluable to enhance the properties and

Rare-earth and trace elements and hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions of Cretaceous kaolinitic sediments from the Lower Benue trough, Nigeria: provenance and paleoclimatic significance

this study evaluated the Cretaceous(Campanian–Maastrichtian) kaolinitic sediments of the Ajali/Mamu and Enugu/Nkporo Formations from the Lower Benue trough of Nigeria. A combined method of inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry and isotope ratio mass spectrometry was used to investigate trace and rareearth element geochemistry and hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions. these data were then used to infer the sediments' provenance and paleoclimatic conditions during their deposition. the sediments contained low concentrations of most trace elements, with the exceptions of Zr(651–1352 ppm), Ba(56–157 ppm), V(38–90 ppm),and Sr(15.1–59.6 ppm). Average values of Co and Ni were1.5 and 0.7 ppm, respectively. trace and rare earth element values were lower than corresponding values for upper continental crust and Post-Archean Australian Shale, with the exception of Zr. the samples showed only slight light rare-earth enrichment and nearly flat heavy rare-earth depletion patterns, with negative Eu and tm anomalies,typical of felsic sources. Geochemical parameters such as La/Sc, th/Sc, and th/Co ratios support that the kaolinitic sediments were derived from a felsic rock source, likely deposited in an oxic environment.^(18 )O values ranged from+ 15.4 to + 21.2% for the investigated samples, consistent with a residual material derived from chemicalweathering of felsic rock and redeposited in a sedimentary basin(typical values of + 19 to + 21.2%). While in the basin, the sediments experienced extended interactions with meteoric water enriched in d D and d16 O. However,the variation in d D and d16 O values for the investigated samples is attributed to the high temperature of formation(54–91 °C). the d D and d^(18 )O values suggest that the sediments, although obtained from different localities within the Lower Benue trough, formed under similar hot,tropical climatic conditions.

Objective:the analysis of changing definitions and perspectives of violating behaviors within cultural contexts will inform the responses and interventions that will mostly reduce the occurrences of family ***:this study used focus group discussions of purposively selected participants to generate data that were analyzed using content with themes of definition,perspectives,prevalent forms,persons mostly affected,perpetrators,and management strategies among the Yoruba ***:there were multiple words and descriptions in the local Yoruba language for abuse and violence,but no single word for either of the two *** forms of family violence identified were verbal assaults from parents to children,among couples,siblings,physical assault of children by parents,physical assault of parents by children,neglect of children,parents,spouses mostly wives,sexual harassment,and sexual *** of wives and children was perceived to be increasing,occurring in one in four *** harassment and sexual violence were perceived to be rare,but the latter not an issue in marriage.A variant of sexual“touching”said to be tolerated with unmarried young people was identified as common among this ethnic *** and gender were dominant factors in the use of common forms of *** approaches were methods of management of family violence but perceived ***:this study concluded that family violence is a common phenomenon occurring among family ***,formal acceptable interventions that will be appropriate for this ethnic subgroup are required.

Reducing costly falls after total knee arthroplasty

AIM to investigate whether adductor canal nerve block(ACB) reduces patient falls when compared to femoral nerve block(FNB) after total knee arthroplasty(tKA). MEtHODS We conducted an institutional review of all-cause falls after tKA from January 2013 to August 2016 using a quality improvement database. Our inclusion criteria were patients with diagnosis of primary knee osteoarthritis who underwent primary unilateral tKA with either a FNB or an ACB and sustained a fall during their hospitalization. We excluded patients who had revision tKA and extensor mechanism reconstruction. We also excluded patients with a history of post-traumatic arthritis, prior history of lower extremity fracture, history of neurological disease, or cerebrovascular disease. RESULtS A total of 834 patients had tKA with femoral nerve block and knee immobilizer(FNB + KI). Of those patients, 11(1.3%) experienced a fall during their hospital stay. In contrast, 791 patients had tKA with ACB. Of those patients, only one(0.13%) patient fall was recorded within this group. We used the Fisher's exact test to compare the differences between the two groups. the difference between the two groups achieves statistical significance(P = 0.006). We also found that 11 out of the 12 patients that fell had a right tKA procedure while one patient had a left tKA procedure. Nine out of twelve patients that fell were female, while only three patients were *** Given the reduction in the number of falls with ACB, it is recommended that ACB be considered the preferred analgesia for patients undergoing a tKA procedure.

N-doped ZnO thin films were deposited on 304L stainless steel through the pyrolysis of zinc acetate and ammonium acetate in different ratios at a temperature of 420 ℃ using metal organic chemical vapor *** and structural analyzes of the films were performed by using Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy and X-ray *** frictional behavior of the thin films and 304L stainless steel substrate was evaluated using a ball-on-flat configuration with reciprocating sliding under marginally lubricated and fully flooded *** alloy (2017) was used as ball counterface,while basestock synthetic polyalfaolefin oil (PAO10) without additives was used as *** flat and ball counterface surfaces were examined to assess the wear dimension and failure *** marginally lubricated condition,N-doped ZnO thin films provided significant reduction in friction,whereas the films have minimal or no effect in friction under fully flooded condition.N-doped ZnO thin films showed a significant effect in protecting the ball counterface as wear volume was reduced compared with that of the substrate under the marginally lubricated *** the fully flooded condition,with the exception of one of the films,the wear volume of the N-doped ZnO thin films ball reduced compared with that of the *** all the ball counterfaces for N-doped ZnO thin films under both conditions,wear occurred through abrasive mechanism of various degrees or mild ***,superfluous lubrication of N-doped ZnO thin films is not necessary to reduce friction and wear.

this paper examines the transport analysis, including both heat transfer and mass transfer, in hybrid nanofluid flow containing gyrotactic microorganisms towards a curved oscillatory surface. the influence of magnetic fields is also inspected in terms of their physical characteristics. to depict the phenomena of transport, modified versions of both Fick's and Fourier's laws are used. Additionally, the characteristics of both heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reactions are also incorporated. Utilizing a curvilinear coordinate system, the flow problem is formulated as partial differential equations(PDEs)for momentum, concentration, microorganism field, and energy. An analytical solution to the obtained flow equations is achieved utilizing the homotopy analysis method(HAM).the effects of significant flow parameters on the pressure and microorganism fields, velocity, oscillation velocity, concentration, and temperature distributions are shown via graphs. Furthermore, the variations in skin friction, mass transfer rate, heat transfer rate, and local motile number due to different involved parameters are presented in tables and are analyzed in detail. Graphical results indicate that the curves of velocity and temperature fields are enhanced as the values of the solid volume fraction variables *** is also verified that the concentration rate field decreases as the values of the homogeneous reaction strength parameter and the radius of curvature parameter increase, and it increases with the Schmidt number and the heterogeneous reaction strength *** outcomes show a favorable response of the motile number to advanced values of the Peclet number, the Schmidt number, the microorganism difference parameter, and the bio-convective Lewis number.

Effect of ethanedioic acid functionalization on Ni/Al_2O_3 catalytic hydrodeoxygenation and isomerization of octadec-9-enoic acid into biofuel: kinetics and Arrhenius parameters

the effect of ethanedioic acid（Ed A） functionalization on Al2O3 supported Ni catalyst was studied on the hydrodeoxygenation（HDO）, isomerization, kinetics and Arrhenius parameters of octadec-9-enoic acid（OA） into biofuel in this report. this was achieved via synthesis of two catalysts; the first, nickel alumina catalyst（Ni/Al2O3） was via the incorporation of inorganic Ni precursor into Al2O3; the second was via the incorporation nickel oxalate（Ni Ox） prepared by functionalization of Ni with Ed A into Al2O3 to obtain organometallic Ni Ox/Al2O3 catalyst. their characterization results showed that Ni species present in Ni/Al2O3 and Ni Ox/Al2O3 were 8.2% and 9.3%, respectively according to the energy dispersive X-ray result. Ni Ox/Al2O3 has comparably higher Ni content due to the Ed A functionalization which also increases its acidity and guarantees high Ni dispersion with weaker metal-support-interaction leading to highly reducible Ni as seen in the X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, tPR and Raman spectroscopy results. their activities tested on the HDO of OA showed that Ni Ox/Al2O3 did not only display the best catalytic and reusability abilities, but it also possesses isomerization ability due to its increased acidity. the Ni Ox/Al2O3 also has the highest rate constants evaluated using pseudo-first-order kinetics,but the least activation energy of 176 k J/mol in the biofuel formation step compared to 244 k J/mol evaluated when using Ni/Al2O3. the result is promising for future feasibility studies toward commercialization of catalytic HDO of OA into useful biofuel using organometallic catalysts.

Effects of Additives on Some Selected Properties of Base Sand

In this study, effects of sawdust, coal dust and iron filling additives at varied proportions on some selected properties of moulding sand were investigated. Consequently, cylindrical specimens with different percentages of additives were prepared based on standard procedures. the prepared specimens were subjected to basic moulding sand testing including moisture content, bulk density, porosity, permeability, green compression strength and green shear strength using standard methods and equipment. From the obtained test results, all the experimental additives were found to improve the selected moulding properties of the base (silica) sand. Moulding sand specimen with sawdust additive revealed a relatively better compaction as compared to moulding sand specimens with coal dust and iron filling additives respectively. the moisture absorbing strength of the moulds was also found to increase with increasing percentage of sawdust. Addition of coal dust to the moulding sand was found to improve sand porosity and permeability which results in less casting defects, and due to improved moisture absorbing strength of sawdust, moulding sand specimens that contained sawdust were equally found to exhibit good compaction with maximum green compressive strength of 108.99 kPa. Also, the combination of 25% sawdust, coal dust and iron filling in the moulding sand was found to produce mould with optimum green shear strength value of 54.49 kPa.

Effect of Heat treatments on Corrosion of Welded Low-Carbon Steel in Acid and Salt Environments

Effect of heat treatment on the corrosion of welded low-carbon steel in 0.3 M and 0.5 M of hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride environments at ambient temperature (25oC) has been investigated. Arc welded low-carbon steel sample of known composition were subjected to the corrosion reagents for 21 days (504 hours). pH and weight loss values were taken at interval of 3 days. thereafter, weight loss method was used to measure therate of corrosion attack on the heat treated samples at ambient temperature. Results obtained showed that at low concentration, the annealed sample exhibits better corrosion characteristic as compared to the normalized and quenched samples. However, at higher concentration the normalized sample exercised better service performance over the annealed and quenched samples. thequenched sample was found to have relatively low corrosion performance over the annealed and normalized samples at both low and high concentrations of the media.
