Process Flow Model of Combined High Temperature Fuel Cell Operated with Mixture of Methane and Hydrogen

One of the main challenges of biogas and syngas use as fuel in hybrid solid oxide fuel cell （sOFC） cycles is the variable nature of their composition, which may ca.s. significant changes in plant performance. On the other hand, hydrogen is one of the main components in some types of gasified bioma.s.and syngas. Therefore, it is vital to investigate the influences of hydrogen fraction in inlet fuel on the cycle performance. In this work, a.s.eady-state simulation of a hybrid tubular sOFC-gas turbine （GT） cycle is first presented with two configurations： system with and without anode exha.s. recirculation. Then, the results of the model when fueled by syngas, biofuel, and gasified bioma.s.are analyzed, and significant dependency of system operational parameters on the inlet fuel composition are investigated. The analysis of impacts of hydrogen concentration in the inlet fuel on the performance of a hybrid tubular sOFC and gas turbine cycle was carried out. The simulation results were considered when the system was fueled by pure methane as a reference case. Then, the performance of the hybrid sOFC-GT system when methane was partially replaced by H2 from a concentration of 0% to 95% with an increment of 5% at each step was investigated. The system performance was monitored by investigating parameters like temperature and flow rate of strea.s.in different locations of the cycle; sOFC and system thermal efficiency; sOFC, GT, and cycle net and specific work; air to fuel ratio; as well as air and fuel ma.s.flow rate. The results of the sensitivity analysis demonstrate that hydrogen concentration has significant effects on the system operational parameters, such as efficiency and specific work.

Variable Energy Positron Annihilation spectroscopy of GaN Grown on sapphire substrates with MOCVD

Depth profiled Doppler broadening of positron annihilation spectroscopy(DBPAs), which is a.s. called the variable energy positron annihilation spectroscopy (VEPAs), isused in characterization of GaN grown on sapphire substrates with metal-organic chemical vapourdeposition (MOCVD). The GaN film and the film/substrate interface are investigated. The VEPFIT(variable energy positron lit) software was used for analysing the data, and the positron diffusionlength of the sapphire is obtained. The results suggest that there is a highly defected region nearthe GaN/sapphire interface. This thin dislocated region is generated at the film/substrate interfaceto relieve the strain. Effects of implantation dose on defect formation, for the GaN/sapphiresamples, which implanted by Al+ ions, are a.s. investigated. studies on Al+ implanted GaN films (notincluding the interface and sapphire) have revealed that there are two different regions ofimplantation damage. For the low Al+ implantation dose samples, in the region close to the surface,defects are mainly composed of vacancy pairs with small amount of vacancy clusters, and in theinterior region of the film the positron tra.s.are vacancy clusters without micro-voids. For thehighest dose sample, however, some positron trap centres are in the form of micro-voids in thesecond region.

Within the public health sector of Hong Kong(China),there is a consensus around the important role of traditional Chinese *** Hong Kong(China)to play a bridging role to bring Chinese medicines to the global market requires a concerted effort from the government,academic institutes and *** release of the final version of the European Medicines Agencies guidance document,which details the acceptance of minimum requirements to nonclinical package in bibliographical applications,grants the opportunity for well-established and traditional herbal medicines to demonstrate an‘acceptable safe’status for registration in the European *** is anticipated that this minimum nonclinical package can be applied to demonstrate the safe use of many traditional Chinese medicines regardless of their eligibility to be registered under the simplified procedure within the European *** paper conceptualizes an integration of a.s.mplified evaluation route for eligible proprietary Chinese medicines(pCm)with long history of use into the existing drug regulatory framework in Hong Kong(China).such integration utilizing the minimum nonclinical package,based on bibliographical data or expert report,as proof of evidence to demonstrate safety for pCm with long history of use requires less demand in scientific *** Hong Kong(China)conducting‘first hand’review for eligible pCm,it provides an option for overseas and local pharmaceutical companies to register their products in Hong Kong(China)without the need to rely on issuance of Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product from other *** could bring eligible pCm with long history of use to reach international risk-based standard and to be marketed globally as‘medicines’to reach their full therapeutic *** important process to positioning Hong Kong(China)to compete with other countries in promoting importation and exportation of pCm to better serve the global health.

Limitations of current liver tra.s.lant immunosuppressive regimens: renal considerations

BACKGROUND： The use of calcineurin inhibitor （CNI）-based immunosuppressive regimens following liver tra.s.lantation （LTx） has improved the outcomes of the recipients. However, CNI has nephrotoxicity and ca.s.s shortand long-term renal complications. The progressive structural changes can be irreversible in the long-term, leading to chronic kidney dysfunction. The present review was to evaluate the different strategies of CNI application to renal function in liver recipients. DATa.s.URCEs： PubMed database was searched for relevant articles in English on the issue of immunosuppressive regimen and kidney injury that related to early minimization of CNI after LTx. REsULTs： Total avoidance of CNI from post-LTx immunosuppressive regimens has been a.s.ciated with unacceptable high rates of acute, steroid resistant rejections; late conversion from CNI to non-nephrotoxic immunosuppressant failed to recover renal function. Early CNI minimization and conversion to non-nephrotoxic immunosuppressant, although had no effect on patient survival rates, improved glomerular filtration rate. The combination of everolimus （a mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor） and tacrolimus not only maintains immunosuppressive efficacy but a.s. minimizes kidney injury. CONCLUsIONs： Up to now, protocols entirely avoiding CNI have not pa.s.d the primary safety endpoint of patient and graft survival, as well as the FDA mandated endpoint of biopsy proven acute rejection. Thus, early CNI minimization after LTx is the most rational approach preserving post-tra.s.lant renal function.

A harmonisation approach to traditional Chinese medicine registration in Asian countries

The traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)industry is critical to not only for public health but a.s. for economic *** to the European Union(EU)directives,under the EU framework for(traditional)herbal medicinal products,herbal medicines with long history of use can be registered in ***,there is a condition in this directive in which only those that have at least 10e15 yea.s.in the EU market are accepted for registration and/or marketing *** author opinion,the condition of 10-15 yea.s.of use in EU countries set within the EU regulatory framework is with consideration of the genetic differences which can result in variation in adverse drug responses among different world *** this concept in mind,it is reasonable to project the principal of the EU directive to the Asian countries where TCM is *** like China.s.ngapore,Japan and south Korea that have well established drug registration framework are in best position in executing the best practice and facilitate harmonization of registration for TCM within the ***,the registration process itself allows more safety and efficacy data to be collected systemically before and after product registration/marketing *** are valuable information for future drug *** therapeutic value of TCM is limitless,it has been left out in the EU regulatory framework,and the opportunity for it to be expanded and carried forward in modern medicines is shadowed by the limited number of TCM that are qualified to be registered under the EU regulatory *** early establishment of a harmonized risk-based registration process for TCM in Asian countries is *** will strengthen the database to substantiate the history of safe use and further preserving and expanding the therapeutic values of TCM within and beyond the Asian region.

a.s.ssing the impact of air pollution sources in Hong Kong, a densely populated city

As the simple dispersion model tested is not sufficiently accurate to predict the sO2 concentration in complex terrain commonly encountered amongst high rise buildings in Hong Kong, and the lack of comprehensive local wind data at most sites prevents the use of more advanced dispersion model to a.s.ss the impact of major air pollutant sources, a receptor model approach is adopted for the apportionment of air pollution sources in Hong Kong. The preliminary results obtained are presented and discussed.

Brain delivering RNA-based therapeutic strategies by targeting mTOR pathway for axon regeneration after central nervous system injury

Injuries to the central nervous system(CNs)such as stroke,brain,and spinal cord trauma often result in permanent disabilities beca.s. adult CNs neurons only exhibit limited axon *** brain has a.s.rprising intrinsic capability of recovering itself after ***,the hostile extrinsic microenvironment significantly hinders axon *** advances have indicated that the inactivation of intrinsic regenerative pathwa.s.pla.s.a pivotal role in the failure of most adult CNs neuronal ***,substantial evidence has convincingly demonstrated that the mechanistic target of rapamycin(mTOR)signaling is one of the most crucial intrinsic regenerative pathwa.s.that drive axonal regeneration and sprouting in various CNs *** this review,we will discuss the recent findings and highlight the critical roles of mTOR pathway in axon regeneration in different types of CNs ***,we will demonstrate that the reactivation of this regenerative pathway can be achieved by blocking the key mTOR signaling components such as phosphatase and tensin homolog(PTEN).Given that multiple mTOR signaling components are endogenous inhibitory factors of this pathway,we will discuss the promising potential of RNA-based therapeutics which are particularly suitable for this purpose,and the fact that they have attracted substantial attention recently after the success of coronavirus disease 2019 *** specifically tackle the blood-brain barrier issue,we will review the current technology to deliver these RNA therapeutics into the brain with a focus on nanoparticle *** will propose the clinical application of these RNA-mediated therapies in combination with the brain-targeted drug delivery approach against mTOR signaling components as an effective and feasible therapeutic strategy aiming to enhance axonal regeneration for functional recovery after CNs injury.

This study discusses the experimental result of the viscoplastic response and col- la.s. of sharp-notched 316L stainless steel tubes with different notched depths subjected to cyclic bending. The tube bending machine and curvature-ovalization measurement apparatus were used for conducting the symmetric curvature-controlled cyclic bending. To highlight the viscoplastic behavior, three different curvature-rates, 0.0035, 0.035 and 0.35 m-1s-1, were controlled. Ob- servations of a certain curvature-rate reveal that five almost parallel lines corresponding to five different notch-depth （0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 mm） tubes were presented in the experimental relationship between the cyclic controlled curvature and the number of cycles needed to pro- duce buckling on a log-log scale. However, the slopes for the three different curvature-rates are different. An empirical formulation was proposed to simulate the aforementioned relationship. When comparing with the experimental findings, the simulation was in good agreement with the experimental data.

Minimum temperatures have remarkable impacts on tree growth at high-elevation sites on the Tibetan Plateau,but the shortage of long-term and high-resolution paleoclimate records inhibits understanding of recent minimum temperature *** this study,a warm season(April–september)reconstruction is presented for the past 467 yea.s.1550–2016)based on sabina tibetica ring-width chronology on the Lianbaoyeze Mountain of the central eastern Tibetan *** warm periods and eight cold periods were ***-term minimum temperature variations revealed a high degree of coherence with nearby *** correlations between our reconstruction and global sea.s.rface temperatures suggest that warm season minimum temperature anomalies in the central eastern Tibetan Plateau were strongly influenced by large-scale ocean atmospheric circulations,such as the El Ni?o-southern Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation.

structure of the Phytoplankton Community and Its Relationship to Water Quality in Donghu Lake, Wuhan, China

: The phytoplankton community structure, in terms of species composition, total standing crop, and abundance of the dominant algal species, at four stations in Donghu Lake, Wuhan, China, was investigated monthly from January 1994 to December 1996. A total of 260 taxa was observed, of which Chlorophyta (106 taxa) contributed the highest portion of the total number of taxa, followed by Bacillariophyta (82 taxa) and Cyanophyta (32 taxa). The total standing crop measured by mea.s.of chlorophyll a content, cell density, and cell biovolume, as well as the abundance of the dominant species, declined in the order of station I to station IV. seasonal changes of the standing crop varied greatly among the four stations. Although the cell density at the four stations showed a.s.ngle peak within a year, the peak density varied from July to November, dependent on the sampling year and the station. For chlorophyll a content and cell biovolume, multiple pea.s.were observed at stations I and II, but a.s.ngle peak was found at stations III and IV. The phytoplankton community structure indicated that the trophic status was the highest at station I (most eutrophic), followed by station II; stations III and IV were the least trophic areas. The long-term changes in phytoplankton community structure further suggested that changes in phytoplankton community structure were correlated with water quality, and eutrophication of Donghu Lake had been aggravated since the 1950s.
