AIM: To evaluate whether there is a threshold sensitization level beyond which benefits of chronic steroid maintenance(CSM) emerge. METHODS: Using Organ Procurement and Transplant Network/United Network of Organ Sharing database, we compared the adjusted graft and patient survivals for CSM vs early steroid withdrawal(ESW) among patients who underwent deceased-donor kidney(DDK) transplantation from 2000 to 2008 who were stratified by peak-panel reactive antibody(peak-PrA) titers(0%-30%, 31%-60% and > 60%). All patients received perioperative induction therapy and maintenance immunosuppression based on calcineurin inhibitor(CNI) and mycophenolate mofetil(MMF).rESULTS: The study included 42851 patients. In the 0%-30% peak-PrA class, adjusted over-all graft-failure(Hr 1.11, 95%CI: 1.03-1.20, P = 0.009) and patientdeath(Hr 1.29, 95%CI: 1.16-1.43, P risks were higher and death-censored graft-failure risk(Hr 1.06, 95%CI: 0.98-1.14, P = 0.16) similar for CSM(n = 25218) vs ESW(n = 7399). Over-all(Hr 1.04, 95%CI: 0.85-1.28, P = 0.70) and death-censored(Hr 0.97, 95%CI: 0.78-1.21, P = 0.81) graft-failure risks were similar and patient-death risk(Hr 1.39, 95%CI: 1.03-1.87, P = 0.03) higher for CSM(n = 3495) vs ESW(n = 850) groups for 31%-60% peak-PrA class. In the > 60% peak-PrA class, adjusted overall graft-failure(Hr 0.90, 95%CI: 0.76-1.08, P = 0.25) and patientdeath(Hr 0.92, 95%CI: 0.71-1.17, P = 0.47) risks were similar and death-censored graft-failure risk lower(Hr 0.84, 95%CI: 0.71-0.99, P = 0.04) for CSM(n = 4966)vs ESW(n = 923).CONCLUSION: In DDK transplant recipients who underwent perioperative induction and CNI/MMF maintenance, CSM appears to be associated with increased risk for death with functioning graft in minimally-sensitized patients and improved death-censored graft survival in highly-sensitized patients.

The current IT cloud computing is playing a vital role in most of the areas such as Education, research, Health care, etc. The cloud computing technology involving in sensor networks embedded system and IOT (Internet of Things). At present scenario, the sensors collected the information from the particular environment, where the sensors are fixed and transfer the collected information to cloud storage, here the challenge is the data transmission i.e. data that traverse from sensor to cloud environment are the big issue and maximum number of data loss is very high especially in dynamic routing environment. If data loss is identified in any routing path then automatically the information will transfer to alternate routing path. In this paper, we introduce a new algorithm for automatic routing path selection that can be integrated with cloud technology. This algorithm supports when data loss is found in the particular path of a network, then it selects an alternate route to transfer the data. The proposed model is comparatively more efficient than the prior methodologies. The implementation of the proposed work is done on NS3 simulator, and the performance metric is analyzed.

Polymer blends have been obtained in the form of dimensionally stable and free standing films and their properties were characterized by different techniques. FTIr analysis and raman spectroscopic analysis cleared the hydrogen bonding intermolecular interaction between –CONH2 groups in Poly Acrylamide (PAM) and C-O-C and –CH2OH group in Poly Ethylene Oxide (PEO). From Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) the study shows that crystallinity is increasing with PEO wt%. From polymer interaction parameter we also show that the polymer blend is miscible. Thermal stability of films is investigated by Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) and derivative Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (DrTG). From UV-Vis absorption spectra, absorption band edge, direct/ indirect band gap and optical activation energy have been calculated.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a phenotypically heterogeneous disorder. The M4 subtype of AML is frequently associated with the cytogenetic marker inversion 16 and/or the presence of eosinophilia. Blast crisis is the aggressive phase of the triphasic chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), which is a disease with Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome as the major abnormality. In the present study, we report a 76-year-old patient suspected of having AML with eosinophilic differentiation (AML-M4), which in clinical tests resembles CML blast crisis with multiple chromosomal abnormalities. Isochromosome 21 [i(21)(q10)] was the most recurrent feature noted in metaphases with 46 chromosomes. ring chromosome, tetraploid endoreduplication, recurrent aneuploid clones with loss of X chromosome, monosomy 17, monosomy 7, and structural variation translocation (9;14) were also observed in this patient. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) confirmed the absence of Ph chromosome. This report shows how cytogenetic analyses revealed atypical structural aberrations in the M4 subtype of AML.

Enhancing the crop yield through capacity building programs: Application of double difference method for evaluation of drip capacity building program in Tamil Nadu State, India

A capacity building program on drip irrigation (TNDrIP) was undertaken in certain regions of the Indian State of Tamil Nadu during 2009-2010. An assessment of the impact of the program in terms of effective use of drip irrigation and increased crop yields was made in 2011 by applying double difference method (a combination of both with and without and before and after approaches). The results had indicated that the drip capacity building program resulted in a yield increase of 2.5 t/ha for Banana 1, 1.9 t/ha for Banana 2, 3.3 t/ha for sugarcane and 0.3 t/ha for turmeric. The conventional method using the before and after situations had shown a yield increase of 4.3 t/ha for Banana 1, 12.1 t/ha for Banana 2, 40.6 t/ha for sugarcane and 2.6 t/ha for turmeric. The conventional approach is highly upward biased in estimating the impact of the drip capacity building program and thus the double difference method will be an appropriate method to evaluate the impact of the programs that involve both with and without as well as before and after situations.

Hydrographical parameters and phytoplankton assemblages were determined along the Pondicherry, Parangipettai and Nagapattinam coastal waters, southeast coast of India. All the hydrographical parameters such as sea surface temperature, salinity, p H, total alkalinity, dissolved oxygen and nutrients like nitrate, nitrite, inorganic phosphate and reactive silicate, chlorophyll a and phytoplankton assemblages were studied for a period of five months(May, August, September 2010, March and November 2011). Over 121 species of phytoplankton represented by 93 species of diatoms, 16 species of dinoflagellates, 9 species of blue-green algae, 2 species of greens and 1 species of silicoflagellate were recorded. High phytoplankton species diversity was found in March 2011 when salinity and nitrate concentrations were low and reactive silicate and inorganic phosphates were moderate. Species diversity was low during May 2010 when increased sea surface temperature, salinity and low nutrients availability were observed. Coscinodiscus centralis, Diatoma vulgaris and Proboscia alata were dominant, especially Coscinodiscus sp. distributed in all stations whereas Skeletonema costatum, Odontella sinensis and Ditylum brightwellii were abundant in August and September 2010. From principal component analysis and multiple regression analysis, it is evident that variables like sea surface temperature and dissolved oxygen are the most important factors influencing the seasonal pattern of phytoplankton population.

Ba_(0.85)Ca_(0.15)(Ti1−xZrx)O_(3)(BCTZ)ceramics with x=0.05,0.10,_(0.15),0.20,0.25,0.30 were prepared by the solid-state reaction *** of the powders was carried out at 1100°C for 4 h and the green pellets were sintered at 1400°C for 2 h.X-ray diffraction patterns of the sintered pellets showed tetragonal splitting up to x=0.10 while the mixture of the rhombohedral/cubic phase appeared at higher ZrO_(2)*** piezoelectric charge constant d33=510 pC/N and strain(S=0.103%)were measured for BCT doped by 0.10 mol ZrO_(2).Dielectric constant,remnant polarization and saturation polarization also found maxima for this *** Curie temperature(TC)of the compositions decreased with increase in ZrO_(2)concentration and reached 98°C,87°C and 36°C at x=0.05,0.10,_(0.15)mol,*** remaining compositions have TC below the room temperature;therefore,they can be used for subzero/cryogenic *** scanning electron microscopy study revealed an increase in grain size with increase in ZrO_(2)concentration and confirmed the complete solubility of ZrO_(2)in the crystal ***,low ZrO_(2)-doped BCT compositions with high d33 could be suitable for low temperature(<80°C)applications.

Pure and Molybdenum (Mo) doped Potassium Titanyl Phosphate (KTP) inorganic crystals were grown by high temperature solution growth (HTSG) from poly phosphate (K6P4O13) flux using different KTP/Flux ratios. The pure and doped KTP crystals of size 20x13x5 mm3 and 7x5x2.5 mm3 respectively were grown successfully by spontaneous nucleation. The grown crystals were characterized by XrD, UV, FTIr and Hardness studies. Micro hardness studies show that the pure crystals are harder than the Mo doped crystals.
