The mismatch between the photovoltaic(PV)cells absorption and the solar irradiance on earth is one of the major limitations towards more efficient PV energy *** aspect was addressed by downshifting the solar irradiance on Earth through luminescent down-shifting layers based on lanthanidedoped surface-functionalized ionosilicas(ISs)embedded in poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)coated on the surface of commercial Si-based PV *** IS-PMMA hybrid materials exhibit efficient solar radiation harvesting(spectral overlap of^9.5×10^19 photons/(s·m2))and conversion(quantum yield^52%).The direct solar radiation and the down-shifted radiation are partially guided and lost through total internal reflection to the layer edges being unavailable for PV conversion of the coated PV *** tuning the down-shifting layer thickness,it also acts as luminescent solar concentrator enabling the collection of the guided radiation by flexible PV cells applied on the borders of the down-shifting layer leading to an enhancement of the PV energy conversion from^5%(in the case of the single-use of the luminescent down-shifting layer)to^13%comparing with the bare PV *** overall electrical output of the device resulted in an absolute external quantum efficiency increase of^32%for the optimized Eu^3+-based films in the UV spectral region(compared with the bare PV device,which is among the best values reported so far).

Th-and U-bearing minerals in the SE Mediterranean margin of Spain

This paper presents the first specific study of the Th-and U-bearing minerals, which were recently found in the SE Mediterranean margin of Spain (El Hoyazo area,Almeria province). These minerals are rEE phosphates (mainly monazite) which occur as amoeboidal-to-elongate inclusions,from around 10 120μm to 120μm, hosted in single garnet crystals from dacite lavas and metamorphic rocks from the El Hoyazo Volcanic Complex. Th and U contents are higher than 1 wt%, with 3.04 to 5.62wt% for Th02, and 0.7 to 1.75 wt% for UO2. Both elements are also found in xenotime (ThO2:0.24,UO2:0.27wt%). Given that the erosion of the volcanic source rocks has generated a “placer-type” deposit of monazite sands and that garnets (main carriers of monazite) are being commercialised, an environmental monitoring and management plan should be urgently executed in the area.

Anthropogenic stressors can favor the occurrence of noninfectious disease that can be worsened by the impact of opportunistic pathogens,making the epizootiology of environmental diseases difficult to *** incidence and impact of oral lesions in nestlings of a facultative scavenger species,the black kite Milvus migrans,were examined over seven breeding seasons in the highly degraded environment close to Madrid,*** found an overall prevalence of 31%of nestlings with oral lesions,with no clear spatial pattern in nests with affected and unaffected *** occurrence and number of oral lesions were negatively associated with nestling body condition and brood ***,where all siblings had oral lesions,were smaller than those where some or all siblings were apparently healthy,suggesting that oral disease could be causing nestling mortality and,consequently,brood size *** turn,nestling body condition was negatively affected by lesion occurrence,brood size,and laying *** these relationships were bidirectional,piecewise structural equation modeling analyses showed a greater negative effect of body condition on lesion occurrence than vice versa,indicating that nestlings in poorer body condition were more likely to develop oral lesions(which could contribute to aggravate their state of deterioration)than those in better *** from small broods were also more likely to have oral disease(directly or indirectly through their lower body condition)than nestlings from large *** that hatched last in the broods showed greater development stress than those that hatched *** stressors could trigger poor body condition,and contribute to microbiota dysbiosis-related *** further research is needed to determine the consequences for the long-term fitness of individuals,actions should be taken to mitigate adverse conditions that may favor the appearance of environmental diseases associatedwithpe

时至今日，我们已拥有多种降糖药物来应对2型糖尿病的不同病理缺陷。基于丰富的循证证据和临床实践经验，近期的糖尿病治疗指南推荐及早采用机制互补的药物联合方案，以帮助患者持续达到个体化的血糖控制目标。对于已使用基础胰岛素但血糖控制尚未达标的2型糖尿病患者，多项临床试验证明对其加用胰升糖素样肽1(GLP-1)受体激动剂有助于安全有效地控制血糖。基础胰岛素联合GLP-1受体激动剂治疗方案，通过互补的作用机制，在优化血糖控制的同时，较基础餐时胰岛素等方案显著降低低血糖风险，改善体重。因此，对于采用基础胰岛素治疗但血糖控制不佳的2型糖尿病患者应考虑增加GLP-1受体激动剂。

Generation of nanomaterials by reactive laser-synthesis in liquid

Nanomaterials with tailored structures and surface chemistry are in high demand, as these materials play increasingly important roles in biology, catalysis, energy storage, and manufacturing. Their heightened demand has attracted attention towards the development of synthesis routes, particularly, laser-synthesis techniques. These efforts drove the refinement of laser ablation in liquid(LAL) and related methods over the past two decades and have led to the emergence of reactive laser-synthesis techniques that exploit these methods’ characteristic, non-equilibrium conditions. reactive laser-synthesis approaches foster unique chemical reactions that enable the formation of composite products like multimetallic nanoparticles, supported nanostructures, and complex minerals. This review will examine emerging reactive laser-synthesis methods in the context of established methods like *** focus will be on the chemical reactions initiated within the laser plasma, with the goal of understanding how these reactions lead to the formation of unique nanomaterials. We will provide the first systematic review of laser reaction in liquid(LrL) in the literature, and bring a focus to the chemical reaction mechanisms in LAL and reactive-LAL techniques that have not yet been emphasized in reviews. Discussion of the current challenges and future investigative opportunities into reactive laser-synthesis will impart guidance for researchers interested in designing reactive laser-synthesis approaches to novel nanomaterial production.

Experimental analysis of infragravity waves in two eroded microtidal beaches

This work aims to contribute to the characterization and understanding ofinfragravity waves on two beaches with erosion problems. For this reason, we have used an array of ADCP and a pressure sensor to measure wave parameters and pressure inside and outside of the surf zone during the dry and rainy period in the beaches of Galerazamba and Manzanillo del Mar （both dissipative and eroded beaches） located in the Colombian Caribbean coast. Based on these measurements, we have carried out a spectral analysis in order to identify the frequency components that characterize the wave and its energy; thus, we identified the characteristic frequencies of iufragravity waves to finally filter the infragravity signal on each beach in different seasonal periods. Among the results of the Welch spectrum applied to surface elevation time series, we found that, the frequencies＇ energy of the sea-swell band decreases due to bottom friction and wave breaking as the wave approaches the shore, while the frequencies＇ energy of the infragravity band increases significantly. In addition, for the wavelet analysis, we could observe how the energy of the infragravity band, especially the lowest frequencies gain energy as the waves approaches the coast. Furthermore, based on the infragravity wave obtained from the extreme wave event registered during the field campaign we can conclude that the contribution of this signal is important in the erosion problems presented in the beaches of Galerazamba and Manzanillo del Mar. Finally, these results show the need to realize other studies that allow us to understand deeply, the role of infragravity waves on the morphological changes that occurs in these beaches.

A valuable number of works has been published about Hurwitz and Schur polynomials in order to known better their properties. For example it is known that the sets of Hurwitz and Schur polynomials are open and no convex sets. Besides, the set of monic Schur polynomials is contractible. Now we study this set using ideas from differential topology, and we prove that the space of Schur complex polynomials with positive leading coefficient, and the space of Hurwitz complex polynomials which leading coefficient having positive real part, have structure of trivial vector bundle, and each space of （Schur complex and real, Hurwitz complex） polynomials has a differential structure diffeomorphic to some known spaces.

Selenium is an essential trace mineral important for the maintenance of homeostasis in animals and *** evinces a strong antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and potential antimicrobial *** biological function is primarily achieved by its presence in selenoproteins as a form of *** deficiency may result in an array of health disorders,affecting many organs and systems;to prevent this,dietary supplementation,mainly in the forms of organic(i.e.,selenomethionine and selenocysteine)inorganic(i.e.,selenate and selenite)sources is *** pigs as well as other food animals,dietary selenium supplementation has been used for improving growth performance,immune function,and meat quality.A substantial body of knowledge demonstrates that dietary selenium supplementation is positively associated with overall animal health especially due to its immunomodulatory activity and protection from oxidative *** also possesses potential antiviral activity and this is achieved by protecting immune cells against oxidative damage and decreasing viral *** this review we endeavor to combine established and novel knowledge on the beneficial effects of dietary selenium supplementation,its antioxidant and immunomodulatory actions,and the putative antimicrobial effect ***,our review demonstrates the gaps in knowledge pertaining to the use of selenium as an antiviral,underscoring the need for further in vivo and in vitro studies,particularly in pigs.
