The distribution of the various organic and inorganic constituents and their influences on the combustion of coal has been comprehensively ***,the combustion characteristics of pulverized coal depend not only on rank but also on the composition,distribution,and combination of the *** the proximate and ultimate analyses,determining the macerals in coal involves the use of sophisticated microscopic instrumentation and *** this study,an attempt was made to predict the amount of macerals(vitrinite,inertinite,and liptinite)and total mineral matter from the Witbank Coalfields samples using the multiple input single output white-box artificial neural network(MISOWB-ANN),gene expression programming(GEP),multiple linear regression(MLr),and multiple nonlinear regression(MNLr).The predictive models obtained from the multiple soft computing models adopted are contrasted with one another using difference,efficiency,and composite statistical indicators to examine the appropriateness of the *** MISOWB-ANN provides a more reliable predictive model than the other three models with the lowest difference and highest efficiency and composite statistical indicators.

The need to feed the increasing world population with high quality protein and the enormous post-harvest losses of okra fruits necessitated the research on okra seeds in this *** flour(WF)of matured okra seed was processed to obtain defatted flour(DF),protein concentrate(PC)and protein isolate(PI),followed by hydrolysis of the protein isolate by three different proteases;pepsin(PHp),pancreatin(PHc)and trypsin(PHT)to produce *** okra seed flours,proteins and the hydrolysates were analyzed for changes in the functional groups using Fourier,Transform Infrared(FTIr),amino acid composition,solubility profile and some functional *** FTIr results showed the presence of N-H stretching,C=O stretching,C=N stretching N-H bending and C-N stretching in the *** hydrolysate had higher essential amino acids(51.32–53.01%)than unhydrolysed samples(36.31–37.99%).PI and WF had the highest water absorption and swelling capacities *** solubility profiles of the samples were minimal at pH 2–4 and then increased after the isoelectric *** PC was more soluble than PI between pH 2–*** foaming properties of the samples was least in the absence of salt but high in the presence of 0.5 M sodium *** emulsion capacity of the samples was least in the presence of 1.0 M *** in-vitro protein digestibility results showed that okra seed protein hydrolysates were more digestible(83.26–86.08%)than unhydrolyzed proteins(36.48–80.90%).The results of the antioxidant properties showed that PHp and PHT exhibited better radical scavenging and metal chelating activities respectively than the other *** study concluded that okra seed proteins and hydrolysates demonstrated potentials as ingredients in functional food preparation and this may be considered as a strategy to reducing the post-harvest losses of okra fruit and subsequently feeding the world with quality proteins.

Surfactant flooding is an enhanced oil recovery(EOr)method for recovering residual oil in the reservoir through mechanism of interfacial tension(IFT)reduction and wettability *** to toxicity and high cost associated with conventional surfactants,recent research has focussed on developing low-cost and environmentally benign ***,a low-cost green surfactant is extracted from Vernonia Amygdalina(VA)and appraised for EOr *** extracted surfactant was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIr)and High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography(HPLC).The IFT of the synthesized surfactant at the oil-water interface was determined using Kruss ***,the foam stability of the synthesized surfactant was ***,the wettability of the saponin based natural surfactant(SBNS)at the rock-fluid interface was analysed using Dataphysics drop shape *** result revealed that SBNS(1 wt%concentration)stabilized foam for longer periods with half-life of 1100 ***,the synthesized surfactant was effective in lowering the IFT of oil-water interface from 18 mN/m to 0.97 mN/***,SBNS altered the wettability of sandstone cores to water-wetting condition by reducing the contact angle from 118.5° to 45.7°.Overall,SBNS exhibit excellent properties desirable for EOr and thereby recommended as supplementary alternative to conventional surfactants.

Ultrasound is an unconventional method used to recovery oil,despite the report on the use of this technique,the focus has always been on the continuous application of *** the continuous ultrasound has its own limitation of high cost of production and maintenance of equipment because of high energy *** this study,the use of short duration,intermittent ultrasound was investigated,and the result compared with the continuous *** effect of viscosity and intensity on both intermittent and continuous ultrasound was also investigated.A 2D micro-model placed inside an ultrasonic bath under an ultrasound radiation was used,a stereo microscope with the camera mounted at the top of the micro-model recorded the displacement *** snapshot of each time interval was used to give the estimate in percentage(%)of the residual oil left in the *** results show that,short duration and intermittent ultrasound can recover more oil compared with the application using continuous ultrasound and longer ***,the use of intermittent ultrasound as a green and cost-effective technique is herein proposed.

Seepage or loss of the mix-water from the drilling muds into the porous and permeable formations is a common problem during drilling *** drilling mud design requires a good knowledge of sealing integrity and all the factors influencing the mud to bridge through fractures or pore throat of exposed *** circulation materials(LCMs)are commonly introduced into the drilling mud to prevent or minimize filtrate *** study investigates silica nanoparticle(SNP)derived from rice husk(rH)termed rH-SNP using the wet-milling method as an LCM inwater-based mud(WBM).The impact of the rH-SNP in the enhancement of rheology and filtrate loss control properties of WBM was ***,the sealing integrity of the rH-SNP in a 1 mm and 2 mm simulated fracture for 7 min was determined using a stainless-steel slotted filter *** performance of the developed rH-SNP was compared with the widely applied *** synthesized rH-SNP at amount of 2.0 wt% significantly enhanced the yield point and plastic viscosity of the WBM by 75% and 386%,respectively,and minimized the fluid loss of the WBM by 47% at 80°*** enhancement is due to the particles ability to spread and interact efficiently with the *** the use of 1 mm and 2 mm simulated fracture for 7 min,the mud loss volume of the base mud reduced by 50%,66.7%,86%,and 90%(for 1 mm)and 40%,65.7%,77.1%,and 80%(for 2 mm)with the inclusion of 0.5 wt%,1.0 wt%,1.5 wt%,and 2.0 wt% of rH-SNP,***,the results showed that rH-SNP enhanced the seal integrity of the drilling mud and was more resistant to deformation compared to the *** findings of this study can help for better understanding of the application of rH-SNP as a loss circulation agent owing to its superior ability to seal fractured formation compared with the often used nutshell.

The study investigated the improvement of slowly digestible starch fraction of cardaba banana via octenyl succinic anhydride(OSA)modification process.A nonlinear(response surface methodology[rSM]and artificial neural network[ANN])and linear(partial least square[PLS])modelswere employed and their predictabilitywas *** result revealed that all the modelling techniques were accurate in predicting the experimental *** optimized rSM values for the production of slowly digestible starch(SDS)fraction were OSA concentration of 4%,reaction time of 47.49 min,and pH of 10 with a predicted SDS value of 44.64%.Among the modelling techniques,ANNwas adjudged as the predictivemodel for improving the SDS *** regression coefficient coupled with the variable important in the projection(VIP)values of the PLS model indicated that the OSA concentrationwas themost important factors responsible for high SDS ***,a structural comparison of the optimized starch against native starch revealed the formation of high ordered crystalline structure of the starch due to the impregnation of the modifying agent to the hydroxyl group of the cardaba banana starch.

Data on the presence of organophosphate esters(OPEs)in drinking water and its significance as a pathway of exposure are *** this study,we measure for the first time,concentrations of eight OPEs in 50 UK drinking water *** mean concentrations of ∑8OPEs were:6.4 and 11 ng/L in bottled(n=25)and tap water samples(n=25),*** of ∑8OPEs in tap water(mean:11 ng/L)exceed significantly those in bottled water(mean:6.4 ng/L)(p˂0.01).Moreover,UK tap water is more contaminated with chlorinated,aryl-,and alkyl-OPEs than bottled *** predominant OPEs detected were:tris(butoxyethyl)phosphate(TBOEP),tris(2-chloroethyl)phosphate(TCEP),and tris(2-chloroisopropyl)phosphate(TCIPP)with arithmetic mean concentrations in the two water sample types ranging between(3.5e3.8 ng/L),(0.60-3.0 ng/L),and(1.02-2.9 ng/L),*** daily intakes(EDIs)(mean and high-end exposure)via drinking water for different sectors of the UK population were:infants(0.93 and 6.4 ng/kg bw/day)˃toddlers(0.46 and 3.1 ng/kg bw/day)˃children(0.35 and 2.3 ng/kg bw/day)˃adults(0.28 and 2.1 ng/kg bw/day).Based on these data,exposure to ∑8OPEs via drinking water is much lower than via:food,indoor dust ingestion,inhalation,and dermal uptake for adults and ***,our EDIs were lower than relevant reference dose(rfD)***,combining our drinking water ingestion data with exposure via other pathways revealed overall exposure to 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate(EHDPP)and TCIPP to approach health-based limit values for UK toddlers under a high-end exposure scenario.
