Bipyramidal Au microcrystallites have been synthesized by thermalizing a Au-organic complex in the presence of Ag（I） ions, the latter acting as a shape- directing agent. With a highly corrugated morphology leading to strain-induced non-face-centered cubic （non-FCC） Au phases, the non-FCC portion can be tuned by varying the Ag/Au ratio, as verified by diffraction measurements. For a Ag/Au ratio of 0.34, the non-FCC Au portion was as high as 85%. X-ray microdiffraction and electron diffraction measurements reveal that the non-FCC contribution comes primarily from bipyramids, while other microcrystallites, namely, tetrahexahedrons and hexa.rams, host non-FCC phases only at the edges and, to an even lesser extent, at the comers. When used as a catalyst for p-nitrophenol reduction, the non-FCC microcrystallites exhibit a significantly enhanced activity compared to FCC Au, which shows only negligible activity. These results are in accordance with trends in the values of two descriptors of reactivity calculated from first principles： The effective coordination number is found to decrease and the d-band center is found to increase in energy going from the FCC to the non-FCC phases of Au. Our findings contradict the general notion that Au is catalytically active only in nanodimensions and is otherwise inert; in this system, its activity arises from the non-FCC phases.

Estimation of SArA composition of crudes purely from density and viscosity using machine learning based models

Accurate characterization of crude oils by determining the composition of saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes(SArA) has always been a challenging task in the petroleum industry. However, conventional experimental methods for determination of SArA composition are labour intensive, timeconsuming and expensive. In the present study, artificial neural network(ANN) models were developed to predict the SArA composition from easily measurable parameters like density and viscosity. A dataset of 216 crude oil samples covering wide range of geographical locations was compiled from various literature sources. The ANN models with one hidden layer and six neurons are trained, tested and validated using MATLAB neural network toolbox. results obtained on analysis revealed reasonably good accuracy of prediction of SArA components except for aromatics. The performance of developed ANN models was compared with various correlations reported in literature and found to be better in terms of mean squared error and coefficient of determination. The developed models hence provide a costeffective and time-efficient alternative to the conventional SArA characterization techniques.

The dosimetric phosphors Li3PO4：M（M=Tb, Cu） were produced by modified solid-state *** structural and morphological characterization was ca.ried out through X-ray diffraction（XrD） and scanning electron microscope（SEM）. Additionally, the photoluminescence（PL）, thermoluminescence（TL） and optically stimulated luminescence（OSL） properties of powder Li3PO4 doped with Tb and Cu were studied. It is advocated that Li3PO4： Cu phosphor not only shows higher OSL sensitivity（25 times or more） but also gives faster decay in OSL signals than that of Li3PO4： Tb^（3＋） phosphor. The minimum detectable dose（MDD） of Li3PO4：M（M=Tb,Cu） phosphors is found to be 21.69 × 10^（-3） and 3.33 ×10^（-6） J·kg^（-1）,respectively. In OSL mode, phosphor shows linear dose response in the range of 0.02-20.00 J·kg^（-1）.In TL mode, sensitivity of Li3PO4： Cu phosphor is more than that of Li3PO4： Tb phosphor. The kinetics parameters such as activation energy and frequency factors were determined by peak shape method, and photoionization cross sections of prepared phosphor were calculated.

A striking characteristic of cancer ceLls is their remarkable phenotypic plasticity, which is the ability to switch states or phenotypes in response to environmental fluctuations. Phenotypic changes such as a partial or complete epithelial to mesenchymal transition （EMT） that play important roles in their survival and proliferation, and development of resistance to therapeutic treatments, are widely believed to arise due to somatic mutations in the genome. However, there is a growing concern that such a deterministic view is not entirely consistent with multiple lines of evidence, which indicate that stochasticity may also play an important role in driving phenotypic plasticity. Here, we discuss how stochasticity in protein interaction networks （PINs） may play a key role in determining phenotypic plasticity in prostate cancer （PCa）. Specifically, we point out that the key players driving transitions among different phenotypes （epithelial, mesenchymal, and hybrid epithelial/mesenchymal）, including ZEB1, SNAIl, OVOL1, and OVOL2, are intrinsically disordered proteins （IDPs） and discuss how plasticity at the molecular level may contribute to stochasticity in phenotypic switching by rewiring PINs. We conclude by suggesting that targeting iDPs implicated in EMT in PCa may be a new strategy to gain additional insights and develop novel treatments for this disease, which is the most common form of cancer in adult men.

A hydrometeorological study is made of the September, 1900 severe rainstorm which led up to the record rainfalls over Gangetic West Bengal with subsequent disastrous flooding in the Damodar and the Hooghly rivers. The spatial extent of the rainstorm for different durations has been examined by constructing the isohyetal patterns based on rainfall records of stations affected by the storm. Areal rainfalls for 1,2 and 3-day periods are calculated and the values have been compared with similar values from other major rainstorms of the region. The comparison revealed that the September, 1900 rainstorm was the heaviest for 1,2 and 3-day durations for all the areas. The storm contributed rainfalls of 33.0 cm, 52.0 cm and 62.0 cm over an area of 10,000 km2 in 1,2 and 3 days respectively. This rainstorm could, therefore, be considered as an important input in flood and design storm studies in the Gangetic West Bengal region. a.relationship between point to areal rainfall has also been developed with a view to evaluate areal PMP estimates.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy(HBOT)has been shown to be efficacious in treating various conditions,including perianal Crohn’s *** we present a case of a 59-year-old male with a history of ulcerative colitis,who underwent a total proctocolectomy and two-stage J-pouch *** later developed chronic antibiotic-refractory pouchitis with endoscopic features of *** the completion of HOBT-a total of 20 sessions of 100%oxygen at 2.5-3.0 atmospheres absolute for 60-90 minutes per session-a.repeat pouchoscopy showed marked improvement of endoscopic mucosal *** is known to increase tissue oxygenation,reduce tissue hypoxia,alter inflammatory pathways and promote tissue *** case demonstrated the therapeutic role of HBOT as well as the possible disease mechanism in chronic antibiotic-refractory pouchitis.

BACKGrOUND: ron receptor tyrosine kinase signaling in ma.rophages, including Kupffer cells and alveolar ma.rophages,suppresses endotoxin-induced proinflammatory cytokine/chemokine production. Further, we have also identified genes from ron replete and ron deplete livers that were differentially expressed during the progression of liver inflammation associated with acute liver failure in mice by microa.ray *** important genes and signaling pathways have been identified downstream of ron signaling during progression of inflammation by this approach, the precise role that ron receptor plays in regulating the transcriptional landscape in ma.rophages, and particular in isolated Kupffer cells, has still not been ***: Kupffer cells were isolated from wild-type(TK+/+)and ron tyrosine kinase deficient(TK-/-) mice. Ex vivo, the cells were treated with lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in the presence or absence of the ron ligand, hepatocyte growth factor-like protein(HGFL). Microa.ray and qrT-PCr analyses were utilized to identify alterations in gene expression between ***: Microa.ray analyses identified genes expressed differentially in TK+/+ and TK-/- Kupffer cells basally as well as after HGFL and LPS treatment. Interestingly, our studies identified Mefv, a gene that codes for the anti-inflammatory protein pyrin, as an HGFL-stimulated ron-dependent ***, lipocalin 2, a proinflammatory gene, which is induced by LPS, was significantly suppressed by HGFL *** results were validated by qrT-PCr studies on Kupffer cells treated with LPS and ***: The studies herein suggest a novel mechanism whereby HGFL-induced ron receptor activation promotes the expression of anti-inflammatory genes while inhibiting genes involved in inflammation with a net effect of diminished inflammation in ma.rophages.

We show that self-assembled vertically aligned gold nanorod （VA-GNrs） superlattices can serve as probes or substrates for ultra-high sensitive detection of various molecules. D-glucose and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene （TNT） have been chosen as model systems due to their very low raman cross-sections （5.6× 10-30 ***-1 for D-glucose and 4.9 × 10-31 ***-1 for TNT） to show that the VA-GNr superlattice assembly offers as low as yoctomole sensitivity. Our experiment on mixed samples of bovine serum albumin （BSA） and D-glucose solutions demonstrate sensitivity for the latter, and the possible extension to real samples. Self-assembled superlattices of VA-GNrs were achieved on a silicon wafer by depositing a drop of solvent containing the GNrs and subsequent solvent evaporation in ambient conditions. An additional advantage of the VA-GNr monolayers is their extremely high reproducible morphology accompanied by ultrahigh sensitivity which will be useful in many fields where a very small amount of analyte is available. Moreover the assembly can be reused a number of times after removing the a.ready present molecules. The method of obtaining VA-GNrs is simple, inexpensive and reproducible. With the help of simulations of monolayers and multilayers it has been shown that superlattices can achieve better sensitivity than monolaver assembly of VA-GNrs.
