Restoration of sea eagle population:A review

The population density of the white-tailed sea eagle Haliaeetus albicilla is very low in many countries. In last twenty years, the sea eagle population in South Bohemia was restored by strict protection subsidized by reintroduction, The active help consisted of feeding during winter and building of artificial nests. A new sea eagle breeding population arose in the Treboǎ basin area in the early 1980＇ s. Until this time sea eagles had used former breeding places only for wintering, probably coming from the Baltic. The South Bohemian sea eagle population is very unique： it exists in a densely man-occupied landscape, mainly in areas with very intensive carp breeding in artificial fishponds and was partly artficially （help to wintering birds and reintroduction of some individuals） restored. The experience from South Bohemia may have importance for populations of the sea eagle in other areas of its occurence, primarily in the continental conditions [ Current Zoology 55 （5）： 315 - 318, 2009].

Background and aim In-stent restenosis(ISR)belongs to an infrequent but potentially serious complication after carotid angioplasty and stenting in patients with severe carotid *** of these patients might be contraindicated to repeat percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with or without stenting(rePTA/S).The purpose of the study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of carotid endarterectomy with stent removal(CEASR)and rePTA/S in patients with carotid *** Consecutive patients with carotid ISR(≥80%)were randomly allocated to the CEASR or rePTA/S *** incidence of restenosis after intervention,stroke,transient ischaemic attack myocardial infarction and death 30 days and 1 year after intervention and restenosis 1 year after intervention between patients in CEASR and rePTA/S groups were statistically *** A total of 31 patients were included in the study;14 patients(9 males;mean age 66.3±6.6 years)were allocated to CEASR and 17 patients(10 males;mean age 68.8±5.6 years)to the rePTA/S *** implanted stent in carotid restenosis was successfully removed in all patients in the CEASR *** clinical vascular event was recorded periproceduraly,30 days and 1 year after intervention in both *** one patient in the CEASR group had asymptomatic occlusion of the intervened carotid artery within 30 days and one patient died in the rePTA/S group within 1 year after *** after intervention was significantly greater in the rePTA/S group(mean 20.9%)than in the CEASR group(mean 0%,p=0.04),but all stenoses were<50%.Incidence of 1-year restenosis that was≥70%did not differ between the rePTA/S and CEASR groups(4 vs 1 patient;p=0.233).Conclusion CEASR seems to be effective and save procedures for patients with carotid ISR and might be considered as a treatment option.

SPR Method and Its Utilisation for Low Alcohols Concentrations Determination

SPR sensor with matrix arrangement of nanostructured golden spots enables both the study of low concentrations of substances in solution and the acquisition of information on the spatial layout of the diagnosed medium in solution. The linear response of this sensor was experimentally specified for standard solutions of alcohols in a concentration range of 0.01 - 0.5 wt%. The influence of signal noise generated by carrier substance flowing through sensing dots has been removed by data processing. This approach enables to determine refractive index changes less than 3 × 10-6.

In this study, the performance of Sevcik’s algorithm that calculates the fractal dimension and permutation entropy as discriminants to detect calming and insight meditation in electroencephalo-graphic (EEG) signals was assessed. The proposed methods were applied to EEG recordings from meditators practicing insight meditation and calming meditation before as well as during both types of meditation. Analysis was conducted using statistical hypothesis testing to determine the validity of the proposed meditation-identifying techniques. For both types of meditation, there was a statistically significant reduction in the permutation entropy. This result can be explained by the increased EEG synchronization, which is repeatedly observed in the course of meditation. In contrast, the fractal dimension (FD) was significantly increased during calming meditation, but during insight meditation, no statistically significant change was detected. Increased FD during meditation can be interpreted as an increase in self-similarity of EEG signals during self-organisation of hierarchical structure oscillators in the brain. Our results indicate that fractal dimension and permutation entropy could be used as parameters to detect both types of meditation. The permutation entropy is advantageous compared with the fractal dimension because it does not require a stationary signal.

＜正＞The fibers play very important role particularly during curing process of concrete, as they suppress local cracking and warping in the composite. Very important fact follows from plenty of experimental studies: since fibers have different stiffness from concrete itself, interfacial mechanical properties have to be solved when requiring knowledge about the bearing capacity of the structure. From this it follows that the values of parameters for contact conditions are very important. Simultaneously, the chemical, numerical, and mechanical results have to be compared at different stages of curing process of concrete. This will be carried out for one of non-traditional materials of fibers, which appears to be very cheap and need recycling. We are going to treat modified waste PET bottle （polyethylene terepthalate） fibers in this paper, which should substitute local reinforcement in plasters of old buildings. Mechanical properties are calculated from convergence procedure involving numerical and chemical （mechanical） tests. Chemical properties of interfacial zones of concrete and fibers are studied by the Raman spectroscopy. Couple of exam- pies will demonstrate the ability of the approach above mentioned.
